This coffeeshop has ,without any doubt the most interesting decor, which sadly IMO, they have slightly modernised or de-trippified in recent years. I liked it when it was more '70s'style but it still outranks all other coffeeshops in this
The first time I went about 4 yrs ago there was this bouncer dude on the door who rather intensely stared you straight in the eye when you went in, I guess to weed ( ahem) out any troublemakers, but it was a bit in your face literally and unless you're used to him, a bit of a heavy vibe and OTT IMO.
However I think he has moved to the other (not original ) dampring shop on tne other side of the cityand so last time (recently) we went he wasn't there, much to our relief.
The staff here are really lovely though, behind both bars, (one for drinks etc - one for "Amsterdam Coffee"and helpful . Also the music has been really nice each time we went, just the right sort of thing playing. We went about 3 times there, last trip
Certainly it is one of my favourite coffeeshops, but although despite others saying the loos were in good condition , each time I have been they could have done with a little servicing and like a lot of loos in Amsterdam they are tiny (if you have long legs like me)
So I'd give them 5 stars but the loos lose one star
