This delightful retreat is halfway between a private apartment and a serviced bed-and-breakfast, with all the advantages of both. The owners live upstairs, and welcome you with every kind of hospitality and helpfulness, including ample fresh supplies for your breakfasts, However, once you are installed they courteously take great care not to intrude into your space, while inviting you to call them if you need the least assistance. The apartment is modern in style and very clean and well equipped. It is decorated in part with original work by the owner, who is a mosaic artist.
The location is in Jordaans: a slightly seedy but romantic quarter, close to the Anne Frank House. The city centre and the museum quarter are both short tram-rides away. We thoroughly recommend the 24-hr bus and tram smartcards, as services everywhere are numerous and frequent. The nearest stops are 2 mins walk from the apartment.
The owners provide a wealth of local knowledge about restaurants and food suppliers (including home-delivery takeaways), and personally test all their recommendations. Although there are many useful apps for smartphones about transport around the city (e.g.9292); it would be helpful to have some printed details of bus and tram routes as well. Also some visitors might like to know in advance that there is a service bus (197) direct from Schiphol Plaza that stops at Marnixstraat, quite close to the apartment.
