“Big Room Well Located”

The hotel was well located in a convenient part of the city. The cost was very reasonable for Amsterdam so you need to accept certain things will not be perfect. That being said, the rooms were large and clean with good beds and large windows opening onto the street. Staff were also great and very helpful

Our stay at Le Coin was arranged through Amsterdam University, where my husband had business. We had a good two-night stay in a large, quiet room facing the back. The bed was comfortable; bathroom was modern; and the staff very helpful. We've stayed in Amsterdam before, in a different neighborhood, and found the location of Le Coin to be excellent for getting to almost everywhere we needed to go on foot. Although in a very busy part of town, the street itself was not at all noisy.

Wireless internet was advertised, but connection speed was very slow, so the front desk gave us a cable to plug in instead. .I'm not sure the Wi-Fi would have worked in our room for some other device, so I was fortunate to be using a laptop with plug-in. Charge for internet connection is 5 Euro for 24 hours, though you can also pay by the hour. Since this is a residence hotel, and has people staying for long periods of time on business, I would think having strong wireless throughout the building would be a necessity. Also on the negative side, the lighting in the room was very poor; I can understand using energy saving bulbs (we do so at home ourselves), but the wattage of the bedside, desk, and overhead bulbs was really low.

We did not have breakfast at the hotel, as we thought it was a bit expensive. There are lots of places nearby to grab coffee or food.

The location of the hotel is rather convenient, on a small street in historic part of the town, some 10-15 min walk from the central station. The rooms are large, which is quite unusual in Amsterdam. But the good things stop there: the corridors are gloomy, the rooms are not very comfortable, with rather poor beds. Decoration is inexistent. The bathroom is very small and not well equipped. Breakfast is rather basic, but with good bread. The advertising says ' a 4 stars at a price of a 3 stars'. Would be more accurate to write 'a 2 stars at the price of a 3 stars'...

The room was very large, with some self-catering facilities, but not all furniture was in good repair. Bathroom small in comparison; dark hall. Small breakfast room, excellent location, but not all that quiet.

I only spent one night in this hotel, but understood that many visiting scholars at Amsterdam University stay there for longer periods. My large room was equipped with a kitchenette and fridge which would have suited such guests. The bathroom had a big bathtub which I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to use, but the shower was good and the bathroom was very clean. The hotel is located in the centre of Amsterdam, yet on a street with limited traffic - far more bicycles than cars! The staff were very efficient and helpful. We had breakfast and could then stay on in an adjacent room for a meeting and freely refill our coffee cups as we liked. The breakfast was good and the attentive staff quickly came with more eggs or fresh bread when something ran out. I would not mind staying at Le Coin again next time I visit this incredibly charming and friendly city.

We stayed here for a week in May, and it provided a near-perfect base from which to explore Amsterdam. Having a kitchenette is very convenient because it allowed us to have breakfast in, something we prefer. The only problem is our room location: it was in the corner overlooking the square (that part was fine) but right over a popular bar/cafe hangout which got noisier as the week progressed. We finally changed rooms on a Thursday. So, if you're there from Thursday thru Saturday, avoid the corner rooms. Very friendly staff and fairly priced.

Room Tip: As mentioned above, avoid a corner room if you're staying there Thursday thru Saturday.

Stayed here July as this was our first visit to Amsterdam. The staff was helpful in making dinner reservations for us. Yes, the rooms may not be 4 or 5 star quality but they are sufficient for comfortable lodging and more importantly the Le Coin is in a great location. Close to the trams, within walking distance to many things and if you price other hotels in the area, you won't find a better value. Definitely recommend!!
