The booking was a combined air-ticket/hotel package and what tipped the balace towards this hotel was price/location and of course their reputation. I had also seen some reviews and was satisfied with what I read so decided to give it a try.
And know what? I was not dissapointed. Although a bit of a longer walk than I expected from Centraal station - the free shuttle currently only operates until 19.30 hrs due to refurbishment works at the station, it was still no more that 15-20 minutes depending on your pace.
The reception staff were pleasant ad welcoming and eager to give information and advice.
The room was a real winner; great comfy bed, generous space, safe, clean and modern bathroom, free (albeit a bit slow) wi-fi which I find useful mainly because I can use Skype to communicate with home - beats roaming charges and horrendously steep international rates from hotels. Main reason I look for hotels that offer free wi-fi.
Rest of facilities very nice as well, decent restaurant-bar with reasonable prices for drinks and food. Breakfast was delicios and offered great variety. Gym, basic but appropriate and two saunas were well maintained.
Only drawback, but this I was aware of, and quite honestly, it's not the end of the world; the hotel is not neccesarily bang in the city centre, but hells bells be adventurous! use the free half-hourly shuttle into Centraal Stn which takes all of 5 minutes or the 261 tram across the road.
All in all, a very pleasant 2 night stay and would highly recommend it.

The Movenpick is abit of a walk from the train station but it is worth it for the fab views and exellent service. There is a mini bus service twice an hour( which is free) from the hotel to the station and vice versa Our room was on the 9th floor and the view was really good. Our package included breakfast which was exellent, Reception and Restaurant staff were faultless.

We stayed at the Moevenpick in February 2011 and found it to be a very good hotel.

We got the train from the airport as the train station is very near the hotel. Once we got out of the station, it took between five and ten minutes to walk the short distance to the hotel (you need to cross the road outside of the station towards the bike park and take a right).

Check in was speedy, pleasant and efficient. The rooms were spacious clean and had a great view - the windows are huge! We got room only here, we didn't have breakfast, nor did we eat in the Silk Road Restaurant for dinner. The room had a mini bar in it, which we used the fridge to store juice and fruit in for breakfasts as it wasn't electronically monitored.

When we arrived, we went out to explore. We left the restaurant and carried on walking to the left for about 10 minutes, however there wasn't much down that way - the only thing we found of interest was Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant. If you go to the right upon leaving the hotel, and carry on walking you get back to the train station. If you walk through the train station, you get into the centre of Amsterdam.

There is nothing much in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, there was a gallery type shop and a segway shop, but both were hardly open while we were there. The train station has a decent convenience store inside that you can get various foods and refreshments from, and it also has various take away outlets: you can get a sandwich or pastries, pasta and pizza, noodles, etc. Most places have a few tables inside, but they are mainly take out outlets rather than restaurants. The Pizza place was very good, it was always busy and the pizza was always piping hot and fresh (you buy it in slices).

Overall, the hotel was very good, it was clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. The staff are friendly, helpful and polite. It would be great for a business trip or for couples who don't mind staying out of the hustle and bustle of the city. It is in a good location, not far from the city centre and close to the train station (easy access for the airport).

We would stay here again if we visited Amsterdam in the future.

Room Tip: We had a room that was on quite a high floor, and it also faced the direction of the train station...

Lovely modern room with a very comfy bed, wall-mounted TV and tea/coffee facilities. I had a wonderful view of the city from my room on the 12th floor. Trams 25 and 24 (?) stop opposite the hotel and stop at the station and further into the city. There aren't really any 'local' facilities such as bars or restaurants immediately close to the hotel, but nothing is far from anywhere in Amsterdam. Don't walk up the large ramp to get to the hotel reception; you need to wallk to the ground floor entrance!

I think this is a business geared hotel. We spent bank holiday August here. Requested see view room high up and the hotel provided. You get fantastic views, and its also cool seeing the large cruiseliner ships port up next door.

Hotel feels new. Its about a 15-20 minute leisurely walk from town centre. We found the tram service quick, efficient, and very frequent - it takes five minutes to get to hotel and city centre. Hotel provided excellent customer service. They let me access the restaurant terrace to have a drink under the stars (this was closed because of the rain) with candle light with the wife....I swear we saw a shooting star......quite romantic. Hotel is close to Jamie Olivers Fifteen resturant.

During our stay, it rained continuously. when we checked out, we had time for excursion. We got absolutely drenched. when we returned to the hotel to collect our luggage, the staff were kind enough to let us use their spa facilities (sauna/hot shower) and change into dryer clothing. I am really thankful for that service, especially after we checked out.

Thank you Moevempick

We were only in town for 3 days (2 nights) and I got pneumonia whilst there, so one full day was spent in bed. The TV's didn't work in both rooms. We moved to another room the 2nd night since TV didn't work (were upgraded to a suite) and one of the TV's in the 2nd room didn't work. Hopefully, that problem will get straightened out shortly. The staff tried their best to find solutions, but this complaint was nothing new.

The hotel itself was very nice and I loved the views and being able to watch a ship dock. Ordered room service and the food was fine. I think if the weather had been nicer, it would have been a much better walk to the center - we didn't take the tram as we like to walk - in hindsight, we should have gotten tram passes.

All in all, if I got this hotel again on Priceline, I would be pleased. FYI - the day I was sick was a horrible weather day - the windows/building can withstand much wind!!

Dear TZMOM,

First of all, I really hope you read this answer in good health! I am sorry that you will also remember us as the hotel where you had pneumonia. Thank you for the positive comments and I would like to give you feedback on the one regarding the TVs: We are very proud to have installed brand new flat-screen, HD, low energy use LED TV's in all of our 408 rooms. Each suite has indeed now also two TV's. That some are not working are remaining teething problems that such a project can have, we are in general very happy to be able to provide an even larger choice of tv stations (Including the very much requested sport channel ESPN), radio stations, pay movies and options to watch you favorite programmes that you missed.

Hopefully we can count you amongst our guests again very soon,

Best regards,

The Hotel Manager

only 1 tram stop from city centre and free shuttle from Cetraal station make this hotel a great deal and far better than the rip off city centre location so called 4 and 5* hotels.

took advice from previous reviewers and ordered room service for breakfast we paid 10 euros for 1 omelette and a crossant and jam( buffet breakfast was 23 euros!! although most hotels in Amsterdam have very similar charging policies) didn't order tea or coffee at 6 euros per pot. used the in room tea/coffee maikng facilities.

Paid 270 euros for 3 nights and would have cost nearly 500 euros for the park plaza hotel just 1 tramstop away!! a good saving as your money doesn't go very far in Amsterdam.

Dear Tobycaesar,

Thank you for your review and you are indeed very streetwise. We applaud guests who make use of the many promotions we place out there, we like to believe we reserve the best welcome for everybody and that our quality as well as our location is appreciated by many.

I would like to point out that comments about how expensive the buffet breakfast can be do abound, and I mean not only for Amsterdam, not only for our hotel, this is the most recurring comment one can witness on all review sites. While we also serve a light breakfast formula in our lobby bar, we do believe that our buffet breakfast in the Silk Road restaurant offers excellent value for the requested 23 EUR, with one of the largest variety to be found in Amsterdam.

We understand not everybody wants it, and we do appreciate your tip!

Thank you for your stay with us and we are looking forward to welcoming you again!
