Owner description: Conveniently located in the heart of Amsterdam, Café Hill Street Blues is known for its long history of top quality hospitality services, underground style and popular music events. An ex-coffee shop turned café and juice bar, Hill Street Blues stands out from the crowd thanks to its artsy interior, welcoming staff and unbeatable prices. Offering one of the best milkshakes and hot chocolates in the 'Dam, along with a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, our hip café is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Don't forget to check out our Happy Hour and monthly specials for beer and cocktails at more than affordable prices! Buy your smokes at Green House Effect Coffee Shop, just a few minutes away, then come back to smoke it in one of our comfortable armchairs, while admiring the hustle and bustle along the canal! Our central location also means that we are just a few steps away for some of the city's best tourist attractions! Café Hill Street Blues can be found between the largest train station in the city, Central Station, and the oldest building in Amsterdam, Oude Kerk. The bustling canalside Damrak can be admired directly from our windows, whilst the quirky Sex Museum is just a few blocks away. Madame Tussaud's fun Wax Museum can also be found just down the street from us, whilst the Nieuwe Kerk is just in its vicinity. Considered by many one of the most iconic bars in town, Café Hill Street Blues is the ideal place to get together with a couple of your best friends for an afternoon chill. Fan-favorite music artists come and play to an enthusiastic crowd during the weekends, touching party genres like hip-hop, reggae, drum and bass and dubstep. The hip atmosphere and the grungy interior are the result of years of graffiti and artwork provided by none other than our creative costumers!

“Cool place to visit!”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

even if you're not a smoker this is a great little coffee shop to visit, the names and writing on the walls are great to have a laugh at- and we borrowed a silver marker from a guy and wrote our names to make a mark! we got two beers and they were reasonably priced, also had a milkshake later which was tasty. We ventured into the back room for about half an hour and it was almost too comfy to leave, nice view out the window as well on the waters edge.

“Why I'm not sitting in the Hill Street Blues NOW?”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

So many memories of this coffee shop...
It's a place where (especially in the dark room downstairs) you can really lose the sense of time.
First stop when I'll go back in Amsterdam.

“Cool cafe but warm chocomel”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Nice place to chill for an hour especially if you manage to get one of the sofas next to the canal downstairs. You can't buy food or weed but they have a good selection of drinks - the strawberry milkshake is lush! Don't waste your time with a chocomel from here though as they're never quite cold enough! Also I must admit that the graffiti is nice in the main rooms but it makes the toilets feel dirty.

“Cozy coffeeshop”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

We've been to Amsterdam several times now and Hill Street Blues is always the first place we go to when we arrive and last coffeeshop we visit before we leave Amsterdam. The music is great, the atmosphere is very relaxed and the staff is very friendly. They have great milkshakes and hot chocholate and I love the fresh mint tea with a toastie for breakfast. It's "decorated" by all the people who have stopped by there, everyone is allowed to leave a mark on the walls or on the comfy couches giving the whole place a special charm.

“Hill Street Blues”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

You can't purchase weed here, but you can smoke it in the smoking room. You have to bring your own weed, but you need to buy something from the bar to stay here. The smoking rooms are big and open, with cool graffiti covering the walls and ceiling. There's also live music some nights.
