This is not a traditional Bed & Breakfast, more a short term self catering rental. The house is located in an easily accessible and attractive quiet suburb close to the centre on Amsterdam. Parking is at the house and is easy and free. The walk to the ferry, which runs frequently and is free, is 20 to 25 minutes brisk walk and takes you along the river side and through a light industrial estate. Scott, who works full time, left us instructions on how to collect our room and front door keys on our arrival. He also left us maps and instructions on how to find the ferry and central Amsterdam. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. Scott can provide a breakfast for an additional 10 euros each. Or there is a shared self catering kitchenette with free tea, coffee, fruit juice and breakfast cereals and fresh fruit. Scott is very friendly and helpful, but we only saw him twice during the late evening after he'd returned home from work. Scott prefers payment in cash, but can take credit cards or PayPal with an additional 4% administration charge. Compared with other Bed & Breakfasts we've stayed at across most countries in Europe it misses being met and greeted by the host, daily cleaning and bed making, and a prepared breakfast in the morning. You are very much left to your own devices without the support of a resident host, which for the experienced and confident traveller is OK.
