“A lovely base for a wonderful weekend”

Flip and Maryan are fantastic hosts.

It was a delight to stay at their houseboat moored in the Westerdok, Amsterdam.

We looked around the usual accommodation search sites and found a couple of options but then came across the Ms Luctor. After some research, we decided to request to book. Flip is great to correspond with. He replied promptly with confirmation that our requested dates were available and clear instructions how to book. We paid 50% up front and agreed that the balance would be paid on arrival.

The boat was easy to find. We walked up from the Central Station and on arrival, Flip came out to greet us. He explained what we needed to know about our accommodation and there was a good information book in our living quarters to read at leisure along with a good supply of guide books and a complementary map. Flip and Maryan live on a separate section of the boat so were on hand if required.

There are some steps within the boat and it slopes slightly so is not suitable for anyone with poor mobility. We loved its 'quirkiness', comfort and peacefulness. Entrance is via the old wheelhouse which still contains exist existing and interesting features. There is a small table and two stools along with coffee/tea making facilities with complimentary tea and coffee. From here you can watch the world go by via boats sailing in the dock. Down four steps is the lounge area with some seating and a table made from the old propeller (?). A good electric shower and separate toilet leads off from this area. Down a further four steps is the sleeping area with a lovely comfortable bed. I slept like a log and remember drifting off to sleep whilst watching the moon through one of the portholes as I drifted. It was so quite so sleep was undisturbed by any noise. In the sleeping area is a sink and clothes storage facilities. There is space around the hanging area to prop up any baggage.

The boat is so well equipped from a hairdryer to 'essentials' like corkscrew/bottle opener to a gadget to weigh your luggage. Towels, a bathrobe, handwash and shower gel is supplied along with 'surprises' like some complimentary welcome beer and bottled water in the fridge.

One memory I will cherish is hearing the click of the door in the morning as we were waking up and knowing that a delicious and hearty breakfast would be waiting for us in the wheelhouse. This was served in a large wicker basket and comprised of fresh croissants, fresh bread, jams, butter, cheese, honey, cereals, milk, organic yoghurt, freshly squeezed orange juice, boiled eggs and a dutch sausage! Delicious. We were blessed with some good weather so we ate one breakfast at the outside picnic table belonging to the guest area of the boat. The situation is close enough to the city centre but still in a quiet and restful location.

There is good complimentary wi-fi on the boat.

We will be back one day, the sooner the better.

“Best Authentic Amsterdam Experience”

We have spent an excellent time in Houseboat Luctor. The location is superb, quiet but very close to city center. The houseboat has an unlivable history, she carried coal under sail with no engine. Now she is the most comfortable and original home on the canals. The neighboring part of the canal is lined with different versions of houseboats, each more interesting and beautiful than the other. Our host is an artist, a very considerate and knowledgeable man, we feel privileged to know him. Our neighbour is the single remaining eel fisherman of Amsterdam. The houseboat is comfortable, warm, clean, very romantic. Our host serves excellent breakfast every morning. The bathroom and the toilet are spotless with more than enough hot water. It is great to spend time here watching the scenery on a cold rainy Amsterdam day, or go biking around the city or canoe riding in the canals on a good one. we hope to visit again.

thought it would make a memorable birthday treat for my husband to complement a Weekend in Amsterdam,by staying in this Houseboat--all the previous reviews have been "spot-on"-it was Wonderful!
Again--we Loved the breakfast--(and it helped that the sun always shone!)--amazing how such a small space had everything necessary, and more, to make a great holiday
And Flip was a wonderful/discreet host
we will be back!

We've just spent 4 wonderful nights here on Flip's very cosy, comfortable & 'gezellig' houseboat (difficult to translate from Dutch but basically all of the above!)
We so enjoyed the delicious breakfast kindly delivered at 8:30am & the bikes made getting around so easy.
Would definitely recommend this place & hope to return at some time in the future

“A special birthday trip”

I booked this house boat as a special 60th birthday for my husband, it did not disappoint. Within easy walking distance from Amsterdam central train station and very easy to find. Flip couldn't be there when we arrived which wasn't a problem as he emailed with instructions to gain access and also left a note on the door. The boat is in a quiet area wonderful views and fantastic location for the city centre either walking or using the bikes supplied by Flip. The acommodation is clean providing hairdryer, bathrobes towels etc, with tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast a large continental relaxed affair, Flip drops it off at 8.30 you can eat it when you like. A very hospitable host making our stay very enjoyable.

I agree with all the other positive reviews. We enjoyed 4 nights on board and felt very privileged to be able to enjoy life afloat amongst Amsterdam's residential boat (or rather ship!) community. I particularly appreciated exploring the Westerdok canals in Flip's canoe (saw kingfisher and startled a fair few ducks) and made use of one of the bikes to nip down to the museum quarter . Bed huge and exceptionally comfortable.
