“Nice place, exceptional staff make the difference”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2013

Stayed for a long weekend (concert at Ziggo Dome) with my lovely wife.

Arrived at around 09.00 having been travelling since 4.00am, hoping for an early check-in but unfortunately not available. Told that guaranteed check-in would be 3.00pm. No problem. Went for a walk and got back for just after 1.00pm, needing a snooze..... Still no room.

Waited in the lounge and at 2.58 we got our room! This was the only disappointment.

Difficult to believe that the room only became available at this time in such a big hotel.

Breakfasts really, really expensive. They looked good but much, much better value in town (Broodje Bert, Singel). Anyway, gripes over.

Room was good, very clean with great views. Quiet aircon, smart bathroom, comfy bed.

Hotel operates a shuttle every 30 minutes to Centraal station. Have to book as it gets popular. There's a tram stop over the road - worth considering a GVB OV Kart - 7E for 24h travel on trams / Metro and buses.

Staff - particularly the two concierge chaps (Christopher and ?) - are so friendly and helpful - a real credit to the business. Great english speakers too.

Final gripe - nearly forgot:

Checking in - one check-in desk with one person and quite a queue of guests. A barriered section was allocated to departing guests with 3 staff...... with nobody waiting to check out!

Asked if we could check-in there but not allowed. Why? No-one waiting to check-out. This was quite infuriating.

Summary - very good but could so easily be an awful lot better.

Room Tip: Go high for great views

Dear tickingaway,
Thank you very much for sharing your extensive feedback with us, we hope your concert at the Ziggo Dome has been enjoyable. We are pleased to read you appreciated most of our facilities and in particular the service of our Concierge staff. Compliments have been passed on to them already. I read your comment with regards to having an early check in. We do our utmost to give our guests an early check in, when availability allows. During the weekends we are often fully booked and therefor it is not always possible to have an early check in. The alternative for having a secured early check in is to reserve the night prior to the early arrival.
Please be assured your mentioned points regarding the waiting queue have aour attention and will have a follow up within our teams.

Anytime you visit Amsterdam, we hope you will stay with us again.

Kind regards,
Daniël Kaan

We have been going to Amsterdam for many years now and had become fed up with twee, quaint, unusual hotels with stairs that resembled ladders and rooms where we had to dodge around furniture and spend ages looking for a switch to turn on/off a particular lamp. We decided, this time, to go for a modern hotel with decent space and comfort and where we weren't woken up by the sound of church bells.

We got a good deal with the Mövenpick. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The views from the upper floors on the "city-side" were excellent. We were given a comfortable and quiet room with great beds. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant for dinner on the first evening, but didn't feel like paying over €20pp for breakfast during our stay, so we cannot comment on it. It was great to have tea & coffee-making facilities in the room and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly everywhere in the hotel.

The hotel is just a little bit far from the city-centre to walk every day. However it is only 5mins and one tram stop away. Also, one can avail of the free shuttle to the train station. Just check with the concierge for times and book a seat. The cleaning service was not 100% up to standard. The bed was thrown together on the first morning and teas & coffees were not replaced. When we asked reception to replace them, they had obliged when we got back from our day's visit. We will certainly return.

Room Tip: Upper floors on the city side have the best views.

Please be assured this has our attention and will be further investigated.

A great view overlooking the harbour, seeing everything from huge cruise ships to water taxis come in and out.
It was a good location near the train and tram terminal too, which meant it was quiet at night, great for sleeping! A ten minute walk to central station, 15 minutes to the centre of Amsterdam or a free shuttle from the hotel to the station.
The hotel is modern, well appointed and comfortable. Staff were friendly and approachable and multi-lingual so enormously helpful.
Enjoyed our stay and the excellent train service in and around Amsterdam which allowed us to set our own itinerary for sightseeing.

This Amsterdam hotel was chosen for us as our take off point for a Viking Rhine River cruise. Our room was clean and spacious with a nice view over the water. The Wi-Fi worked. The breakfast buffet was exceptional in its variety of choices and the quality of the food. While its proximity to the cruise ship departure point was ideal, the location of this hotel was not ideal for the two days prior to cruise departure when we were attempting to visit the museums, restaurants and sights in downtown Amsterdam. It was a long walk back to the hotel from the tourist areas of the city. We passed a lot of high quality hotels closer to the city's "action" on our walk back to the Moevenpick. Although the hotel was excellent I would not choose it again based on its location if I were coming to Amsterdam as a "non-cruising" tourist.

We took the courtesy bus from the back of central station to the hotel (ring reception to book for free also to check times and availability)but it is only a short walk and you can see the hotel from pick up point. On arrival the staff were very welcoming and helpful . The standard rooms we had were really good with fantastic views over the city and river. However there was only a few coat hangers available and no shower gel in the bathroom. I also had to ask for extra pillows but none of this was a problem for the staff.
Took some time and another phone call to customer services but they were delivered to our room by a very apologetic and polite member of staff.
the hotel is nicely located , clean with a lovely reception area. there is also a sauna and fitness center to use.would definitely use and recommend this hotel again.
Negative side was there was a lot of late night noise on the Friday and Saturday nights/early morning from the building next door with thumping rave type music. don't know if its always like this ?
I would advise anyone staying for any length of time in Amsterdam to get a GVB ticket which allows you to travel round the city on trams/buses and metro. This is a must and will save your feet! choose your location get tram / get off tram then walk and explore the different areas otherwise you could find yourself wandering around aimlessly and lost.
There is a tram stop a few of minutes walk over the road from the hotel which will take you to the station where you can take other trams from.

Room Tip: room upgrades are advisable and the higher you go the better the view.!!

Dear Jeb81,
Thank you for sharing your extensive and positive travel experience with us, this is much appreciated. Our hotel being located on the banks of the river "IJ" gives you beautiful views and usually a peaceful night rest. Unfortunately this has not been the case while you were our guest, due to the Amsterdam Dance Event having their parties next door of our hotel. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this caused you, and are happy to inform you this usually is once a year.
Our hotel has different starting options for exploring Amsterdam; please contact our staff.

Should you plan your next visit to Amsterdam, we hope you will stay with us again.

If you want the hub-bub of the very centre of Amsterdam the Movenpick isn't your hotel. However, if you want some peace and quiet in a pristine, immaculately presented and run hotel on the water's edge then you'll be very happy here. The service and food were both excellent and the bedroom was very comfortable

Room Tip: It goes without saying the higher you are the better the view

Five Star Experience, about a 15 minute walk from the town centre, but there is a tram outside the door which goes quickly to the station. Cannot fault the hotel. Breakfast wasn't included with our booking. We stayed as a couple with one child, and the sofa bed given was comfortable. We made the mistake of parking in the underground carpark to the hotel initially, as we had arrived a little too early to check in, then went for a stroll. When we did check in they gave us all the details for an off site car park about 15 min tram ride up the road. A few hours in the underground car park cost about £35, so find out about the off site one as soon as you get there!
Also, the deal for the off site car park is tram ticket + parking = a combined price We bought the tram, then went to pay the parking on leaving and they wanted to charge us DOUBLE the advertised price. Turns out the cheap parking deal is only valid when you purchased your tram ticket FROM the car park. I cried at him, he let us off.

Dear xteamawesomex,
Thank you very much for sharing your extensive and positive feedback with us. Your 5 star rating for our hotel is much appreciated and encouraging for us! We have read your comments regarding the public car parking "Piet Hein" garage below the hotel. We agree it is a lot of money and are still working on lower parking fees for our guests with the local authorities, who own and rule the garage. The alternative we give, the "P&R" at Zeeburg, is indeed 3 tramstops away from our hotel. If guests inform at our Front Desk we supply them with a map and indications, as well as the information to achieve the tickets at the "P&R" (meaning: park and ride). We are sorry to hear this has not been clear for you. Should you stay with us again, and for our future guests: more information can be found on our own website.

Thank you again, we hope to welcome you again soon.
