Hotel Crystal has an ideal location and a quiet road but everything is so dated and almost doesn't work well. For a whole day and night our shared toilet had no paper, so we had to go upstairs, the carpets are very badly stained and are ripping on the stairs, our wardrobe was almost falling on top of us had it not been propped up by a piece of wood our window didnt stay open unless we had another piece of wood and the light above our sink didn't work.
Also the breakfast was very poor.
But the bed was comfortable and there was always hot water to shower with and the staff were helpful, with excellent free maps and tour guides. This hotel just needs a bit of love and a revamp to make the stay feel special and enjoyable not a "well, we're only sleeping here" sort of stay.

Honestly one of the worst place i have ever stayed in... Unprofesional staff, dirty rooms (mold and dust visible everywhere). We spent there two nights in summertime and next time i know we ll find other place to stay at. The only asset of this hotel is without any doubts its position. Location is just perfect. But there are similar hotels in this area where you pay same and get more. To avoid.

Avoid!
Only stay here if you enjoy the fishermen smells
Paid 110euros a night for a room without a toilet and pipes that are sounding like someone is drilling next door
When I asked to be refunded so the second night I got the I only work here and could not do anything as I should have read the small print and that I should not worry as I was sharing the floor only with one other person

Just your average, cheap basic hotel but with a great location (but within Amsterdam any hotel would be a great location as everything is within walking distance) and I WOULD stay again. However, there is a Lidl literally around the corner from the hotel so this was great for drinks etc and there are tram stops extremely close (we got the tram from the airport with ease: around 7 euros for 24hr ticket, or 2.40 for 1 hr (this is just one use)) We arrived at 9ish and were able to leave are bags downstairs before check-in. Same when we checked out, we left our bags in the dining area with no trouble. There are helpful cards next to the reception desk about places to go/things to do, and most of these include a discount/free gift if you take them with you to the place. There is also a communal fridge for you to use, but for us it was down so many stairs that we only used it once.

We had a quad room which is on the 4th floor. There is no lift, and the stairs are EXTREMELY steep. If you are disabled or have difficulties climbing stairs DO NOT stay here! Or people with children should really consider the dangers of this. One family had to carry each child one by one up due to the danger. However, I don't think this is a unique quality to this hotel as many of the bars also had very steep stairs. The staff did not help with our bags at all, and therefore carrying really heavy bags up four flights of stairs was very difficult, we were literally just left to it. Overall the staff are quite unfriendly, unhelpful and uninterested in guests.

NONE of the quad rooms have balconies, don't be fooled by the website info, I don't think staff quite understood what we meant by balcony. We requested and were told we could have a room with a balcony, however it was just a window with a wide window ledge which you could sit on (quite dangerous). There was another window too but this didn't open. We asked about the balcony, and they said the only other quad room had it (which they had agreed to give us), and so we asked if we could move to this room. We had to wait til the next day, and were told we would have to check out of our room at 10, and take our bags ALL THE WAY DOWNSTAIRS!! Bare in mind the other room was literally next door, RIDICULOUS! We were told to do this because both rooms had to be simultaneously cleaned, and couldn't change til 2pm. However, we discovered it had been cleaned a lot earlier, and therefore could have just moved straight to that room. Whether it was communication problems or extremely unhelpful staff with absolutely no common sense I don't know. After all this, the room DID NOT HAVE A BALCONY! But two working windows, so it was better. And cooler as it faced the courtyard instead of the street.

Each room had 4 single (comfortable) beds, the sheets were slightly stained but not the worst i've seen. We had no toilet paper on arrival so had to ask, nor any soap. There are also signs saying a charge will be applied if found smoking or if found with the windows open after 10pm but no staff mentioned this to us. The rooms are a decent size, and are not uncomfortable to be in.

The provided breakfast is VERY minimal, limited number of boiled eggs, ham, limited bread to make your own toast, butter, jam, orange and a free coffee machine (it's only free at breakfast time). This 'restaurant' area is also quite small, it's not the best.

AMSTERDAM TIP: MAKE SURE YOU BOOK ANNE FRANK ONLINE. THE QUEUE WAS CRAZY!!

Stay away. Rooms are tiny, dirty, hot in summer and (we've been told) often without warm water in winter. Absentee manager leaves the staff to deal with his neglect of the building and his indifference to guests' questions and requests. One staff member told us he was embarrassed to work there due to all the things that tend to go wrong. We showed up on a hot summer day and were given a tiny stifling room on the fourth floor whose window opened only a few inches. We asked repeatedly for a fan and were promised one before the evening by the manager, only to return from dinner to find a small plastic SPACE HEATER that screeched when turned on. Breakfast was cheap and disappointing. Go elsewhere.

I stayed at this hotel for a weekend break with a group of girlfriends. Although I must admit on first impressions I wasn't that impressed and probably wouldn't have booked it myself! I was really surprised, pleasantly I must add. I slept better than I have done in a long time, the beds were very clean and really comfortable, rooms were basic but clean and adequate . The staff were all very friendly and really helpful. Breakfast was basic but ok. The only fault I had with this hotel is that the stairs were very steep ( very common in Amsterdam as I found out in almost every bar I went into) and that the carpets were quite worn and stained! I would definitely return to the hotel Crystal as it was a short walk from most bars and restaurants A very enjoyable weekend.

Arrived in what seemed a very pleasant street the outside of hotel looked promising. Unfortunately things went downhill as we checked in. Irrespective of the access to the room (very steep stairs which were not an issue) the carpets in places were threadbare, damaged and stained. The room was just servicable, not really clean and everything in it was broken, in bad repair or required attention. Luckily bedding clean etc. Non ensuite room (which we knew on booking) but the toilet was that small it was unbelievable your knees were tight against wall in front and not particularly clean and the shower we did not even venture into..... Need we say more.......
