“Go for the waffles!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2014

Don't miss this market just because you're not in the mood to buy clothes or souvenirs. You should totally go there to eat the absolutely delicious waffles!!! They're cheaper than the others that are sold in the stores and much, much better!

“A long street market”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2014

Have been here a few times. It is worth catching a tram to one end of it and walking down and catching a tram to go home the other end. Plenty of clothes, food stalls etc and cafes along the road and on side streets, to keep you going! Here the shops along the road spread out to their maket stalls. Most interesting.

“Uninteresting and all the same-made-in-China rubbish”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2014

My memories of this market during the early 80's are very vivid. Back then the Heineken factory was a real brewery and not ' the Heineken experience tourist trap'. This used to be a very ethnical market. Sometimes depending on the winds the pungent fragrances of spices and curries and soup-like smell of the brewery could be smelled as far as the Concert Gebouw. Back in those days the market was very lively and targeted especially to the Suriname, North African and Indonesian community. At that time the Pijp was not trendy at all on the contrary no fancy cafes nor restaurants and the market was the core of day time district life. Here you could have found the most uncommon spices/curries and olives and a galore of fresh exotic foods. Today is just the usual all China rubbish and a handful of cute cafes and restaurants in the surroundings.
I suggest to go to Dapperstraat market a more authentic neighborhood market where you will find the most delicious herring and fried fish to go!

“Lovely market worth going”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2014

Albert market is located south of Amsterdam and is really the place for food tasting or food shopping. Lots of fresh fish, fruits, vegetables, pickles and other things to try. What really made an impression is the fresh delicious herring that we tried. It is a Dutch traditional dish that cannot be missed!! You will find the shop in front of the stall selling raw seafood. Give it a try, it comes with pickles and some onions. The herring is super fresh and there is no smelly fishy smell. Very delicious . There is also fried kibblings on offer. Not as great but still nice.

“Did not meet my expectations”

I definitely do not think it was worth the walk. There wasn't much at the market that I hadn't already seen elsewhere around the city. Although it was good for buying cheaper fruits, cheese, vegetables etc.
