“Nice Hotel”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

The Moevenpick Hotel is a wonderful hotel. It's clean, very new, and they pride themselves on service. It is close to the train station and and they run shuttles to Centraal. We got Moevenpick because they accepted our bid on www.priceline.com. The views were wonderful and the gym was nice as well.

The only downside to the hotel is that it can be a bit of walk to City Centre. It's located on this weird inlet/dock thing (I assume so it can be close to cruise travelers) and is kind of weird to walk to. Once you figure it out, it's fine. I'd stay there again.

We stayed two nights in this property at the end of a Viking River cruise. The hotel is very convenient to the cruise terminal and is a hub for Viking and Avalon cruises. After a disappointing stay in our precruise hotel, we got smart and upgraded to the Executive level, which was worth it. We were on the 19th floor in a spacious room with a beautiful view. In room nespresso maker, complimentary mini bar, robes and even an iron made the stay nicer than if we'd been in a lower level room. Wine and hors d'oeuvres and a private breakrast room also added to the tranqulity, which given we were in Amsterdam was appreciated.
The hotel is a bit of a hike into the old town via a not so scenic route. Be wary of broken glass along the way -- it seemed that the party, whereever it started, was a good one for whoever went a bit nuts along the road.
The hotel is also convenient to the trams and Central station -- if you are able to walk well. In our group was a gentleman in a wheelchair and he and his wife struggled with that chair on the uneven stones and steps. After an initial walking tour they opted for other transport -- the area is NOT accessible for those with handicaps, though the hotel does have a shuttle. Just be sure to make a reservation for it because it fills.
Overall pleased enough to leave a good review, but if we're ever back in Amsterdam might stay in a more classic, old world style place with more elegance.

Room Tip: Upgrade to Executive level for better quality room, better views, and better amenities.

Overall a very good hotel. Our first impression was the hotel shuttle service from the train station, which was really friendly and efficient. Just ring reception once you've arrived at Centraal Station.

Staff were courteous and informative when we checked in, and our room was clean and spacious. We got a nice view of the harbour and cruise ships too. Later in our stay we also used room service and the food arrived really quickly. Wifi was also fast (and we used the free version, which was supposed to be the slowest!)

We had a three person room but some things were only provided for two (e.g. tea and coffee, cups), it took a few attempts of asking for extra facilities, but they were provided in the end! A minor point was the thin bathroom door, which didn't actually shut properly, this was due to the minimalist glass design. Not a big deal, but a little weird!

Breakfast is also really expensive here (around 26 euros each), so you're better off heading for a nearby cafe in the mornings.

Finally, it's about a 10-15 minute walk into Amsterdam town centre. There's not much near the hotel itself, so if you don't mind the walk then it's fine. You can also get the no.6 tram which is very frequent and only takes about 2 minutes to the station. On the plus side, the quiet location meant we always got a good night's sleep .

For the four star quality, it's great value for money if you're prepared to stay a bit outside of town (and go elsewhere for breakfast!)

We stayed in this hotel in amsterdam for a weekend it was absolutely fabulous only 5-10 min walk from train station and just on the edge of the city the only thing missing was a leisure facility. The rooms were gorgeous had brilliant view of the sea & city had iron fridge coffee and tea. vending machines on every floor.
The reception staff were so lovely and friendly we had a bit of a laugh with them would definately reccomend this hotel and would stay again.

We didn't mind Moevenpick Hotel. It is a very nice and clean hotel that is about 10-15 mins walk from the main station however, there is not much around the area.

Pros:

-Service is good where we were provided with a room with an excellent view
-As previously mentioned, it is very clean and spacious
-There is the option of renting bikes to get into the centre faster
-I believe there is a tram/metro that is available to the very front of the hotel; however, you must clarify with the hotel as we did not use this function

Cons:

-It is quite far from the centre of Amsterdam (Imagine a night out and walking back i.e. to use the washroom)
-Breakfast is expensive at the hotel; therefore, going into town for breakfast is a bit of a hassle
-We requested a double bed but two beds are pushed together to make it as one (unclear if this is the norm in Europe)
-Other than what the hotel provides and a small deli down the street, there are not many options for eating or drinking or smoking

Due to its distance... I would recommend staying closer to the city centre to get a good feel of Amsterdam. However, if you are looking for a place that has more of a residential feel and is located away from the "chaos" then this place is for you.

Room Tip: Once you leave the main station (you will be facing the heart of Amsterdam), make a left and keep go...

We liked the hotel and have no complaints, however it is kind of on the edge of the city by the river. It's new and that is typically a good think, however there are so many older classic hotels in the city center, we kind of wish we would have selected one of those for our first trip here.
