Well appointed hotel just opposite the Amsterdam central train station. Distinct design makes your stay a worthy experience. Comfortable rooms and plenty of space to relax in, restaurant, bar, library and lounge.

Very clean but make sure to ask for cleaning your room before you leave, it might not be done until late afternoon. Otherwise good service, friendly and helpful staff.

My wife and I stayed at Art’otel Amsterdam for ten nights in April 2014. The Hotel is very vocal about about its “five star” status and therefore deserves to be evaluated in that context — and so I shall.

The hotel’s biggest “fail” was not resolving my wife’s inability to log onto the hotel’s WiFi for three whole days. In the 21st Century that is a big deal. The problem seemingly began with a larger internet outage at the hotel. After that was resolved my wife found herself unable to access the hotel’s log-in page. We repeatedly brought this to the staff’s attention and received the impression that since this wasn’t a “hotel problem” it was not an urgent matter.

I have no complaint about the attitude of the staff, who were friendly and solicitous. The problem was that for three days no one was able to get anything done. We eventually received a verbal apology from a member of the IT staff when the problem was dealt with, but that is all we got. We weren’t offered as much as a drink at the bar for our inconvenience.

There were other things that were less than satisfactory. The housekeeping was spotty and slow. Small details (e.g., refilling an empty tissue box) would be missed. Housekeeping seemed to be either inefficient or understaffed. On several occasions we left before ten in the morning and came back at four in the afternoon to find our room untouched. In fact, the day we arrived our room was not ready until well after check-in time. There seems to be very little soundproofing and several times we heard hotel employees having rather loud and extended conversations in the hall.

The room itself was OK. The lighting system is innovative and convenient, but the waste receptacles are laughingly tiny. There is virtually no drawer space thus making it necessary to live out your suitcase, especially for an extended stay. There was no bathtub.

The art theme of the hotel is pleasant and interesting, but becomes less so over the course of a longer stay. The hotel’s location is perfect for a tourist, being a short walk from Centraal Station. The staff was invariably friendly and the restaurant staff was particularly charming and solicitous.

It is not a bad hotel and has an earnest staff, but the fifth star seems like at least one star too many based on our experience. The handling of the internet access problem was simply inexcusable and on a subsequent visit I am sure we will find somewhere else to stay at lower cost.

Lovely hotel, opposite centraal station so it's a good landmark location for exploring. Very comfortable room, friendly, helpful service. Lots of areas to relax in such as a lively bar, library and lounge. Also decent sized restaurant/breakfast area with a good choice of food. Hence the name it's been decorated throughout in a distinctive modern art design and boasts mood lighting and interactive wall art. Overall very welcoming and I can't fault it.

The Art'otel has a beautiful space, very friendly staff, a central location - overall, a very good stay. The included breakfast was also a good way to start the day. The artwork at 5 & 33 was a great touch for a unique experience.

Just returned from the Art'otel, the hotel itself is in a great location for all attractions and transport links. The hotel itself is clean. The only downside was the service in the restaurant was slow at times with waiting for both food and drinks, although the food is of good qaulity. The staff are really friendly and nice and the hotel itself is clean. I would definitely recommend a stay here when visiting Amsterdam.

I have stayed in a number of hotels in Amsterdam but this is the best of all. It is in a great location, only a short walk from Central Station and adjacent to tram stops for museums etc. It is within walking distance of Dam Square, Ann Frank House, and the Jordaan District etc.

The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, it is obvious that this embedded in the company culture. Breakfast was great and served up to 11am which was great on the mornings that we decided to take it easy. There was a good selection in the buffet and a range of dishes can be cooked on the spot, some included in the package and others at an extra charge.

There is a real relaxed ambiance about the place which is evident from the moment you arrive at reception, to the bar and the lighting in the rooms.

Wi-fi coverage was great throughout the building, at full speed, (no payment required for premium connections which is becoming an annoyance in some hotels).

There was some street noise in the early morning, to be expected in this area and not a problem if you are not a light sleeper. There are rooms in the centre of the building that do not have this issue.

This by far the nicest hotel that I have stayed in in Amsterdam and will be back when possible.

Room Tip: Rooms in the centre of the building are quieter but have no view.

My only prior experience with Art'otels was in Budapest, and that one was OK, but not terrific. When I heard they "tweaked" the concept for this new hotel in Amsterdam, I figured I'd give it a shot -- especially because I could use my ClubCarlson points to cover my stay.

We were completely satisfied. The location is perfect if you're arriving by train (across the street), and good if you're not. They took an old building and completely gutted it. The interior is very modern, very artsy, very comfortable and very fun. They also have a nice indoor swimming pool and gym. The rooms are trendy and sophisticated, and the staff is friendly and helpful. As a room tip, it might be worth reserving an executive room, as they are much larger and more interesting than the regular rooms.

The free breakfast is part buffet, part "order the hot foods that you want." Overall, very good. We ate elsewhere, but the restaurant looked trendy -- and crowded -- for dinner (the prices looked pretty affordable for a trendy restaurant, which probably explains the crowd).

The hotel gives you some free salty snacks in your room and, as a ClubCarlson elite member, they also gave us some free wine and water. Very generous, and very appreciated. We also got a modest welcome gift (a USB port).

If, like me, you unfortunately arrive in Amsterdam with a car, the hotel will valet park it for a reasonable 25 euros. You can also park it yourself across the street at the P1 Amsterdam lot for 20 euros if you make an advance reservation.

Overall, the Art'otel is a welcome break from generic, cookie-cutter hotels. They've tried something new and different and it works wonderfully. I'd look forward to returning.
