“My 2nd stay at this hotel was as good as the first!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2011

I went back to Amsterdam and knew the only place I wanted to stay was at the Asterisk.

Once again I had a very nice stay. Yes the rooms are tiny, but this is Amsterdam! The shared bathroom/shower was always clean and rarely occupied.

The owners were EXTREMELY awesome, and on three separate occasions they went WAY out of their way to make sure our stay there was the best it could be. They are very good people.

Breakfast in their very nice dining room was quite a treat, with lots of options of high quality foods. The only negative was at night the doors closing on their own were pretty loud. The steps are very steep in the aux building, but I lugged my heavy suitcases up without problem.

One of the things that we consider is the service. This Hotel has great service oriented staff. The girl on the receptionist was patient enough to show us two rooms so we can decide which one to take. And all other receptionist are as great.

Now the rooms - it's spacious but it's old. As usual, it has carpets on it. We chose the rooms on the ground floor on the other building because the lift doesn't work enough. Bathroom needs a lot of renovation.

But the location is great. We can walk around amsterdam. Heineken museum is nearby, as well as the Van Gogh museum.

Pls. renovate your rooms.

we booked a basic room -it was very old fashioned, hideous faded hippy duvet, not very clean . The stairs were shockingly steep, dont stay here if your clumsy.

However, the staff were really great and downstairs was decorated well. breakfast was continental, lots of bread and cheese, very lovely.

great location- pancake restraurant right next to it and you can catch boat trips from the end of the street. I would advise this to save walking around looking for stops.

The Asterisk hotel is well located a little east of the Rijksmuseum and within easy walking distance of plenty of restaurants and coffee shops, and near a tram stop. The staff are very freindly and helpful, room small but totally clean, with a big window that opens securely and a lovely view onto a tree lined courtyard, beds very comfortable. Shared bath immaculately clean, lots of hot water. Breakfast had a good choice of food and was good quality. No complaints, an excellent budget hotel, would definitely book here again.

Very good budget hotel, haven't got a clue what other travellers are talking about in their less positive descriptions. Room was good size for solo traveller and very clean. Bit annoying to have to traipse downstairs for the loo/shower but if that meant the room was cheaper then fine with me. Lovely sitting room for breakfats and very helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again.

Spend two nights in Amsterdam on the way back from overseas to US. This was one of the few affordable hotels in the city. The staff was helpful, the rooms very clean and nice, breakfast was good in a pleasant room. Walking distance to the major museums, canals. I recommend asking for building with a lift as the walk up is a charming narrow winding staircase(s).

Very small 'double' room with the bed jammed into a corner. Shared bathroom, creaky and noisy wooden floors & stairwell (very steep too - be careful not to break your neck).
There is an elevator, but room for two only, or one with luggage and it does not always work.
The room has no beer fridge so if you want a drink, room temperature is your only option.
Location is a stones throw from the Heineken Brewery, which is a fun 'experience'. Otherwise, a long walk or ten minute tram ride into the restaurant and red light district.
