We just returned from an amazing week stay at the New Holland House. If you are going to Amsterdam you must stay in the Jordaan area and the New Holland House is the perfect house. The location is picture perfect and you can sit for hours either inside or outside and just look at everything going on outside as it's located right on the Prinsengracht Canal. It's within walking distance of everything and there are a lot of great restaurants & cafes in the neighborhood. There are also 4 bikes which you must ride to get the true biking experience in The Netherlands. They are so much fun. The neighbors are very friendly and one gentleman even came outside to help when he saw we were having a little difficulty getting the locks off the bikes.
Yes, the steps are steep but that's part of the experience. A lot of thought has gone into preserving this house and it's immaculate and has everything you could possibly need. There are small markets nearby that you can easily walk to.
It is located right across the canal from the Pultizer Hotel. Another must do is spend the little extra money for a canal boat tour on the "de Tourist" which is parked right across the canal at the Pulitzer Hotel. The boat is gorgeous and is limited to about 10 people which makes it very personal and the boat Captain was very humorous and informative.
We cannot say enough good things about the New Holland House. It's perfect for 2 couples or a family of 4. It has so much room and the kitchen is stocked with anything you could possibly want.
People talk about the church bells ringing all night but that wasn't a problem at all with us and we had no difficulty sleeping through the night on the very comfortable beds.
The owner lives in Australia and he is very attentive and responds quickly to emails.
This house is a once in a lifetime experience. It’s a historic building. To live in it, in such an elegant neighborhood, is a real treat. It’s very bright and comfortable and looking right onto the canal. Two blocks from the Anne Frank House as well. I’m sad to leave.
Our holiday in Amsterdam at New Holland House was the best vacation of all time. The house was perfectly appointed, full of small considerations, and spectacularly centrally located. Both the exterior and the interior of the home are extraordinarily beautiful and well-kept, and the owner and manager are both gracious and welcoming. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone interested in a vacation that allows you to cook and shop at the wonderful food and flower markets in Amsterdam- The kitchen had everything you could possibly need to cook a delightful meal – as well as be in the perfect location to reach everything quickly and easily by foot. We will be returning. Thank you!
The house is well appointed with quality furniture and fixtures and is in a great position to experience the canal district of Amsterdam. The owner and manager are responsive and good to deal with. Anyone considering this rental might like to know that it is more suited to a couple or a family with children than several adults sharing. Whoever draws the short straw for the second (or third) bedroom will have a lesser room and may not be happy with sharing the cost. Guests must share the very small upstairs bathroom during the night. The main bathroom is two floors below. The gas fire in the sitting room does not work. There is a residual smell of cigarette smoke on the ground floor and at times an overwhelming smoke smell that caused some health issues for us. Possibly this came from the apartment below, we are not sure, but we note others have said the same thing in the guest book. Potential guests should note the very steep stairways (part of the canal house experience but not for the fainthearted). Building work has been going on at a large-scale next door for at least six months and it starts at 6.30 am, so if you are thinking of booking for the near future be aware of this early morning wake-up. The windows offer little protection from street noise, which can be overwhelming at nights on weekends and holidays, and of course at 6.30 am. If you are a very sound sleeper it will not bother you. Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed the experience of the canal house.
Great house in a fabulous location. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Easy to get to everywhere else - museums etc with a 25 minute walk. Just make sure that you are ok with 2 sets of steep steep stairs !!
The New Holland House was a lovely stay. A four minute walk to the Anne Frank House and in the middle of everything with many shops and restaurants. The host Lidia was very accommodating and helpful for our arrival. The house itself is so delightful, old world Amsterdam combined with upgrades to make our visit wonderfully comfortable. They created a guest book that goes over everything you need to know about your stay and ideas for places to visit, a great read! If you are considering a visit to Amsterdam do not hesitate to book this property. One word of caution: there are three floors connected by two very narrow and steep staircases, not a problem for most but if you are elderly or have mobility issues this may not be ideal.
Stayed here 2 years ago and was not disappointed again. Everything is top quality. Location is excellent. Really appreciated coming back here after long days. Thank you.
