“Nice stay and we will come back!”
Reviewed 23 April 2009

We stayed at Blaines B&B with our children (4 and 8 years old) in the loft on the 4th floor (the staircase is narrow, but this seems to be normal for Amsterdam) with direct access to the beautiful roof terrace.

The loft with its private bathroom was the right accommodation for our family and well equipped and comfortable.

The position of B&B is ideal because it is located in a quite street in a nice quarter with restaurants and shops and near the Vondelpark. From the nearest tram station it takes about 10 - 15 minutes to go to the Rijksmuseum or the centre of the city.

An absolute highlight of this B&B is the delicious and very varied breakfast. Peter and Blaine were very helpful and friendly.

If we will stay again in Amsterdam, we will try to come back!

My wife and I had a pleasant stay at Blaine’s B&B at the Park in late July 2006. We found the breakfast to be both very tasty and healthy. The room was nice (a free upgrade provided as our reserved room had been offered to a guest staying for a longer period of time) and the private bathroom a welcome convenience. The host, Peter, was helpful in providing commentary on tourist attractions and the fellow guests were pleasant. While our room was hot during the night, as it is on the second floor, this is a common situation in Amsterdam’s residential buildings during the warm summer months that is rarely avoided and a fan was provided. The B&B’s location is convenient to the main tourist area by foot and close by tram. To get to the B&B from the airport, take a tram or bus into the City, not a taxi, as taxis are significantly overpriced relative to public transport and a tram from the main train station downtown to the B&B is only a 10 to 15 minute ride. My wife and I would return to the B&B again as the reasonable price buys a good quality room and tasty food.

My girl friend and I had the good luck to find a room (the purple one) in Peter and Blaine's BB when everything else in town was full.
Location: 10 min by tram (we took number 2 instead of 1 mentioned above)from the city centre in a nice, quiet and safe neigbourhood.
Owners: We did not met Blaine but just Peter, a talkative, nice and helpful person who was the perfect host in those days.
Room: very comfortable and nice. Ideal for couples.
Rest of facilities: all were OK. Bathroom: big and clean; breakfast room: a very big room with windows at both sides ideal to start openig the eyes in the morning; breakfast: salmon, cheeses, drinks, different kind of breads, croissants, cereals, fruit,... superb indeed.

Very happy with this place, I'd recommend everybody.

Ahh, the city, Amsterdam: very nice if you manage to avoid all the comercial streets which is not possible. All those kebas, pizzeria and shops for tourists breaks the athmosphere that the town could have. Jordaan and other areas are apart of all that comercial stuff and are more enjoyable. Too many people, but hey, all we got the right to visit it....

My wife and I had a most enjoyable three days at Blaine's B&B in Gerard Brandstraat in Amsterdam. What made the stay so perfect was the way we were greeted and treated. Peter who is one of the owners runs the B&B produced a breakfast every morning that energised us for most of the day. The place has everything you need. It is quiet, clean and right on the number 1 tram line. Being only 100 meters from the no.1 tram lstop meant we were within minutes of the city centre and close to all the major attractions. It is very reassuring to know that you are staying in a secure location with such helpful and knowledgeable people.

The highlight of the stay however was our visit to the Seasons restaurant which is located in the Jordan - the old Jewish quarter. Apart from offering a delicious selection on an interesting menu of both food and wine we were able to stroll around nearby streets with fascinating contemporary art and design. Oh by the way Blaine and Peter own the restaurant so if you are staying in the B&B you only pay for one meal!!

We are both looking forward to our next visit.

We have just returned from a weekend at Blaine's B&B in Amsterdam and wanted to post a note about our wonderful stay. We read the previous review and were a little skeptical about the B&B, however after asking a few questions prior to our arrival, which we should say were quickly answered, we decided to book. It should be noted that the other B&B the guys have is located near the Park and they have addressed the concerned points in the previous review. We want to make sure that people are aware that all rooms have locks on the doors and we had no problem with any security concern.

They location is a bit out of the city center but we found this to be an advantage as opposed to a problem. Yes, it took a little bit of time in travel (10 minutes by tram), but the spacious rooms and quietness of the surrounding neighborhood made up for this. Blaine took time to explain things when we arrived and also gave us helpful hints the following morning over breakfast.

We did manage to get to their restaurant and had a wonderful dining experience.

Perhaps Blaine & Peter were busy when getting the restaurant open as mentioned, however it seems they have worked out the kinks. We had a wonderul weekend in Amsterdam and look forward to returning in the Fall.

My husband and I stayed at Blaines B&B at the Park in October 2004 in the Garden Room. The location is nice, a bit far from the city center, but quiet and nice and very near to all public transportation. We arrived and Blaine greeted us and helped us settle in. He gave us a map of the city and recommendations to help get us acquainted with the area. Our room was beautiful, the bed was absolutely wonderful, and the bathroom was nice and clean (A+). The rooms do not lock, so you have to trust your belongings to other guests. This was OK with us, we're usually not too paranoid about this and the rooms have a safe for your valuables. THAT IS, we WERE OK with this until we came home late on our first night to find that someone (we later find out Blaine, one of the owners) left a key in the door. Anyone could have come in and helped themselves to the contents of the house. We mentioned this to Peiter (Blaines partner - also very nice and hospitable) and he said, "oh, yes, those keys are Blaines... sorry." Maybe he did not make a big deal of it because we are such easy going people, but we thought this was a pretty big deal... especially considering we were already trusting our belongings to strangers. We didn't think that meant trusting our belongings (and safety) to all of Amsterdam.

The owners of Blaines B&Bs also just opened a restaurant (Seasons) that they are obviously working hard at. I think that this may be why the guys might not be so on top of things at the moment. Another guest arrived while we had just stopped in to drop off some stuff. She rang the doorbell (which we didn't hear at first) and eventually we helped her in. Had we not been there at that time, she would have not been able to get into her room. She said that they were expecting her, but no one showed up for her arrival. I think that Blaine and Peiter may be spreading themselves too thin at the moment, because all the reviews on their site have been fantasitc.

All in all we enjoyed our stay with Blaine and Peiter. I just wanted to give a "facts only" review so future customers can know what to expect.
