“Amazing place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

My husband and I stayed in a junior suite at Room Mate Aitana. It was a 10 minute walk from Central Station. We got a corner suite on the 6th floor and wow the views over the water were very lovely. The room had very modern furniture almost modular but lovely bright colours. There was a kraft coffee machine with capsules (similar to Nespresso) capsules were replenished every day. The bedroom was big with a large tv on the wall, the view from the bedroom were also out to the water. Above the bed was a modular headboard which curved to the roof. The bathroom was huge and all white. On the bench were soaps, toothbrushes, shaving kit, hand cream, shampoo etc packaged up so nicely and also replenished every day. The staff at the front desk were great but the lady who helped with bookings could have been a bit more friendly in the end I just asked at the reception. We hired bikes from reception and that worked out well and 5 mins away opposite Central Stn we boarded a boat and went over the other side which was free. We would recommend this Hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: Corner suites are the best with lots of sun and water views.

I stayed in the hotel with my Fiancé, from the 5th to the 9th July and we had a Junior suite. The room was spacious and being on the 12th floor we had a great view of the River IJ and all the passing boats. The room had a handy Nesspresso coffee machine, the only gripe is we kept needing to ring reception for extra cream but I am being very picky! The double bathroom with his and hers sinks were very handy and allowed me to get ready even when my Fiancé was still doing her hair and makeup which meant we could get out to the city at a fairly decent time! The bed was fantastic and very large and we both had the best nights sleep whilst we were there, this was definitely worth the room rate alone! We didn't use the hotel restaurant or bar as we thought the menu was a bit limited, but, this seemed to be normal for Amsterdam, but we didn't come for the food! The hotel is a short walk from the Centraal station and we could walk to Dam square and the Wallen in 15 to 20 minutes which is quite a good way to burn off the beer and cocktails. This was our first time in Amsterdam and we are definitely coming back again and I will definitely stay at the Aitana again!

We paid a lot for this – 163 euro room rate, but it was at peak time in July, even the IBIS or Travelodge type hotels were asking as much. The room was spacious and comfortable with a bath and shower, overlooking the dock in what appears to be a docklands development area behind the central railway station.
One odd thing is that the light switch by the bed also turns off the mains power at the desk, it took us a while to figure out that to be able to boil the kettle for tea.
Access from the station is via a rather narrow path that you share with cyclists, about a five minute walk. A taxi with our suitcase cost 6 euro going there, 9 coming back, I suspect the second guy was not a real taxi, just happened to be outside the hotel and we were in a hurry.
The breakfast is overpriced at 18.50 euro so we had a good breakfast in the Bagels & Beans opposite, for less than half that each.
We decided to have a small meal in the restaurant on the first night because we were tired from travelling and did not want to go out hunting for a place. They had slow service; a simple risotto, a veal dish, side of fries, and two drinks came to 50 euro. I quizzed the person at the restaurant entrance about vegetable options and after avoiding answering she finally bravely said that "we can make it happen". They could not of course, when I ordered boiled or steamed potatoes all I got was fries. The veal dish was just veal (nice in itself) with a scrape of puréed sweet potato. I really must remember to ask on TA before I go on a trip where one can eat a proper balanced meal; all these fries and salads are a lazy serving option, without a balanced meal including vegetables one gets digestion problems. So I still don't know where to eat well in Amsterdam.
Still, we had a luxury room so that part of the deal was OK.
Tip for the evening: the ticket at the Concertgebouw included a tram fare as well as reception and interval drinks.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel in early July 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is an easy 10-15 minute walk from Centraal Station and the major Amsterdam tourist sights are very accessible. Our room had a lovely view of the marina and was quiet, super clean and very comfortable. Staff were pleasant and accomodating and a slight glitch at check-in when our room was not ready at 3 p.m. was quickly sorted out. We did not take breakfast here, but ate instead at the excellent Bagels& Beans across the street for about 8 euros each. We enjoyed Room Mate Aitana and would return.

I stayed here on an overnight layover from Rome back to the US. The hotel is of minimalist design, huge rooms, great bed, and really nice bathroom. Plus, it's right on the water. And was under $200 USD. The entire building is all glass and after 10 days in Rome it was great to be in a spacious, super clean room, that was less than half the cost of my hotel room on Rome.

The location was a little walk but then again it was only 10 minutes from central station and worth it to beg away from the city centre noise! Hotel was immaculately clean and as we had neither dinner or breakfast, I am only qualified to comment on the room and it was really nice. It was clean, minimalist but yet had everything we needed and my goodness, I want to take that bed home!! Need I say more! Would stay again!

This hotel is modern but some of the features are either not good quality or not thought out. We found that for a couple staying for a week it was average. The room we had did not have enough towel rails to hold two bath towels and two hand towels (It would have been ok for one of each). One day we were not issued with clean towels and it took half an hour to get new ones, we were waiting after a day's sightseeing to take a shower. No tissues were supplied. The wardrobe space was enough for one person but a squeeze for two people's clothes for a week. It would have been ok if staying for a weekend or single person on business.

The restaurant was good but as there were conferences during the week and groups at weekend then if you clashed with these in the evening you could wait up to one and quarter hours for starter as we had to on one occasion. The breakfast was good but at €37 for two it was rather expensive for toast and jam! We used to go over the road to 'Bagels and Beans' for an excellent breakfast at a third of the cost with a marvelous view of the ships going up the river.

There was a disco on the Saturday that we were there and thought that we would be disturbed by the noise but we did not hear anything due to the excellent sound proofing. The majority of the staff were very friendly and with one small exception very helpful.

The hotel is a short bus ride from Central Station and despite some of the shortcomings I would consider it again if visiting Amsterdam.
