I was there with a group of colleagues for a conference and it is good for this purpose. Food is good, hotel is efficient. Staff were fine. Design touches are fun but don't add much. Rooms are a triumph of design over utility. Lighting is dreadful. No light near safe - try punching in numbers in the dark. Infuriating! Cold, hard floors. Minimal hanging space for two of us. Outlook is gloomy. And it's miles from Amsterdam. I'd use it if I was doing business next door and was there for one night. Otherwise no way.

As long as you do not mind busing into the City Centre, this Hotel is a joy to stay in.
The bedrooms are very large and the double beds are enormous.
We found the Reception Staff very helpful and what with an excellent breakfast it realy is hard to find fault with this large Hotel apart from it's location.
If you are coming in from the Airport you need the Bus 195 but be aware none of the bus stops show this number - ask for help!

i dealt with 3 diff staff, and not even one was polite. this is shocking. does the management know what is happening with their staff? they dont even look at you when they talk to you, one even sighed when i was asking questions, n looked as if he was annoyed. i was doing the check in, and the staff just threw the pen instead of giving it to me properly. i really hope someone will look into this. even the hostels which ive paid much less has better service than this

After reading the reviews, we were a bit worried about staying here. I think that the way the hotel had been slagged off in previous reviews was just a lack of understanding of Dutch culture. Yes, the distance from Dam central was a 20 minute tram journey but only a 5 minute walk to the tram stop (if you know the cheeky short cut). The staff were pleasant, the rooms spotless, the breakfast (pre paid) was plentiful and the maid service was daily. The room drinks facilities were a bit hit and miss(coffee not topped up) and the drinks at the bar slightly over priced, but that's hotel bars for you. Checking in and out was fast and any questions we had were answered with a smile. We actually found the tram journey in to Amsterdam central quite pleasant during the day but don't miss your return stop at night(scary). Tram no 2 in and out of the Dam and night bus back if you miss the midnight tram back is No 358 from central station. Thankyou to all the staff at Artemis for making our stay a pleasant one.

A mate and I stayed here for the weekend when we went to the Awakenings techno festival. The hotel is minimalist in decor but very spacious, clean and refreshingly arty. In the main areas of the hotel, contemporary art and sculptures sit alongside bespoke pieces of modern furniture to give the place a unique atmosphere. The staff were all helpful and polite without being over the top.

Our room was on the small side but nicely finished. As ever with hotels, a hi-fi wouldn't have gone amiss, but all other facilities were present and correct, including (very expensive) minibar - e.g. €5 for a small Toblerone. The total absence of complimentary biscuits was a little disappointing however, especially after a night taking full advantage of some of the city's more liberal policies.

If you have some time to kill at the hotel, there's a peaceful, Ibiza-esque riverside terrace which is worth visiting if you want to chill out with a drink or two.

Getting to the hotel by public transport from the airport is a struggle - figuring out the myriad bus stops at Schiphol is a task for the brave. Best to jump in a taxi if there's more than one of you - the blue, official looking shuttle bus is €15 per person, so with two persons plus a taxi will work out cheaper.

The Artemis is good value and has bags of character. Although it's a good 4-5 miles from the centre of Amsterdam (€20-25 in a cab), you can get to the action easily by tram or bus during the day. It's in a business district so very quiet at night, but be warned - it's miles from any shops so make sure you load up on essentials at Albert Heijn on your way back from town. Recommended.
