“Good service, great location, and comfortable room”
Reviewed 9 July 2009

The sign for the hotel is hard to see from a distance, but it is next to the Marriott which has a huge sign. The room is spacious and nicely decorated. I particularly like the big, bright bathroom. I arrived at 9 a.m. and the front desk gladly checked me in early. It was efficient and painless. The elevator to the guest floors requires key card to access. There are many English TV channels. The location is very good with museums, parks, restaurants, and public transportation within 1-2 blocks.

First off, there are two NH hotels in Amsterdam with similar names (NH Amsterdam Centre and NH Amsterdam City Centre), so check that you have the correct address and if taking a taxi, ensure that the driver knows which hotel you’re going to. The taxi fare should be fairly cheap from Amsterdam Centraal Station, maybe around 10 Euro. Arriving from Amsterdam Centraal station is fairly easy on Trams 1, 2 or 5. Just get off at the Leidseplein stop and look for the hotel across the street.

The hotel is located on a fairly busy street right at the end of the Leidseplein area, which is full of bars and drunk/rowdy/obnoxious tourists. Otherwise the location is very convenient, with several trams available just across the street.

The staff were helpful and spoke excellent English (as does apparently everyone in Holland). The concierge gave excellent restaurant advice and provided a map, so be sure to ask for recommendations before you end up eating at any of the mediocre and overpriced spots around Leidseplein. Avoid the pancake/crepe restaurant across the street near the canal; the food is horribly overpriced and geared towards tourists.

The room was quite good, spacious enough with all the amenities you’d expect (A/C, in-room safe, etc.). Instead of a king-sized bed it was simply two doubles pushed together, but that’s normal enough in Europe. We faced the front of the hotel and had a beautiful canal view. All in all, everything about the stay was excellent, although I would consider this to be more of a 4-star hotel than the 5-star that they claim. We booked through Priceline, so the room was definitely worth the price was paid.

My husband and I just came back from Amsterdam. He was on a business trip which lasted from the end of June until July 6. We booked this hotel through Travelocity.com for 11 nights. Some positive things about the hotel are great location, modern furnishing and some extra comfort, more specifically an extra pillow, a robe and a pair of slippers. If you intend to stay for a short term in the midst of Amsterdam’s tourist life, this hotel may meet your expectations.
But beware, things are not as they seem. We received a bill at the end of our stay that shocked us. They charged us 7 days at the maximum rate when we knew for sure that this rate applied only for the 2 weekends. When we tried to explain, the receptionist pretended that she did not understand us. The manager was standing right next to her but did not introduce herself and just instructed the receptionist in Dutch to bring up the concern with the company we booked the hotel through.
Also, my husband had a late flight so we asked whether he can check out 2 hours later than the regular check out time. They wanted to charge us 50 Euros. There was not even an offer to store his luggage as an alternative.
Finally, from their website one can easily assume that Internet is provided. Well, it is not and their plans are totally inadequate to meet business needs. The price of the breakfast is exaggerated and you end up paying 2.5 times the amount of an Irish breakfast just across the bridge in the plaza. If you inquire about information that provides alternatives such as cheaper ways to get to attractions you are faced with ambiguous and hardly helpful answers from the concierge. Clearly, there are some management problems that have a significant negative affect on customer care which is a pity because this hotel has a great potential.

Booked the 5 star NH amsterdam hotel directly through the NH Website. Upon arrriving at the hotel i was told that my booking wasnt valid even tho i booked it in April!! I explained how i had a confirmation booking but they didnt want to hear. I was told my hotel room was given away because we didnt book in before 4pm. This was never mentioned at any stage to me, the hotel manager called the NH group who said to give me another hotel so thats what we had to do. Ended up staying in another hotel which was nice but very noisy. The offer i got was a manager special.....it was special alright. I didnt even get to stay there

We spent four days and nights in Amsterdam. The hotel was very close to the museums and the Heineken Brewery.Leidseplein Square was very close with amateur entertainment happening daily. The room was small by our standards in the United States, but the bed was a good size one.And we really didn't spend alot of time in the room with so many things to do and see.Don't make the mistake I made when we got to the room, you have to use one of the cards they give you to put in the slot on the wall,or no electricity.

Have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel and could not fault it in any way. Flew easyjet with only hand luggage so relied on hotel to provide toiletries and they did, even providing my husband with a shaving kit (free of charge) Also provided slippers in room and adaptor plug (as I had forgotten mine!) Breakfast was included in our deal and there was lots of choice and a great coffee machine! weather was HOT, HOT, HOT so was very pleased air conditioning was quiet as we had it on through the night. Had a room on floor 2 and very peaceful, no traffic noise. Hotel was very clean and nicely furnished with a modern design.

Amsterdam was great, hotel located just across from a canal with boat trips and near all the bars and restaurants with the Hard Rock Cafe opposite. Great holiday - will definately return.

Stayed here 3 nights at the end of May. Arrived at 2pm and the room was not ready. Would have been nice to check in after a long flight but left our bags and checked in later. 2nd floor very small room, cramped with a view of the air duct system. Very modern and clean with a good sized bathroom, comfortable bed.

The location is excellent, right across from Leidseplein with lots of food and drink options and a short walk to Museumplein and Vondelpark. It is an easy tram ride or long walk to other sights near Centraal station or Jordaan.

If you ask at the front desk they will give you a code for 15 minutes on the internet but it would have been nice if they had offered a map of the city.

One negative: The bathtub is very deep and hard to step out of safely. I injured my foot on the metal plug in the middle of the bathtub.
