“Doria hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2013

This hotel is always my first choice for a long weekend in Amsterdam. I've stayed here many times over the years, the staff are always friendly an happy to see me. Big bonus for Doria is that it's close to everything and it has smoking rooms.

Surprised on the bad side in view of positive reviews in Tripadvisor.
Small rooms, smell of canabis, not so friendly staff, and all five nights the same breakfast. What makes the hotel attractive despite all of this-its location juston side of Damsquare.

The Doria is a small hotel in the centre of Amsterdam just off Dam Square. It is quite basic but clean and very friendly staff. It is close to restaurants, shops, Red Light District (a must see) and Amsterdam Central train station. It is above an itallian restaurant but we did not notice any smells or noise. You will receive 10% discount on your meal in the restaurant and at the excellent Mexican across the road. Breakfast is typical continental consisting of meats, cheese, salads, hard boiled eggs, bread and preserves - more than enough to set you up for the day. There is a lift, computer for guests use and free wi-fi.
To get to the Doria from Schiphol Airport catch the train to Amsterdam Central (3 stops about €4). Follow the signs to Dam Square less than a 10 minutes walk. Damstraat is a street on the top left of the square. Very easy to find. Everyone speaks english which put us to shame but meant we had no problem asking directions. A real gem of a find, I would definately reccomend staying here.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor overlooking the main road, which was interesting to look out of but...

The room is clean and tidy but is very small and is not true to what was advertised. It is very very small one can get claustrophobic. It is not worth the price I had to pay for the stay. The staff are helpful and friendly. The place is very accessible. It was rated as a 3 star hotel which I felt is quite a generous rating owing to it not achieving the standard of a 3 star hotel. It is nothing different from cheap bed and breakfast hostels that I stayed in before except that those hostels are more roomy. i am referring to the single accommodation rooms which has the same facilities. I was disappointed.

11 of us stayed in this hotel for a long weekend. We didn't expect much but we were pleasantly surprised. I would describe it as an independent Premier Inn of sorts. Fantastic location, the reception staff were extremely helpful, fresh towels every day, room cleaned everyday plus breakfast in the mornings was included, although we only made it in time once! Overall highly recommended for a cheap and decent quality stay.
