“B&B Helmers, like at home”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

This was our first time in Amsterdam and this B&B was the perfect solution, closer to museums and city centre. Odette, the owner, took care for us of each little detail and we felt in her B&B like at home. Surely, we remember her breakfast served in the room or in the beatiful panoramic terrace on the roof and her tips on place to see and restaurants! Surely, next time will come back at B&B Helmers again.

My husband, 12-year-old son and I did our first family trip to Europe this month. We travelled to three countries in 11 days, and Helmers B&B in Amsterdam was our home for the last 2 nights of our trip. I can't say enough about how welcoming Odette and her husband were, or how beautiful and well-run the B&B is. We were in the Vermeer room (front corner of the house) and our son was next door in the Rembrandt room. The rooms were spotless, with very comfortable linens and pillows, and nice bathrobes available. Odette had left us a bottle of wine in the room fridge, which we enjoyed on the rooftop patio looking over Amsterdam. Also in the room fridge was a large bottle of cold water, and on the side table was a kettle and supplies for making tea and coffee. Now that I'm home, I'm missing that wonderful touch...first cup of coffee in bed - heaven!

The little kitchen had everything you needed to make a light meal if you wanted to stay in, and the rooftop terrace was a wonderful place to sit and enjoy. The shared bathroom was absolutely no problem. It was spotless, and had luxury products for guest's to use.

Odette brought the three of us a beautiful breakfast every morning. I can't eat wheat so she very kindly provided spelt bread for me.

Our son loved his room so much we could hardly get him out to enjoy Amsterdam, but when we did, the neighbourhood was amazing. We took the tram from the train station following Odette's instructions. We walked in nearby Vondel Park, did a canal cruise about 5 minutes walk from the B&B, and easily walked to Anne Frank house, the Van Gogh museum, and Dam square. The neighbourhood is full of restaurants, shops, food markets, and cafes.

There is a steep flight of stairs, so if you have a lot of luggage or can't do stairs, this is not a good place for you. We enjoyed the stairs - we felt it was part of the Amsterdam experience!

I only wish we could have stayed longer - we had a wonderful time.

Room Tip: If you have any issue with street noise, you should ask for a back room. But with the windows tight...

We stayed 3 nights in B&B Helmers and will definitely recommend it to our friends and family.
Odette, the owner, welcomed us warmly on our arrival, adjusted to our time after sending us direction from the station to get to her place.

She also gave us great addresses for diner in the neighbourhood and looked after museum reservations for us. This really helped our stay in Amsterdam go perfectly. Odette's place is more than just a B&B.

Our room was very pretty, well equipped, very good bed, tv, etc.
The view was nice also.
The shared bathroom, toilets and kitchen are modern and perfectly clean which makes sharing these rooms not an issue at all. And there are nice wardrobes available in your room so you don't need to bring yours to get in the bathroom!

All these rooms were perfectly clean.

Finally, and not least: breakfast! Each morning, Odette brings you breakfast in your room at your own time. We loved it, it's typical, rich, healthy and delicious. It was one the moment of the day we loved ;)

In conclusion, great address you can go without worrying about anything!
Laura

We stayed at B $ B Helmers in February for our first trip to Amsterdam.

What a beautiful place to stay. The rooms where beautifully finished, i felt like i had my own little piece of heaven in Amsterdam! The decor was lovely and the room felt very luxurious, with bathrobes to use and a very comfy soft doona. We had a little table so i could work and a little fridge which they left use a bottle of wine in (we don't drink wine but it was a thoughtful and generous addition!)

The owner Odette, was great to chat with an ask questions about great places to visit and the locations of things. She and her husband prepared the amazing breakfast every morning for us and would bring it in at an arranged time. My husband and I would open all the curtains and sit on the very comfy bed in the sun and eat the massive feast. WOW, beautiful cheeses and sliced meat, fresh fruit and yoghurt. I wouldn't have to eat again till the afternoon!

It is in a great location for everything, including a nice stroll through the Vondelpark and hiring a bike across the road to pedal around Amsterdam. It is a short walk to the Leidseplein if you want to party in a tourist area. The canal crusies pick-up very close by which means you can travel anywhere you need to in the city. It is not right in the middle of a big tourist section so you get to try the nice little pub down stairs which isn't full of tourists and lots of lovely restaurants.

You do share a bathroom and kitchen with another room but there was not a single occasion in 3 days where this was an issue. The bathroom and kitchen were always nice and clean (with sweet smelling bathroom products to use!) and the kitchen had everything you need to make a nice cup of coffee or tea or prepare your own food if you want.

My trip to Amsterdam was such a memorable one and alot of this was due to where we stayed and how special it was. I can't wait to visit Amsterdam and B&B Helmers again in the future.

Room Tip: We had a corner room and it was lovely.

This place is just great. Good location, nice and well kept clean rooms. The couple running the B&B are super friendly and accomodating. The rooma srw at 5th floor so quiet and lots of sunlight. The only hassle is the steep stairs you need to walk up and down but uou get used to it fast. We will come back when we visit Amsterdam again.

I have stayed in the B&B Helmers for a few days in April 2014. The B&B was in city center, just 5 minutes from the museums. It was all squeaky clean, beautiful and new. The breakfasts Odett, who runs the B&B, prepared were by far better than in 4 star hotels. Odett and her family are fabulous people who gave me a lot of valuable advice on where to go, what to see and really good tips where to eat. When I go to Amsterdam again, I am definitely staying in the B&B Helmers. I just hope they will not be booked out ;o))

We had the opportunity to spend three nights at Helmers for our stay in Amsterdam during our honeymoon. Odette was the perfect host! She even greeted us with a bottle of sparkling Rose on our arrival to celebrate the honeymoon.

She provided us with everything we needed to explore the city, tourist attraction pamlets, and recommendations for food. (Hint hint the Indonesian deli downstairs is the BEST for a quick bite)

I'll be honest I was a bit freaked out originally from having to share a bathroom but Odette kept it spotless! Everything was very clean and up to date .Even the toiletries were heavenly! From the linen to the nice sized bathtub and walk in shower her B&B was well maintained. You won't even notice that you are sharing the bathroom with other guests.

Breakfast is also spot on and just different enough every day to keep things interesting. We had to catch an early train on our last morning so she even put together a pre wrapped breakfast to take with us.

The one thing that I will say (though it didn't bother us in the least) is that her B&B is NOT for the elderly or a person who packs a billion pounds of luggage. There are a ton of stairs to get to the B&B. Worth it in every way for the view though!

Also they are very windy and a bit narrow at times. Again, for us it was a non issue and I actually found them to be rather pretty and charming. However a person with a bad knee, ankle, or whatever would not find it charming in the least.

Perfect stay and I would definitely visit the Helmer House again.
