So much has been written about Hotel Brouwer, most of it rightly very positive, so I won't repeat it all. However, one or two recent reviews are a bit mealy-mouthed about this gorgeous, little canal house and I wanted to set the record straight!
The main thing that some of the recent reviewers do not seem to appreciate, is that the hotel is decorated in simple, period style. It is deliberate! It is not "basic" but absolutely beautiful. The decor is such a joy.
The bedrooms are beautifully tranquil, with their wooden floors and beautifully simple wooden furniture - upright chairs, charming wooden table, lovely Shaker-style wardrobe and so on. The beds are sweet and simple, the ben-linen white cotton with broderie anglaise or fine white decoration - and very frequently changed. Yet, the modern touches are there - a small flat-screen tv on a wall, a stylish metal floor lamp, metallic bedside lamps.
The rest of the hotel is postcard pretty - it IS like being inside a Dutch interior! The breakfasts are delicious and everything on the table is stylish and lovely. Such care has been taken to give guests a perfect impression.
The staff are great and really friendly - it IS like being in a home, especially in the morning - and having free internet access by the dining area is brilliant.
I have gone on a bit but I SO wanted all you readers to go ahead and book this place - in advance, because it is VERY popular! Truly, you will be charmed as we were. We cannot recommend it highly enough!
