Hotel Vossius Vondelpark
Ranked #57 of 337 Amsterdam B&B and Inns
Reviewed 11 September 2013

Went here around May 2013 with my boyfriend. Just stay for 1 night, because the next day need to fly back to Singapore.

Reach hotel almost evening time, while carrying big luggage, we took tram from Amsterdam Central Station. Around 15 minutes we finally reach the hotel. The hotel were just behind Vondelpark. You need card to go inside or you can press the bell so the front office staff could open the door for you. After finished check in, we went inside room and quite a bit shock because the room was very small compare to some hotels that I've been travel to. But the bed was comfortable and the room also clean.

The dining room were also so small. But again, since we don't spend much time at hotel, we don't really pay much attention.

The hotel is near Rijksmuseum where they have the famous "I Amsterdam" sign. From hotel to Damstrak was around 30 minutes, me and my boyfriend tried it and were so tired. So we chose to used tram when we went out.

Other than the small room, nothing to comment about this hotel since we also stay here for 1 night. At the other block from the hotel, were a lot of high end boutique. Hermes, Burberry, Hilfiger, Ferragamo, etc. Too bad when we reach there, all of them already closed so we need to wait for the next day to come.

We checked out around 11 am the next day and asked front office staff whether we could put our luggage at hotel, since we had night flight and they said yes. The staff show us the 'utility room' which were very small and asked us to put our luggage ourself.

It you want to stay at good location at Amsterdam and don't really care about your room, you can choose this hotel. I might consider to come back to this hotel.

Mixed experience. Location is terrific. Can't go wrong there. Rooms appear fairly recently modernized and so are in good shape. No worn-out beds or fungi in the bathroom. Can't understand they didn't put in AC though. On warm summer's day room will get (too) hot forcing you to open the window ... and then the bugs come in. Hotel is adjacent to moisty and humid Vondelpark, so no shortage of mosquitos. Downer was the sort of contract we had to undersign making us liable for all sorts of damages we had no intention of causing. I guess it's because of bad prior experiences that the hotel does this, but it's a downer for well-intending customers. I also gues that because of its relatively cheap rates it attracts the wrong sort of crowd -- the kind that comes to Amsterdam to smoke and drink. All good and well, but maybe it should find a different way of attracting the right kind of guests. Then you wouldn't have loud guests arriving in the early AM keeping the rest of the hotel awake. Because, unfortunately, the place is noisy. Thin walls and bad acoustics. So, all in all, average place: good location, clean rooms, but noisy and no AC. Oh, one last thing: in typical Amsterdam fashion the people at reception appear uninterested and unwelcoming towards arriving guests. Either business is thriving and they don't give a [--] about clientele or they still have to find out what customer service means. Unlikely to find this sort of attitude in any US hotel (except in NYC of course).

We loved the location of this hotel. The staff was courteous, and they provided good recommendations for places to eat and the like. The room was very small, and the hotel does not have air conditioning, so the summertime there was a bit rough. Also, the hotel appears to have a pretty bad mosquito problem. We stayed two nights at the hotel and both nights woke up to buzzing in our ears from the mosquitoes passing by. We killed a bunch during the day of the second day, but to no avail. We left the place covered in bug bites that turned into scabs later in the trip.

For around €100 per night this hotel is definitely good value for money. It's is a really central location, seemed newly renovated and rooms were always clean. There is no air con so it can get quite hot in summer. We left the windows open and got eaten alive by Mosquitos - beware! Apart from this, the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a lot of noise throughout the evenings (we were there 3 nights) from people chatting whilst walking up n down the stairs. It was annoying, but for the price, you can't really complain. Overall, a great choice for a weekend away!!

As mentioned in the other reviews, Hotel Vossius Vondelpark is a clean place conviniently situated near Museumsplein, not far away from the city. No air con- which was simply terrible in this years`summer heat.
Overall, I would say it does not offer a very good cost/value ratio.
When it comes to communication, this hotel is very weak: No website, no reply to the questions we asked in our booking. Finally, when we called, a very unfriendy woman was answering the phone and told us that "NO! Of course they could not let us a baby bed."
In the end we brought our own which was a bit tricky since it took all the spare space in the tiny room but did the trick.

Note that the parking situation near the hotel is complicated like anywhere in Amsterdam: public parking spaces are nearby in Vossiusstraat, but they are expensive and not exactly safe- someybody tried to break into our car. If that does not discourage you: Sundays are free of charge, other days cost 36 Euro/day.

We stayed three nights in this hotels and it was a pleasant stay. It is close to vondelpark, the streets are silent; it is connected to the city centre with 2 trams and very close to the bus stop for the airport. The staff is very kind and the breakfast good. We had a very good price for our stay (breakfast was included in the room rate).

Recently stayed as a group of six for three nights to find a very nice, very clean and tastefully decorated hotel, located next to Vondelpark a great location close to museums and transport links, the rooms are a little small but you only sleep and shower in them because there's loads to do in Amsterdam, we had no problems with that.
The staff were very friendly one girl in particular Carice was extremely helpful, I hope her bosses realise what an asset she is to the hotel and that she is rewarded accordingly, cheers!
