After a mediocre dining experience on the Museumplein earlier in the day, we needed something to eat before leaving Amsterdam by train from the Central Station nearby to the De Kroonprins Cafe (Grand Cafe de Kroonprins on the sign).
A normal traditional cafe with a large outdoor dining area (rather exposed but it was nice and sunny), the waiter was helpful, friendly and prompt and we ordered what we thought would be quite small dishes.
When the food arrived we were pleasantly surprised. I'd ordered a ham baguette and expected just that - but it came with an enormous salad (I wasn't in a salad type of mood but it proved so tasty that I ate it anyway). My wife enjoyed her serving of dessert too - including fresh strawberries.
A nice convenient place for a meal - especially when the Central Station seems to be a construction site at the moment.
