We had a wonderful 5 night stay at the Collector B&B in Amsterdam over the Queen's Day holiday. The location is in a quiet neighborhood, with the tram and bus stop right across the street, and is very convenient to the central area.

We had a large king bed, very comfortable, private bath, which was spotless, lots of towels, and shared access to a balcony which overlooked a quiet yard. The kitchen was well equipped and we made breakfast here each morning with the food Karel provided. There are even fresh eggs from his chickens provided!

A large grocery store isn't far and we shopped for some food which we could leave in the refrigerator in the kitchen. I made dinner 2 nights and enjoyed eating it on the balcony.

The TV had many channels to select from and Karel even washed a load of clothes for us! What a wonderful host. There is a computer on the main level for anyone to use, so it was easy to keep touch with home.

We highly recommend The Collector for a peaceful, homey place to stay while in Amsterdam.

All the reviews are right...this place is the best! My wife and I stayed at The Collector in August 2006 for part of our honeymoon. We stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay for a total of 5 days and found both to be very clean and spacious (especially compared to the tiny London hotel room we had just traveled from). The beds were comfortable and large, and both rooms had access to a shared balcony for enjoying the summer air. Beautiful tiled showers and bathrooms with modern fixtures.

Karel was very helpful with recommendations on restaurants, tours, canal cruises, and directions. Even people that do a lot of research before traveling (as I normally do) will feel more like a local after spending 5 minutes getting some pointers from Karel. The kitchen was always well stocked with bread, cereal, fruit, eggs, etc. and Karel was willing to get any extra items that we wanted to have around.

The location is perfect: south of most of the main attractions, so you're close, but not too close when you need to escape and relax. A VERY short (1 minute) walk to the major museums and some great restaurants and no more than a 10-15 minute walk to all other main attractions to the north. Also, there are multiple tram stops within 1 block of the door if you prefer rails to feet.

It was also great to have access to a computer to email family and friends for free and at our convenience. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone wanting to have a unique and memorable experience. We can't wait to come back!

we had a nice & homely stay in amsterdam this april during the easter weekend in The Collector.Initially we had some misgivings about the do it yourself breakfast but karel assured us people liked it that way in his place & I must say it suited us enormously every day with the loaded fridge entirely at our disposal ! The location was perfect for us, just past museum square in a very quiet street with the tram stop bang oppsite. We were given the 'clock room' to stay, our room was clean, spacious, light & airy with fresh tulips in a vase & karel's collection of clocks & vases. The double bed was big & very comfy. We could'nt have asked for more for the price we payed.Karel was always around , helping us with guides & maps of Amsterdam & the areas that we were interested in.I would definitely give a big thumbs up to The Collector & would recommend it to friends & family.

We stayed at The Collector for 8 days in late March/early April 2007 and were very pleased with our stay. The location was great being a short walk to the Rijks and Van Gogh musems and about a twenty minute walk to pretty much any other place that a tourist would be interested in going. There is also good bus service just outside the door if you overdid yourself trying to see everything. Karel was very helpful in making our stay memorable. He wanted to know what we were looking to see when we were in Amsterdam and gave us a couple of suggestions that were very helpful. As one of the things that we wanted to see was the Keukenhof he recommended that we go in the next few days after arriving as the weather had been warmer and the flowers were pretty much at their peak. We were so happy that we took his advice as the flowers were spectacular - pretty much at their prime. The breakfast arrangement was great. Karel provided all the fixin's and we were left to our own devices to make what we wanted. He asked what we wanted to eat and the next morning there was everything that we requested. Was a real treat having "fresh from the back yard" eggs complete with feathers and birdie doo. Didn't expect fresh eggs in a big city like Amsterdam. The room was immaculate with a great comfortable bed - one of the best that we have slept on when travelling and quiet. We didn't expect to have such a quiet place so close to all the tourist things. As we had issues with smokey places we found it difficult to eat in restaurants. Karel told up where is grocery store was and what would be available to reheat in the microwave. This turned out to be a great solution for us. I would definately recommend The Collector

Just a couple of blocks from the Amsterdam concert hall, and major museums, we had a delightful week staying at The Collector. Karel is an excellent host, ready with suggestions about restaurants and sightseeing. Our rooms were spacious, very clean and comfortable. We liked the breakfast room, stocked with food we prepared ourselves, including eggs from the chickens in the back yard. In the eveningswe had snacks and wine on the balcony outside our room. Karel is a collector of knick-nacks, colorful pins, dutch shoes etc. and his collections decorate the walls of the rooms and hallways.

A great place to stay in Amsterdam - QUALITY, VALUE, LOCATION. A short walk to the art museums; tram to the Central Station stops in front of the building. Very large bedroom with modern bath; all very clean. Guest kitchen accessible at all times. At 110 Euro a night, no hotel could give you this level of accomodation at twice the price. Host there if you need him, but he stays out of your way. Helped us out by doing our laundry! You cannot go wrong here. We will definitely stay again if we make it back to Amsterdam. Thanks Karel.

Our stay at the Collector was great. We had a very large room with very comfortable beds, its own balcony and a well-appointed bathroom. Karl provided fresh flowers for our room and lots of goodies for the do-it-yourself breakfast. Karl is a collector (hence the name) and our teenage daughter especially enjoyed the collections of spoons, clocks, honey jars, and piggy banks. The location is convenient, close to the major museums, and there is a tram stop close by.
