Stayokay Hostel Amsterdam Vondelpark

The front desk staff was very friendly. They could have booked different attractions for us, if we asked. I noticed they had rebate coupons in the lobby (worth having a look at). WIFI was available in the lobby. A VERY cheap happy hour bar was conveniently located by the lobby (I got a wine glass and drinks for 1,50 Euros each). We were very lucky to get a room for 6, as there was six of us traveling together. The rooms were OK (clean linen, but I wouldn't have walked around bare foot kind of hostel). Nothing impressive, but simply the basics... As a matter of fact, it was VERY hot in the rooms. We tried keeping our room door opened to get a draft of fresh air, but the cleaning lady kept asking us to close it for no apparent reason (although we were sleeping and not making any noise). I recommend bringing a fan if at all possible...hahaha. Its main clientele are young adults and students backpacking Europe. The free breakfast was an amazing buffet (cereal, bread, meat, bananas, eggs...name it)! This (along with the cheap bar) was probably the best part about this place. The hostel is right by Vondelpark (gorgeous during the day) and walking distance to tramway service. Although it is not a scary corner, I do not recommend to walk back to the hostel alone (ladies) at night, as I was a little scared. Decent place. :)

Room Tip: Ask if they have a room that fits the exact number of guests in your group.

There is a bar downstairs that serves cheap drinks and reasonable food where we found the service fantastic and it was always busy with friendly people.
We hired bikes for 11 euro for 24 hours and rode them around Amsterdams biggest park, just next door. Fantastic view once it started snowing from our room window.
It was so easy to get off the train into Amsterdam and get to the hostel and it is easy walking distance to shopping, bars, ATMs and the tram stop.
The rooms are large and spread out and the beds are very comfy. We had a basin, toilet and shower all separate in a 4 bed shared dorm which was great!!! Worth the money for that alone.
There is free breakfast every day (which we never got up to try) and the hostel offers walking tours and pub crawls and the like.
Very nice and bright and friendly and clean, no complaints except it would have made life a lot cheaper and easier if they allowed eating in the rooms.

I booked long in advance and I had a good price. Still, keep in mind that many other expenses might occur. I stored my luggage using their lockers and I paid two eur. /day.

Internet is a major drawback. They have wireless but mostly isn't working. You can use their desktop computers but it is three eur./hour.

Very well located; very close to Leidseplein where many clubs and bars are located.

Room Tip: If you plan on getting a room in this hostel, remember to bring your own padlock and if don't yo...

When i booked this place i wanted to stay somewhere away from the red light district so i could sleep if i wasnt going out. It was further away than the website said, was about a 20-30 minutes walk away from the city center and red light district. Definitely still walkable but trams better. Hostel was ok, reception are to chill out was huge, bar was ok, not a bad happy hour, atmosphere wasnt great though, huge hostel so heaps of people staying there but think everyone must have gone to drink at another bar in amsterdam. Rooms were all good nice and big, clean hostel. Not bad value, only complaint it was quite far out

Amazingly located, with public transportation at 5 min walk. Very clean, with cosy common spaces. Breakfast is very good and has a pretty decent variety. Nice bar with late meals and snacks (late in Amsterdam is after 9 p.m.) and also good beers, with fair prices given the Amsterdam context. Staff is very nice. Lots of info on attractions and transportation available at the reception. Towels are available for 4,5€, but as I took my own, I can't say much more about it. You have to lay your sheets on the bed yourself (sitting on bed awaiting your arrival) and you might get some noisy neighbours, but hey, it's an hostel... I had a private room with a bunk bed, toilet and bathroom for 20€ more. Although the room is small, it's enough if you don't plan to stay in it all the time. There's a table, 2 chairs and 2 lockers (padlocks available for 1€ at the reception). Would definitely recommend it.

We were taking a group of young rugby players on tour to Amsterdam, we wanted something fairly cheap to keep the cost down for the boys so we booked Stayokay.
we were obviously worried as to what we would get for our money: but we should not have worried at all. The place was very clean, the rooms were clean and the beds comfortable.
The staff could not do enough to make your stay a happy one and the breakfast was better than expected.
I would go again and would recommend this type of hostel to anyone

Room Tip: they have rooms for 2-4-6 & 8 people to share thus keeping the cost to a minimium
