“Okay, but not Great”
Reviewed 8 October 2006

This is my second trip to Amsterdam, and I'm now thoroughly convinced that all hotel rooms in this city are tiny and very overpriced. First the good part: Hotel Kap is in a nice residential street that is quiet and near the tram stop. The facade of the hotel is classic Amsterdam architechture and it is good to look at. Breakfast is decent, with an assortment of cold-cuts, cheese, eggs, bread, and cereals. Breakfast is included with the room and its served 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM. Now for the criticisms: we booked a double room and it was very small, and we paid a respectable price for it: over US$100 per night. My wife and I could hardly fit in there! There were two single beds whereas we would have preferred a single big bed, but it seems this is typical in many Dutch hotels. The staff at the front desk was not terribly friendly when we asked them some simple questions about museums and so on. I would stay at this hotel again but only if they were to lower the price to reflect the actual value.

Stayed at the hotel Kap over the weekend. I booked for 2 nights. I dropped my bag off in the room at midday to take in the sites of the city which are not too far away.
On returning that evening the room smelt of urine. The room does not have a toilet. The shower in the corner has obviously been well used over the years. The stench was unbearable!! There is noone at reception after hours. The reception is locked. The bed is a little fold away and this was crawling with fleas!! To make my night even worse, if that was possible, a healthy rat ran right along the open window sill, which is at head level.
This night was the worse night possible, I have never felt so dirty in all my life. I stood downstairs ibn the road for an hour and ventured up again.
I decided not to stay the other nighht, but rather to sleep at the airport, and forego another day in Amsterdam.
Hotel Kap, or room 15, that I saw should be condemned! It is not a hotel, but a doss house.

Amsterdam is a beautifull city to explore, offering wide variaties of cultural events (especially in this Rembrandt year) and a wide range of sites to visit for all interests.

We at the hotel Kap (a 2 star hotel going for the third star) are, as most locals, sorry that some visitors only recognise Amsterdam as a city of coffeeshops, and thus, have a blurred vision of what they are experiencing.

I stayed here for two nights in early May in a triple room and paid 124 EUR per night. The room had 3 single beds with the third bed being a Murphy bed (folds into the wall). The size of the room was quite generous but the bathroom was tiny and had a slightly unpleasant smell. The furnishings in the room did not feel old at all and was very clean.

The breakfast provided by the hotel was pretty good. In addition to cereal, bread, and egg, there were meat and cheese. The entire breakfast area was also very clean.

Like other reviewers mentioned, the stairs here are very steep so if you have difficulties with mobility, those stairs will be difficult to climb. The hotel is located in a very quiet residential area. The tram is only a 3 minute walk away. It's about a 10 minute walk to Rijksmuseum and about 30 minutes to the city center. The tram can get you to the city center in less than 10 minutes.

Old hotel.Room vas big but furniture is old.If you want to call or somebody call to you,you have to go downstairs.Everything looked like 20 years old, durty carpet.Brakfast was ok.
The second night they even didn't bother to make the beds
It is ok,for the price they charge in Amsterdam, but I'll not recommend it for a long stay.
Not far from center.

A splendid little hotel. It's well-located in a completely quiet street and, once you've negotiated the traditionally steep Dutch stairs, you'll find large and well-appointed double rooms (the single room I saw looked less inviting). The coolest about the place is the breakfast room, which is much classier than you'd expect in a hotel of this kind, and boasts a great selection of food. The owner was a nice chap, too. If you're looking for an inexpensive hotel and nothing terribly fancy, I'd go for Hotel Kap.

Hotel Kap is your basic, budget hotel. Yes, there are a lot of narrow, windy stairs. If you can't handle it, go to a chain hotel. It was clean and inexpensive. The manager was nice. Breakfast is nothing wonderful but it's something to get into your stomach before you start your day.
The only reason I wouldn't stay there again is that I would prefer something more central like Dam square. Of course that costs more money.

I was very happy with my stay here. As a single woman traveling alone, I wanted a safe, yet cheap, place to stay. Hotel Kap was clean, quiet, has a super-cute garden area (okay the stairs are a little steep;), great breakfast and all for a pretty decent price. The location is within walking distance to all the museums also. I would definitely stay there again.
