“Sunny sunday drink spot”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

lovely waterside bar by Centraal - a great place for this out-of-towner to get an afternoon drink in the sunshine. Great staff, free wifi, relatively cheap drinks.

“Idyllic place to hang out”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

Great place to hang out with friends! Away from the busy streets, it is a perfect getaway to have drinks, chat, eat, watch the water and just generally relax - especially in the summer! Many come on their little boats to chill out here with friends or colleagues, so if you are looking for a less touristy track, it's definitely worth a visit!

“Go there for a laid-back drink at a location that offers something different”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Hannekes boom is one of my favourite places in Amsterdam to relax and enjoy myself in the sun. Built on the place of an old toll point near the Amsterdam harbour (explaining the name in part) it has the atmosphere of something built by the squatters movement in the seventies, cobbled together of anything they could find. That is not a bad thing. In these times of image-building coffee-shops where locals are trying to make you feel as if you are in SF or Portland, it's nice to meander down the water to Hanneke where everything feels authentic without the need for posing.
The terrace can't be beat for atmosphere and location. Large picnic tables, often shared between sets of people are set out amongst a tree studded cay overlooking NEMO, the VOC ship Amsterdam and the old Navy headquarters. Inside, an enormous wood-burning furnace offers comfort on days when the weather is particularly Dutch.
Serivce is always quick and friendly. Although the lunch and dinner menu are not anything special, consisting of Dutch main staples as sandwiches, salads and meat with fries, its good enough for what Hanneke actually is, a place to put your feet up with friends to drink and converse. The selection of wine is better than usual for the Netherlands and there is enough interesting beer on tap or bottled. They always have the wonderful Vedett which is highly recommended.
Although it is usually crowded enough, I cannot recommend this place enough. If you want something different and have had enough of all the tourists and bustle of Amsterdam, go here, have a glass of something nice and just stare out over the water.

Note: The street continuing eastwards along the water is nice to bike or walk along. Creative houseboat owners have created a small urban paradise which you can enjoy at no cost. Also, although Hanneke has decent gin, the tonic they supply is Kinley which is too sweet for a decent G&T.

“Awesome location for a cold beer outside”
Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

Go here. Outside benches. Loads of fairy lights, great music and views of the canal and area around Amsterdam centraal. The steak was ok, not the best we've had but the atmosphere more than makes up for it.

“Great food & great ambience!”
Reviewed 16 June 2014 via mobile

Met up with friends for a bite and some drinks before sailing out into the canals.
Though a limited menu, it was delicious and fairly reasonably-priced. The waterfront locale is amazing! Makes for a wonderful place to sit & chill with friends and cold beer. Also convenient for sailing in/out of by boat!
A great place indeed.
