“Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2010

We stayed for four nights at the Collector. Karl is a great host and was very helpful to us in many ways. For example, he obtained tickets for us to the major museums which eliminated standing in long lines. The B&B is very comfortable and well run. We enjoyed our room which overlooked the garden in the back. It was quiet, very clean with a modern bathroom and spacious shower. One of the best aspects of the Collector is its location, easy walking distance to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum, with lots of good restaurants in the neighborhood. Our favorites included the Spanish tapas restaurant nearby and the Greek "Il Kriti, also just a few blocks from the B&B. The lamb stew at Il Kriti was the best we've ever had, and on a rainy cold evening was true comfort food! Another aspect we really appreciated was that public transportation runs to within a few short blocks of the B&B, including the bus to the airport. The Collector is a great choice for comfortable and convenient lodging in Amsterdam.

Cozy, clean, confortable; Amsterdam style, Amsterdam service: live as a Dutch! It is absolutely easy to reach from the airport, with the Red Bus that drops you right in front of the entrance, the Collector is Located in the Museum Area, just outside Amsterdam City Center; a bus and a tram take you to downtown, although walking from the Collector to Amsterdam's Dam Square allows you to see the best of the house-street-canal-street-house carousel that makes Amsterdam the "Venise of the North". Nice front door framed with ivy, you go in and the insanely-steep typical Ducth stairs take you up to the rooms: the bedrooms are very cozy, clean, comfortable; the kitchen is Dutch style, full of Dutch cheese, just if you want to eat Ducth and feel like a Dutch for the entire time of your stay. Finally you will be pleased by the two very special features: the collections that fill the whole house and the collector himself. For us, there will be no more Amsterdam without The Collector.

We spent 7 nights at the Collector in June 2010 and enjoyed our stay immensely. Karel is a very helpful and efficient host and gave us lots of useful information and tips as to the best areas to visit and also those to avoid. The B&B is conveniently located in a nice residential area, just down the road from the Concert Hall and within 10 minutes walk of the main museums and park. The tram stop is right outside and the No. 16 will take you through central Amsterdam to the train station in about 15 minutes. We found that we could sightsee all morning, jump on the tram back to the Collector for lunch and then set out again for the afternoon. We were lucky to have the very spacious front room, which is very light and airy and has a small balcony overlooking the street. This room has an interesting collection of small clocks and a simple white and black décor with a unique, curved ensuite bathroom. The room was very clean and Karel provided new towelling slippers, fresh, fluffy towels each day and beautiful, fresh tulips in the vase at all times. We had full use of the very well equipped kitchen, which Karel kept stocked with lovely fresh breads and buns, cereals, milk, cheeses, coffee and fresh fruit, so that we could prepare our own breakfast at our leisure each morning. There are supermarkets within easy walking distance, so it's no problem to buy the ingredients to prepare your own meals if you wish. We found Karel's B&B to be very functional, in that we had the privacy of our own area, but also had the opportunity to meet and chat with guests from other parts of the world as we wandered in and out of the kitchen at breakfast time.
There is also a small office area downstairs where you can use the computer to access the internet and printer.
Thank you, Karel, for a very enjoyable stay.
Ian and Davina

We stayed at the Collector for 3 nights in late September 2010 and loved it. The room was clean, spacious, modern, uncluttered and very comfortable. Great food in the kitchen which you can help yourself to at any time. We arrived earlier than expected in the morning and woke the owner up. He was gracious and accommodating. (You do get a little bit of street noise in the front room, but it wasn't too bad.)

The location is great (just a few minutes walk to museums and right on a tram stop) and the price seemed very reasonable. Highly recommend it and would stay here again if I'm lucky enough to visit Amsterdam another time.

Great location as it's within walking distance to the main musemums and one can get to the dam square, cuypmarket or central station via tram 16 (about 15-20 mins). The owner, Karel's great! He showed us to our rooms and how to use the shower/kitchen/etc. We are free to eat anything from the kitchen for breakfast. The room was spacious with towels suplied. It was also nicely decorated with a big and comfy bed! Infact, the whole house was done tastefully and uniquely. One thing was the steep stairway, which we need to be careful when we were carrying our luggage down. Karel was also nice enough to allow us to leave our lugguage at the ground level after checkout. :)
