My son was taking part in the Amsterdam marathon 2013 and I decided to go along to cheer him on. I booked the Moevenpick after extensive research on TripAdvisor and I was not disappointed. The location is great, so close to Central Station, and in addition I found the shuttle service very useful. My room was comfortable and clean and I really liked the large ensuite bathroom. More than anything though, I have to comment on the friendliness of the staff - from the reception staff to the Concierge, the waiters and even the lady in the gift shop, everybody was so friendly and helpful and their attitude really enhanced my stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody and I hope it will not be long before I return for another visit. Thank you!

This is a pretty hotel and the food is very good. The rooms are well appointed and decent sized. Unfortunately the hotel suffers some service problems.

The wait staff in the restaurant and bar are very slow. In the week we were there we ate three meals in the hotel. Actually getting a waiter to come to the table to take drink or food orders was very difficult. All three times we waited over 45 minutes for our food. More than half the orders came out wrong the first time and a few were still wrong the second time they were served. However, the fact that the food is worth wait and, since the company was good, we would not have noticed the wait if we weren't so hungry.

The front desk staff were spotty. All of them tried their best to help and were friendly. However, one or two of them clearly didn't know what they were doing and refused to ask anyone else behind the counter for assistance when it was necessary. They also tended to answer questions that they should have referred to the concierge or other employees and this occasionally led to the wrong information being received.

The concierge staff was also hit or miss. One of the concierges knew everything (really) and his advice was perfect. A couple others were very good also. Another gave me incorrect directions twice and there was a fourth that was completely useless and not helpful at all. Additionally, the concierges were not always available when needed as they were frequently away from the desk for long periods of time to drive the shuttle bus.

Lovely location for hotel. Room not ready, we arrived before " guaranteed 3pm". Had a lovely lunch in the bar. Room ready about 1530!!. When I had booked the hotel, via travel company, I had requested a room on the higher floors and had noted that it was my sisters special birthday (no mention of this). Put on 5th floor, lowest, with views of office opposite. No soap in bathroom, half a tiolet roll. Room for three, two towels in room. On leaving hotel for centre, we asked for further towels. On arriving bk to room , no towels in room. Took another phonecall.
Lovely concierge recommended and booked a dinner in town for my sisters birthday.
Asked to book a meal in hotel restaurant, with views, and was told no table could be guaranteed quite rudely by head waiter. 2nd day again only towels for 2 people, took 2 phonecalls to get 3rd towel. On returning from day bout in centre, room was not cleaned at 5pm. This did not happen till 1830. Again had to go and ask for more towels!!! Very quiet hotel at night.

Location a bit out of the way as my meetings were at RAI, but nonetheless a beautiful hotel. Facilities and rooms were modern clean and efficient. the breakfast area was phenomenal in that it catered to efficient quick meal or a lingering stay.

I would have liked to know that there was a shower and changing area in the fitness lounge- as I arrived early from an international flight and had to wait in the lobby as my room was not available. A quick shower and change would have allowed me to explore Amsterdam a bit prior to getting my room.

Excellent hotel. Shuttle bus from Central station to hotel worked very well. Had a room on 20th floor with amazing views. Breakfast was excellent and the room was a great size with excellent shower. Tram stop very close to hotel and with a tram pass this was a great idea.
Sadly no obvious means of recycling paper or plastic bottles. Smokers tend to congregate round front door which was unpleasant.

Great location, just 10minutes walk from the station and the town centre. Hotel acknowledged our wedding anniversary which was really nice, as we had come from Paris where my husband had celebrated his 40th and the hotel in Paris did not acknowledge it. Friendly staff, nice big rooms. If you can eat at the hotel as the food was to die for. Overall if I went back to Amsterdam I would stay at this hotel.
The only thing missing was a swimming pool and the sauna was meant to be unisex and a man decided to go in naked. Other than this, I would recommend staying at this hotel.

We arrived in Amsterdam after a few days in Paris for a couple nights stay before catching our Rhine River cruise. The Movenpick Hotel is a short walk from the train depot and is only a few minutes from where the cruise ships dock. It was very convenient for us to walk our bags over to the ship when we were ready to board. The hotel is also conveniently located near the tram line. Our stay at the Movenpick was excellent. We were warmly greeted by the staff who were very helpful in providing us with directions and details for us to get around Amsterdam. We were given the option of upgrading our room to an Executive Suite and when we realized what it included, it was worth doing for the breakfast buffet, internet service and use of the Executive lounge. Our room had an excellent view of the harbour and was quiet and comfortable. We ended up having dinner in the lounge while we were there. The food and service was excellent. We would gladly stay there again on our next visit to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher levels are quieter.
