“Unfriendly, dirty, infested "hotel"”
Reviewed 28 February 2013

When we arrived we were "greeted" by a man behind the door titled reception, he peered round the door and asked if we had a reservation. He asked for ID from the 3 of us and shut the door. He returned with our ID and keys for the rooms and said "top floor" hardly a pleasant welcome from the "the nicest and friendliest hotel in Amsterdam" as quoted on their website.

The rooms were tiny, dirty, had exposed wiring, one bed was broken, the window fell off the hinges when opened and we were provided with 2 hand towels in a double room while my friend in the room next to us had bath and hand towels.

The shared "bathroom" was disgusting, it was dirty the door didn't shut properly, the tap in the sink didn't work and the shower was cold.

There is supposed to be WiFi throughout the building however as you go up the stairs it decreases and when on the top floor there is no WiFi at all.

One of the 2 rooms we had booked was infested with bed bugs. When we complained the staff were not concerned by this. We were given another room and this was no better than the first. When we complained again on our check out, we were told that there was nothing she could do and that we could phone the manager tomorrow if we wanted as he didn't work weekends.

I have also now got a bed bug infestation in my own home because we have brought the bugs back with us. I am now having to pay to get my house fumigated.

This is the worse place I have ever stayed.

Room Tip: Do not go to this hotel.

I stayed there with a friend and we weren't to fussy for the price.Didnt expect that much. The staff was really friendly and the bar was quite cool but the fact that there was no cleaning staff was weird. Our room did not get cleaned once during our three day / four night stay.

The location is ideal for a budget hotel though.

The safe was loose and the window handle broken.

No toilet in our room.(Shared bathroom)

At least there were a small tv.

Only stayed for one night. It was really small and the stairs are tiny. I stayed on the top floor where there was only one shared bathroom and i think was 5 rooms. Location was ok. I think for one night it would be alright and only if your going to sleep and then leave. Its a budget hotel so I guess it was alright. The wifi signal didnt make it to the top floor so no internet if you get the top floor.

Arriving at this hotel the bar and reception area is lovely staff really friendly ..then you open the door and its very narrow stairs which wasnt ideal for carrying cases up as we were on top floor so after carrying cases up four flights of stairs we were up in a small room it can only be described as an attic with a double bed and a single one . The room was basic but clean and very warm with only a window to open full which is dangerous if you have children, Also didnt like that had only very small wardrobe and no mirror .The location was good 15 minute walk to amsterdam square restaurants and pubs, The staff member micheal was really helpful and helps us out and gave us good advice. Would only book if you dont mind budget hotels as its ideal for a night or two. This was my first time in amsterdam and I loved it would recommened to get a hotel closer to train station if arriving from airport as we made mistake of getting a taxis which was 70 euros from airport but got train back with was only 4 euros but this hotel is about 40 mins walk from train station

Very small "budget hotel". i stayed on night only so it was acceptable. i'd compare it to an average hostel.
small rooms, shared showers, tiny old building, everything is a bit old. the position is pretty good though to be fair.
book only if you find it really cheap and are looking for something very low end.

To start off with, the staff at the hotel are very nice. However the reception area is just a thick black cloud of cigarette smoke.

The hotel is in an amazing location, close to the zoo, University, and only 15 minute walk to all the action.

The tools are very basic. There are some writings on the wall, stained sheets, and holes in the linen. However, if you think of it more as a hostel than a hotel, you will feel better about your stay.

Room Tip: If you want to shower go to the 3rd level. It at least has a bit of separation between shower and to...
