“Gem of a Hotel”
Reviewed 2 June 2012

I had a great stay at the Parkview Hotel (May 2012). The hotel is located in a really nice neighborhood just off the Vondelpark. The park is a real treat - great for walks and people watching. The Hotel is newly renovated and very tasteful. Breakfast in the morning is perfect and very tasty. Fair warning - the park does attract a young - late crowd, so it can be a little loud until late in the evening. Bring Ear Plugs!! The hotel is very nice and close to all the attractions, most in walking distance. Internet service was great and very reliable.

Room Tip: 302 worked well for me!

The owners of this hotel have invested a lot to refurbish and deserve congratulations. Some other reviews on this site are long out of date. The hotel is as good as new, in a great location, next door to Vondel Park and only a few minutes walk from the Van Gogh Museum, Modern Art Gallery (reopening later this year) and Rijskmuseum, as well as canal trips, etc. Quiet, elegant area with several very good restaurants nearby.

Disregard all previous negative reviews, we were happily surprised... the family owners have taken matters back in own hands and the results are remarkable. This is a brand new hotel and everything is brand new. It is very clean and the staff is very helpful. The location is very quiet, it is near the vondelpark what we like very much. They are open since a month now. We would very much recommend this hotel.

The Golden Regal.....Been there many many times. Not first class by any means but clean & very well situated on Vondel Park, walking distance to downtown without being in center town. Get room #21 (for 2-3) or #31 for single. Location location location.

My partner basically took a fright at the room and was unable to stay the night. It was just too dirty and smelled of smoke really badly. There were suspicious stains on ALL of the blankets. Horrible, disgusting place. We turned tail and left, sacraficing our 85 euros in the process, but there was no way on this earth we could tolerate the conditions there, not even for one night.

this hotel was a challenge to discover in the first place but as we were to discover this was the least of our worries.

1) we were greeted by a rather zealous but curt receptionist who was more interest in gettin back to his cat and foot ball match rather than tend to his two new guests.
our room was on the 3rd floor , the staires are so steep that they are almost vertical, and trying to get our luggage to the room was not an easy task!

2) on entry into the room we were greeted by a very cold daught that was to be a permanent problem , as the heating of the room would never work. the television which is only slightly bigger than an ipad and placed close to the ceiling would definately require binoclulars to see, and i dont think that even that would help as the few channels that they did have all had bad reception!

3) but the best is yet to come, my friend and i thought that we were the only ones in our room.... but as the evening approached we had rats running around though out the room and bathrom the whole night! we were terrified and tried calling the emergency number for the reception several times but clearly the number was a joke!

i would never ever reccomend this place to anyone! its a nightmare from the time you enter.

definitely a memorable stay.
took us 2 hours to find this "hotel". and another hour to climb the stairs (no elevator).
the room was tiny. it was freezing. the heating wasn't working. thankfully we hadn't come to amsterdam to spend time in the hotel.
so we went out for some outdoor activites. which made us hungry. so we went to a supermarket and ate some food in the hotel (despite the paper on the door which says: NO FOOD). bad idea. VERY bad idea. now we know why you are not supposed to eat in the room. trust me, it's for your own good. unless u like the company of rats at night.
actually, the worst thing is that u don't actually see them, u only hear them, but they are very loud.
so if you really have no other choice than to stay in this "hotel", then be prepared for the worst. and no, i am not exaggerating. good luck.
