First of all, the room was horrible. The walls weren't even properly painted and outside the window was a great view of maybe 5-year-old cigarette butts. The receptionist was an uptight a-hole and had no trouble telling us that he's not supposed to respect us because we're the guests (?!?!?!) and that after calling my girlfriend stupid, because she said she didn't know it was a family hotel. FAMILY?!?!?! IT WAS FULL OF STONERS and all the time someone was smoking a joint outside...so that's a family hotel?! And you know what? To top it off, he blocked our keycards to our rooms...I guess he wanted to teach us a lesson in his pea-sized, confused and schizophrenic brain of his but as soon as I mentioned the police and stormed out of the hotel, he came back all friendly with 3 new cards. NEVER GO TO HOTEL BARBACAN!!!!!!!!

Could do better if I converted my front room. This place is a death trap. None of the electrics worked, the room was damp and musty and only one window opened as the handles had been removed. The whole place smelt of the large dog which was behind the counter downstairs. If all the park benches are full and you are looking for somewhere to get your head down then consider this
Place otherwise avoid and find somewhere better to stay.

There are some really bad reviews about this place but if you want to spend as little as possible on a place to stay then this hotel is a good cheap option. we spent 4 days here but were out most of the time. The reception and the bar are very nice. The staff were very helpful with info about trams etc. The barman Michael was very nice and recommended some really good places to eat in the plantage. Just round the corner there are tram stops take the 9 or 14 into dam square etc every 7 mins ask for a 24 hour ticket only 7 euros, so a cheap and quick way to get around. The room we had in the hotel was basic but clean. There was a whiff of faulty towers now and then but you get what you pay for. Bring your own hairdryer. the steak house round the corner does the best steak ever!! and the staff are lovely!
