“Perfect location, not a good hotel, good customer service”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

This hotel is walking distance to absolutely everything: Train station, Bar/Restaurant, Red light district, Anne Frank House, Dam Square ect.
The Hotel itself was mediocre. The rooms are small (most hotel in Europe are) but my BF is 6.1ft tall and he was unable to really fit in the bathroom. I requested a private bathroom (private toilet and shower) in our room and it cost $416US dollars for 3 nights with free Wi-Fi. It’s pricy for what you get at this hotel but the privet bathroom was a must have on my list!
My room was on the 3rd floor with 1 window facing the ally. It had 3 single beds and no Air Conditioner/ fan. Since the weather was cool, we slept with the window open and the temperature in the room was fine but at night, you can hear people having a conversation as if they were right next to the window.
I did not see rats nor bed bugs! They cleaned our room every day at 11am and gave us clean towels and made the bed (all 3 of them). Now the big down fall for me were the killer narrow stairs. I had a 50lb luggage and it is completely dangerous to go up and down the stairs. They are completely narrow!
The next time I visit Amsterdam, I would stay in Jordaan. It is also walking distance to everything even from this hotel, its just not in the center.
I would recommend this place it you’re just going for a couple of days and if it were a reasonable price. I would completely recommend to request a private bathroom when you book the room!
Place to check out (walking Distance): St. James’s Gate Irish Pub, Moulin Rouge (35euro for entrance and 3 drinks), Come back (restaurant), Roem Eetcafe (Bar)

We went as a group of 4, stayed in 2 seperate rooms, and i really can't fault the place. staff are really friendly and helpful, everything seemed really organised. the rooms are quite small but clean and tidy. there were no rats! and no smell! after reading these reviews we were dreading it but was nicely surprised and would def stay there again. the only problem was the amount of stairs, they were quite steep too but other than that there is nothing wrong with this hotel and the reviews before i find hard to believe as we experienced the complete opposite. Very central location too. if you're a young group looking for a good location in Amsterdam and plan on only sleeping/getting ready/you know, in the hotel, this is the place to go! cheap and cheerful :)

Room Tip: most of the rooms are shared bathrooms, but we got a double room which had an en suite so try and ma...

I stayed here when I went to the dam and it was horrible the rooms were dirty and smelly the view you got was a brick wall off next door and when night time came it was like a knocking shop the couple up stairs making all kinds of noisies as you can imagine. I was slightly embarrassed the following day just in case they thought it was me lol. I could not wait to get out of here not worth the money you pay

The location of this hotel is its best aspect. It's very close to stores and of course the central train station. It's an old building, therefore worn down and has narrow, steep staircases, corridors and cramped rooms. Our room had 3 bunk beds and a surprisingly nice looking shower/bathroom. It was actually better and cleaner looking than the room itself. They're scary looking electrical sockets sticking out from walls, useless t.v, a telephone, a chair, a locker cabinet [like those at leisure centers] and a bedside table. Bunk beds also have no stairs to climb up... we had to use the bedside table to clamber up and down. Bring your own hairdryer, theirs has little to no wind blowing. We had dirty towels with someones hair still attached, but were given clean ones when we told staff.

Staff were friendly but also a little rude. The manager at one point helped himself into our room to supposedly check the radiator. But left after seeing us in the room and said he would come back the next day when we were out of the room. Luckily we weren't changing clothes! In our opinion, he was actually wanting to check the two rat traps near the radiators. Thankfully we didn't see any rats during our stay.

If you're looking for good nights sleep, this is not the place. It can get quite humid, therefore needing to open the windows. But you can hear noise from the next room and particularly outside at night. We had roadworks working until around 1-2am and people generally making a lot of noise on the streets, followed by refuse collection, trams and fumes from smokers outside. More like a hostel than hotel overall.

Room Tip: Be aware of near naked people walking in the tight corridors. Maybe opt for rooms not facing the mai...

This hotel is absolutely dreadful. The hotel cost €350 for 3 people in 1 room for 2 nights and the disgusting condition of the room just did not warrant such a high price tag. The hotel was completely unfit for purpose and the room was dirty, mouldy and had an offensive smell of human faeces and raw sewage that would not go away. The hotel staff moved us to another room the first night but told us that we had to return to the filthy original room for the second night. It was the most disgusting place that I have ever stayed at in my life.

I stayed 2 night in this hotel and I may say the staff is well and the place is clean but bedrooms are too small, toilets and bathrooms are in the outside of the bedroom :-( and the price is very expensive for the service

Hotel Continental is about a 2 minute walk from the central train station which is great. You can quickly get to the bars, restaurants, night clubs, red light district, etc with a short walk in any direction. The hotel rooms are small, but tidy. The bathrooms are micro, and for someone over 6ft tall aren't very user-friendly. A 1 night stay for a 2 bed dorm room was over 80Euro.. It's not great but do able. The room had a nice big window, but zero ventilation or fan so our room was HOT until about midnight, If I came back to Amsterdam, I would shop around for a better place for that price...
