“The other great cocktail bar in Amsterdam”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We sampled a number of great cocktails after dinner next door. The service is excellent, the assortment of craft cocktails is top shelf, and the bartenders are knowledgeable and fun to talk with. Please keep in mind that food is limited to simple snacks, so make sure you get some food at another area restaurant because you will want to try more than one drink!

“Excellent, enjoyable”

Considering service and quality Amsterdam can be a rough place. But in HPS everything is different. The staff is utmost friendly and, no doubt, adoring everything conserning taste, quality, creativity. This is the place to be if you are into a good cocktail! On thursdays a smashing band plays 1930-s style music.

“A real experience”

Myself and a group of friends were in Amsterdam for a 30th Birthday and stumbled across this place (it really is hidden in plain sight). After reading a few reviews from others we decided to give it a shot (excuse the pun) and what a great evening we ended up having.

As soon as we walked in the door it was like being in a time machine! The back to the future references were funny and all the decor really made it feel like being inside a Murder Mystery in the 1930's.

The staff were extremely friendly and happy to make some good recommendations. We were made to feel welcome by the owner who managed to find us a table even though we hadn't reserved.

The variety of cocktails available was fantastic, with some strange ingredients such as jam, chilli, marrow bone (yuk), there really was something for everyone and the very impressive menu (which had a brief description of the cocktail and the ingredients) helped steer us in the right direction. Also on the table you get peanuts, olives and water, which was a nice touch.

All the cocktails are served in different glasses and all decorated to suit their name! My favourite was the Walking Dead served in a skull shaped glass, needless to say only one of them is needed!!

We went on a Thursday and there was a live string band playing. They really were amazing and gave the place a fantastic atmosphere.

If you visit Amsterdam and enjoy a cocktail then you have to visit this bar! It really is one of a kind.

Went here on a saturday night to check it out and its absolutely fabulous!!! Cocktail selection is limited but they are a delicious twist on traditional drinks with good music, top service, and a nice crowd. Its very expensive, prices start at 12 euro if I remember correctly, not my usual kinda place, i'm more for the 5euro drinks but it was a special occasion so we splurged!

Complimentary peanuts and olives on arrival, the hostesses top up your water glass continuously throughout the night (they give you water on arrival along with the snacks).
Definitely recommend it, its worth it just to see the amazingly hipster barmen, if it wasn't so crammed i probably would have asked for a photo! They are really nice guys and and i would advise reserving a space at the bar where you can watch the drinks being made, the barmen didn't seem to mind answering questions when they weren't crazy busy!!!

** You need a Reservation!!! As mentioned in the other reviews, there may be empty tables but they wont let you sit down as they are reserved. Its a bad use of space but it keeps it classy i guess! Also if your reservation is for 10pm, they mean 10pm... there is no "having a drink at the bar" while you wait, as the bar seating is also reserved! So yes the seating is a bit silly but even at that, not a problem if you ring ahead and book a table.

Definitely recommend!!

“Fabulous small cocktail bar on a back street”
Reviewed 26 January 2014

Lovely little cocktail bar unassumingly hidden on a street corner. Great and extensive cocktail list, lovely just to sit at the bar. Only downside is that it takes reservations and therefore you can be there and not get a seat whilst tables are empty waiting for the reservations to arrive. Seems all a bit uptight for such a chilled out venue.
