“Warm and friendly !”
Reviewed 10 May 2007

We stayed at Maes last year and I've always meant to write a quick review because it was so nice.

We stayed here twice while visiting Europe for 6 weeks last year. We stayed here in the first and last week of our holiday as we were flying in and out of Amsterdam. We were glad to be back here in the last week as its such a nice and friendly place - it felt like a home away from home. It was in fact much nicer than anywhere else we stayed in Europe. Ken and Vlad go out of their way for you and deserve all the positive reviews they get. We would definately stay here again.

My husband and I stayed in the Penthouse. Wow - What a beautiful apartment and the owners are 2 of the nicest hosts we could ever hope to encounter. Plus Vlad makes the best mini-pancakes in all of Amsterdam. A wonderful value and terrific location. We hope to see you soon.

A smart, comfortable B&B very well situated in the heart of Amsterdam. We received a very friendly welcome from Vlad.
Our room was spacious and clean, and the breakfast was great.
We really liked the open kitchen policy, enabling us to use the facilities during the rest of the day.

We stayed in one of Ken and Vlad's apartments - it was perfect! Ken and Vlad were so very nice. On our walk from the B&B to the apartment, Ken pointed out all of the great restaurants and places we needed to check out. I wouldn't stay anywhere else, and will recommend to everyone.

What a warm welcome from Vlad - and lots of good advice, even though we had already been in Amsterdam a couple of days. We got let down with another place, and Vlad was so charming and helpful, and made our stay so good with a lovely gesture for my partner's birthday. The room was really great at the top of the house, and a large room with all mod cons. It was very cosy and inviting and even the hard climb up the stairs (common to Amsterdam) was worth it. Everything was spotlessly clean, and done out in nice style - it was very good value for money. The seperate (shared) kitchen downstairs was a great bonus to be able to have a hot drink when you liked, and also to sit out on the terrace was great for my partner who smoked (but the evening was made more pleasant by being able to sit outside). The location was just perfect - in the heart of everthing but not in a noisy street at all - one with a few restaurants too! The end of our stay was made so much better by being here, and it was such good value for money too, we'll definitely recommend this place for others. The breakfast set us up for the whole day, and Jason was a real help and tended to our every need. Thankyou.

  • Liked — the outside terrace and kitchen to help ourselves
  • Disliked — the stairs (everyhwere in Amsterdam) but all else was perfect

We reserved Maes B&B after reading the good reviews on TripAdvisor.com and it fully lived up to our expectations. The B&B is in a very central and convenient location - close to shopping, restaurants, Anne Frank House, etc. The hosts Ken & Vlad were very helpful in providing us with great suggestions for excursions, shopping, dining, etc. The breakfast was great and it was at a very civil time (9-11am). There was no way to lock the rooms from the outside (there was a latch from inside) but it wasn't a problem. We did had to go up two very steep flight of steps to get to our room. This might have a been a problem hauling the luggage but the hosts gave us a hand which we highly appreciated.

I stayed for more than a week in a terrific apartment with a double bedroom, a nice large bathroom and a cosy living room with kitchen, a small beautiful table, a huge and comfortable sofa and all the supplies that should be present in a house. I really enjoyed the stay
in this terrific little house, and the landlords were extremely friendly, like a complete new family. I can't imagine to come back in Amsterdam and not staying again in this apartment, that in the journey to the airport I really wished it was my home. Extraordinary!!
