This hostel is situated very central to Amsterdam Dam Square and about 10 minute walk from Central Station. Trams stop right outside the hostel to venture around Amsterdam.

One member of staff at a time is at the reception area where they have a pool table and Cold Drinks/Snacks on display.

Rooms are basic. Two bunk beds, telly vision and kettle. Toilet is located on the landing area outside of the room. Room is at a good temperature so you are not likely to get cold at this hostel.

Kitchen is shared and has the kitchen type appliances; kettle, cooker, microwave, sink and cupboard storage.

Price was reasonable also.

My friend and I stayed in a mixed 6dorm with privite bathroom. It's cheap and that's about it. We were satisfied with it, but then we were last in and first out everyday.
There are no ladders up to the top bunks which was annoying (especially when I got trodden on by a very apologetic Chinese girl). The kitchen area was pretty basic. No real space to put any food, but then there's no cooker. Microwave and kettle only. There is a fridge but it was completley full of stuff belonging to the cafe.
There's no common room, but we were fine sitting in the cafe seating in or outside. There was a TV playing news. There's also a desktop and a laptop permanently setup for guests to use for free (which was handy).
It was clean, the staff were nice (speaking excellent English and a few other languages too)
A lot of reviews complain about the steep stairs- that's Amsterdam. Due to housing shortage back in the day most Dutch buildings are narrow.
The only real drawback was there not being lockers to put our belongings in. The reception desk are happy to take things like phone money passport etc, Putting them in a plastic wallet with your name and room number on in their safe. Baggage wise, there's a locked luggage room.

All in all cheap and cheerful. Great 10mins walk to Dam (centre), 15-20mins to the Redlight district/Train station and only 5 stops on the tram to Leidseplein (where the night life is).

We arrived in Amsterdam to find out our Accomodation in an apartment had fallen through as the key holder couldn't be found so to be able to stay in the Mevlana was a god send for the 5 of us who otherwise would have been bedless.

They were able to offer a 4 bed dorm and offered another mattress to make it a 5 bed. A tight squeeze admittedly but when it's that or the streets I appreciate their concern at trying to make it work for us.

The beds were comfy & for the purpose of a bed or the weekend it worked. If people want a room they can hang out it I wouldn't advise staying here but on a quick weekender it was just what we needed.

The location was awesome. 2 mon walk to Dam square. Awesome corner cafe opposite with good breakfasts. Free wifi is hostel or the cafe which was brilliant.

Metro line right outside for further exploration, bike rental place just up the road. Thank you to the hotel staff for everything they did for us.

Me and 4 of my friends decided that we wanted to go on a short break to Amsterdam, and this was by far the cheapest place that we could find to stay. After reading all of the bad reviews it is fair to say that we were a little worried, but we were pleasantly surprised when we got there. The rooms were immaculate, and although we only stayed for 3 nights after the second night our bedding was changed which was great. The toilet smelt a little, but this wasn't due to cleanliness, probably just a plumbing problem. The beds were comfy. Upon arrival we were asked to give a 20 euro deposit for the key (in case we lost it) but we got this back when we checked out. We had taken our own towels, but got provided with 5 clean towels when we got there, (something that we wish we would have known before, as we had only taken hand luggage.)
There was a place to store bags downstairs before check in and after check out so this was great for us as it meant that we got full days in Amsterdam without having to lug our bags around. Staff are really friendly and helpful and can speak good English. There is a little cafe sort of thing downstairs that sells drinks and cakes and things, but there's an Albert Heijn supermarket just down the road which we found to be a lot cheaper.
The kitchen wasn't really much, just a microwave, kettle, fridge and sink. But if like us you're just on a mini break chances are you'll just be eating chips and things out anyway.
There was posters that said "No food or drink in rooms" presumably to prevent mess and mice, but we took food up into our room and there was no interrogation or anything. Similarly the hotel is "non-smoking," but from the smells coming from rooms this wasn't really upheld either.
The location was fantastic, about a 2 minute walk from Dam square, but like another reviewer put we struggled to find the hostel simply because we followed directions from google maps, which takes you to one of the main streets in the red light district. Luckily we had a small map of Amsterdam with us and it didn't take long after our mistakes to find the right address.
The stairs are quite steep, but this is typical of Amsterdam buildings, we were in a private en suite 6 bed room, and if you book this room beware that it's 80 odd steps to the room! Kept us fit anyway. Also if you are tall the top room has quite low beams. I am only 5'5 and I banged my head a good few times!
Personally I would reccomend booking one of the private rooms if you are travelling in a group, we kept ourselves to ourselves and didn't really see anyone from the other rooms in the hostel.
All in all this is a great place to stay in a group for a short city break, and we didn't have any complaints for the price that we paid to stay in the centre of a city!

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs don't book into the 6 bed en suite!

Me and 5 Friends stayed here over the weekend, and it was ok. The staff were very good, friendly and helpful. The actual room we had was at the very top of the building, which was round 3/4 flights of stairs and then a loft ladder to the top! as you can imagine after a few drinks this was a hell of a challenge. To our great disappointment when we got up there were no towels, so we had to do the very painful and tiring journey up and down.

All in all, there are many low quality hotels / hostels in Amsterdam and we have stayed in many, I would put it at a par with the others. My only criticisms are that there was a lot of mould in the bathroom. I also dont think we got very good value for money, the loft room for 6 of us worked out at £42 per head, which I feel is too expensive, £30 would have been more like it.

Room Tip: If your not an olympic athlete, dont stay at the top of the hotel!

After having read the reviews I was obviously worried! But to my surprise the hostel was great! Easy to find, 5-10 min walk from the train station. Lovely helpful staff. Stayed in room 103 on the first floor ( thank god the stairs are steep! But to be expected in this type of building!) 4 bed private room. Lovely and clean - especially the bathroom! Beds were comfortable too. No sign of any mice but then we took notice of the signs and didn't take food into out room. Great location for access to Dam square/ red light district and other central locations. Always felt safe. Thank you for a good stay!
My rating of excellent is in relation to the price paid and general expectations. It's a hostel. Don't expect the world but good value base for seeing the city!
