I've come to Amsterdam every year since 2000 & have never stayed anywhere else! Ken & Vlad are the best hosts you could ask for! The Joordan location is perfect, it's near everything you could want! Can't wait for my 2010 visit!

After my recent stay in Sept., (I'd been here four years ago, but neglected to post a review at that time on what a gem I'd found),....I realized I HAD to praise the exceptionally friendly and helpful hosts, Vlad and Ken,.....the beautifully appointed and spotless room, delightful view, delicious breakfast (meeting other fascinating travellers),, and wonderful convenient location. Walk to the train station, and to many nearby sights, shops and attractions;... with
museums and theatres only 15 or 20 minutes away on the bus. Can't wait till my next visit.

We stayed here fore 3 nights and were really happy to find we had been upgraded to the suite from the B&B.

The room was beautiful and large and in a fantastic location, the hosts were great and the breakfast varied and filling but wasn't served until 9am so that would be a problem if you wanted an early start to the day.

The main problem was that the house is really creaky and therefore noisy. We had a group of guys staying in the room above us and we woke up each night when they came home at 5am as the floorboards creaked loudly so you hear every step someone makes. Thank goodness we had earplugs or we wouldn't have got any sleep! I guess that's the problem with a B&B - it's like a house so you hear everyone come and go.

The stairs are really steep (typically Dutch) so this isn't a great place to stay if you have mobility difficulties or have a really heavy bag! (like we did) as you have to lug it up 2 flights of almost vertical stairs.

We opened the window in the bedroom a crack for some fresh air at night and got bitten alive by mosquitoes as there is no flyscreen. The other criticism is that there is no lock on the room door so you have to leave your room unlocked and simply trust that the other guests won't go rummaging through your room. Other B&B's we've stayed in have always had locks on the doors so it was a suprise to find these didn't and it meant we were paranoid about our belongings.

The towels were only changed onceWe stayed here fore 2 nights and were really happy to find we had been upgraded to the suite.

In 3 days our towels and bed were changed and made up only once (you have to ask for fresh towels if you want them.) Free wifi was a good bonus.

Overall I loved the location, the hosts and the food but there were quite a few negative points. Not the best B&B I've stayed in.

My wife & I stayed here for 2nights. Everything was great from start to finish. Vlad & Ken helped with directions from the airport to the hotel & offered suggestions. We took the train (3.80euro) & its only a 10min walk.. but we got a bit lost!

The room was very nice, we stayed in the "heron" house, very nice decor in the room, great big antique bath & a really comfortable bed..

Breakfast was fun beacause you get to chat to other travelers at the kitchen table & there’s a good range of food on offer.

Vlad was very helpful with recommendations for dinner & sight seeing. We would recommend "seasons". Its a nice small restaurant that’s two/three doors down from the B&B..

Overall, great B&B... if your looking for a "hotel", maybe look elsewhere but if you are looking for a friendly & comfortable B&B.. This is the place for you :)

We spent 2 nights at Maes in early October. The location is perfect for Amsterdam. It's located just outside the center of town (10 minute walk to Dam Square), but across a canal in a quieter residential neighbourhood with loads of great restaurants and shopping just steps away. It's also about a 10 minute walk to Central Station and about 5 minutes to the Anne Frank house. Our room was quite charming with wooden beamed ceilings and a seperate bathroom with tub & shower. Breakfast was excellent and Ken was very helpful and gave us some great tips on local restaurants. On top of all that, it was an excellent value at 105 euros including breakfast (in our opinion anyway).

This review is actually from a year ago, but this was such a nice affordable bed and breakfast, I felt compelled to write a review that might help travelers choose a great place to stay for their trip to amsterdam. The rooms were spacious, modern, and nicely decorated. The beds were very comfortable and large. Something to note, in the room I stayed in, there was no door to the bathroom...only a little curtain type thing. Not a big deal for me as I was with my husband...but it might make some people uncomfortable. Our friends stayed in the room in the attic and loved it...as it was spacious and the beds were set up so that you have the feeling of separation and privacy. There are no elevators, but it really is not a big deal. I loved the whole lay out of this establishment and it was a little more authentic then staying in a hotel. The owner was very helpful in recommending great cafes. It also had a really nice little outside space where you can sit and relax. Breakfasts were wonderful...I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Aloha from Hawaii. My husband and stayed at Maes (actually their other property Heren two doors down) for two nights during our recent vacation and we want to echo the other glowing reviews for this terrific B & B. Ken and Vlad are terrific host--gracious, accommodating, and fun to talk with. They were extremely helpful from the start of our e-mail communication through the end of our stay, as were their staff, offering great tips on things to do and see and how best to get around. Their restaurant recommendations were terrific--we especially enjoyed Cous Cousine. Our room was very comfortable, and the bathroom was well-equipped. Breakfasts were tasty and abundant. The location couldn't be better--a side street of off Herengraht--and was easy walking distance to many of the main sites, including the Anne Frank house. It's also easy to hop on a tram or canal boat if you don't want to take a bit longer walk to some of the museums. We had a wonderful stay and only wish we'd could have been there longer. If we ever get the chance to return, we'll definitely stay with Ken and Vlad again.
