“Not What I Would Call City Centre”
Reviewed 15 October 2012

This hotel is not what I would call city centre though it was easy enough to walk to what appeared to be the hub of Amsterdam. Hotel was decent and we had a lovely view as we were on an upper level. At night when all the lights were on it was beautiful. Rooms where a large size and comfortable. Bathroom was decent as well.

Stayed here as part of a tour and when we arrived they had not orgnaised all the room keys and didn't appear to care. There were 39 peope waiting in the lobby for 20 rooms and they had to code all the keys. They ignored our tour director for sometime and then kept making excused as to why they were not organised. It was a good 15 minutes or so before someone decided they needed to do something and started coding the keys. Otherwise I didn't have much contact with the service staff so can't really comment.

The rooms where comfortable and clean. We only stayed for one night but it was adequate.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay in our hotel, indeed located just outside the busy city centre (with excellent connections to the Central Station) in a quiet area on the banks of the river IJ.

We have duly noted your remarks with regard to the check in of your group and have passed this information to the Front Office Manager in order to avoid such experiences in the future.

We hope you have had a great vacation and hope to be able to welcome you again next time you visit Amsterdam.

With kind regards,

Daniel Kaan

Remember the theme song from "Cheers", the American sitcom in the 80s-90s "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" . That is what it felt like when my wife and I stayed there last month. Prior to our trip I emailed Mr. Kaan, the hotel manager about things to do in Amsterdam because we were first time visitors. Upon our arrival he personally came down and greeted us which started things off on a positive note. Because we were early he offered us tea/coffee while our room was prepped. They make excellent coffee at the hotel. The hotel is conveniently located near the Central Terminal. It was probably a 5-10 minute walk at most but because you are on the harbour, the walk was very pleasant. Keep your head up for cyclists because Amsterdam being a progressive city has many of them. If you like to see cruise ships the hotel is also part of the Cruise Ship terminal which made viewing the mooring procedure for these large ships quite a spectacle.
The rooms were clean and most important the showers were hot with lots of pressure. We ate at the restaurant and lounge and found the food good and the pricing comparable to other hotels. All of the staff including Mr de Vos, the concierge were friendly and helpful. Mr. de Vos gave us suggestions on the top highlights of the city because we were only there for three days. The hotel does offer a free transport service to and from Central Terminal and that worked well when we arrived and departed. I would recommend taking the train from Schiphol Airport to Central Station and then using the hotel van to pick you up, It is by far the least expensive as opposed to taking a taxi. Phone ahead to reserve your time. All in all, clean, convenient and friendly staff, what more could you ask for?

Room Tip: Contact Mr de Vos, the concierge for places to visit and things to do. He was most helpful

This is a modern, good hotel and cheaper than equivalents 20 minutes away. It is centrally located near Centraal Station, so easy to find.

Breakfast is high quality and costs €17 if pre-booked, €23 otherwise. Pineapple chunks are of fresh pineapple.

View of river is very good as hotel is tall.

Everything else as you would expect from a good hotel, with no faults/whinges that I can list.

The one disadvantage is that if you walk from Centraal Station to hotel it's 20 min uphill on a bridge, so whilst good exercise not nice if you're tired/lazy. There is a tram that runs along the same route which I was too impatient to ever get except on last day when I had luggage. There is actually a conductor in an office on the tram who sells tickets - worth taking tram just for this novelty (- also if lazy!).

Taxis are always available at hotel but the run to Centraal Station is too short for them to do.

Finally, Amsterdam museums etc close early to suit staff i.e. 5pm so get there early.

Dear Business Traveler,

Thank you for your positive feedback with regard to your stay in our hotel. We are happy you enjoyed being with us.

As an alternative to the tram, please consider our shuttle service that runs every half hour to/from the Central Station. Booking in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment as the bus can only carry eight passengers and their luggage.

We hope to welcome you again next time you travel to Amsterdam.

With kind regards,

A very modern hotel with a stunning view on the "Ij", a vast expanse of water where the large cruise ships come docking. Ideal for business seminars, a bit less so for tourists as the hotel is a bit far from the old Amsterdam city center. Very close to the rail station, if you're not to heavily packed, you could skip the courtesy bus service of the hotel and walk all the way to the hotel.
Very clean rooms and restaurants.
A very good hotel for visiting Amsterdam except if you're looking for a typical Dutch architecture and ambience
One disadvantage : there are only four lifts. It can take some time to use them if many people are waiting.

Room Tip: the higher up your room is, the more stunning the view gets.

Modern, clean hotel with fantastic views of the river and skyline. Watched the sunset out of our 16th floor window. The hotel is constructed so that all the rooms seem to have river views (not sure about the lower floors). Very quiet. No noise from inside or outside. Adjacent to cruise port and very close by to the river boat docks. Large room. Refrigerator for guest's use rather than a mini bar. The hotel offers a shuttle which runs every 1/2 hour to Central Station. This was a huge plus. You must book it in advance as it only holds 8 people. We used it every morning and every evening. We also booked it to get to Central Station on our departure day, and we were the only ones on it. The last shuttle runs at 7:30 pm. We got back to the hotel either by walking (20 minutes from Central Station) or by a tram which is one stop from Central Station. The hotel offers discounts for staying multiple nights. Our 4 night stay at 40% off, was exceptional value, and far outweighed the fact that the hotel was a bit out of the way from Central Station and Dam Square. If there was not such a major price difference, I would probably stay nearer to the center which would be more easily accessible to all the sights. We purchased the "I Amsterdam" card for 48 hours which included free transportation, as well as free museums.
Hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

spent 4 nights here in August.

got the train for a small fee from the airport which took us to the train station. the back of the train station you can follow the tram lines to the hotel. There is also a tram from the station which takes you to a stop across from the hotel. The hotel also run a magnificent courtesy bus service which runs every half an hour but has only space for 10 so book asap.

The hotel is located just the right distance away from the hustle and bustle of the centre (mind the bikes). It is also perfectly located if youre on a cruise ship.

The room was absolutely huge, it also had a sofa, a great view of the cruise ships, a massive bathroom and some spacious extras. The hotel had a superb bar and restaurant which were both pricey but this is Amsterdam so get used to it!

absolutely every member of staff were top class, couldnt fault any part of the hotel and they catered to every need, well worth it highly recommended but maybe have dinner elsewhere, although the service and food cant be faltered it is pricey (7 euro for a jug of water). The breakfast is also extremely pricey so maybe look elsewhere there though i will say it is good service and food.

Loved it and if i go back to amsterdam I will stay here, you should too!

Room Tip: dont forget to get the shuttle bus back from the train station and you can also book this to go the...
