This place is a special tip!
The house is well-equipped, everything is clean, wonderful backyard, bike range to city.
Rent a bike (contact owner) and enjoy beautiful Waterland.
The owners are very nice people. Even gave us a lift to the next Metro Station. Friendly and very easygoing atmosphere.
Skaap Waterland is absolutely recommendable if you are looking for a quiet and mind refreshening time... And still be close to Amsterdam.
Thank you for the great time.
This lovely self-catering property with all modern facilities lies in the "Weilanden " of North East Amsterdam and provides the ideal location for a very enjoyable rustic holiday experience combined with the delights on the city centre which lies nearby. The locality is lovely and the countryside charming. Two or three good local restaurants and a nearby farmers/supermarket providing wholesome produce beyond that which is usually offered in normal outlets. Inge, the property owner, is quite charming and went out of her way to be extraordinarily helpful. We would certainly consider returning and trying some of the easy cycle routes
For those wishing to visit Holland and Amsterdam, this is a lovely property with a very friendly and helpful owner, Inge, who speaks excellent English for those who need it. She provided various nice things to eat and drink as a welcome pack. We stayed on a self-catering basis for a week in April and found the kitchen to be well equipped for our needs. The bed was huge and very comfortable. There was plenty of hot water and also fast heating for our cooler evenings. From the description on her website, you will note that there is not a washing machine. The ensuite only has a shower and not a bath. Also, the toilet is not in the ensuite but downstairs. The stairs are quite steep and require care.
The holiday home sits within the owner’s garden and guests can use the whole garden and sit in various places. There are open views over the countryside, which has a huge variety of water birds, many of which can be viewed at close quarters. Ransdorp is a lovely historic village and there are many others within easy driving distance including Marken and Edam. There is also a splendid network of cycleways linking villages and also providing a route into Amsterdam. Having bicycles would be fun but we used a car to travel further distances.
We did not try the number 30 bus into the city but took the car a short distance to a park and ride which is served by the trams. 1 Euro for parking after 10.00am and 5 Euros for two return tickets. Be aware that the full parking charge will apply if you fail to scan your used tram ticket at the pay machine after being in the city. Travel tickets need to be scanned when entering and leaving public transport. The day travel pass of 13.50 Euros, which allows unlimited travel, including the water buses, is much better value that 15.50 Euros for a one hour cruise. We failed to plan our trip and lost out as a result.
We would highly recommend this property and the warm welcome from the owner. The location in the countryside is lovely and there is easy access to the city and the motorway network, which provided a simple 30 minute journey from the airport.
