“too far away from mostly everything you want to see”
Reviewed 25 November 2009

Nice, clean, functional hotel. Comfortable bed, great view, and the best instant coffee I have ever had. The shower was one of those funky, no door, hand held shower head type numbers that always seems to get the floor wet, but that could just be me. If you are sharing a double room with someone, you should know that the bathroom doors are frosted glass and may not offer the privacy you require. The front desk was friendly if not overly helpful. I had drinks and snacks in the bar one night. The drinks were good, but the snacks, some guacamole and chips, were average, and the service was a bit slow. Here’s the major problem and I know it has been mentioned before, but you really, really need to consider it before you stay here: you are a good ten minute walk from anything in the parts of Amsterdam you want to see. At least ten minutes along a path on the water. See the photo I attached. There was no stopping by your hotel room mid-day, resting your feet, using the lavatory or dropping off packages. Once you left for day, you didn’t want to go back and once you were in, you just don’t feel like going back out again. There are no restaurants, clubs, stores, anything nearby except Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, the new concert hall. (Tip, if you are staying at the Movenpick, you can walk up the footbridge to the concert hall and then walk down a few flights of steps to get to the entrance of the hotel. Otherwise, you actually have to walk by the hotel to get to the front and that just exacerbates your annoyance.). My other tip is to stock up on snacks and drinks at either the AH or HEMA outposts in Central Station before your trek. If you are in Amsterdam for work at Phillips, or are on a cruise ship, stay at the Movenpick, otherwise, you will be disappointed.

stayed at hotel for 2 nights for my birthday break.
The location is not that far from the main area. A 10min walk from centraal station. Trams 25 & 26 stop by the hotel.
Got a great rate through hotwire but emailed hotel in advance to ask about an upgrade to exec room. The cost was €70 per night with room on top floor , breakfast and lounge access. We arrived to checkin but no exec kings rooms were available. I advised we requested one in advance so they upgraded us to a junior suite which was great but was on the 12th floor with only ok views. We were told that prior to our arrival that the had assigned us a nice room on the 20th floor with great views, so while we were appreciated with the upgrade of room the views were not as great as promised.
The room was nice very comfortable bed, nice shower however a bit disappointed the TV was not lcd or plasma. Everything is clean and new so old tv felt out of place in the room.
We decided to have a drink in the exec lounge on the 2nd floor. As other reviews mentioned nobody was in the exec lounge when we arrived or any time we went their. Staff were walking around the empty restaurant which is beside the lounge but none came to the exec lounge to ask to serve us drinks e.t.c no service at all. We had to rummage around to try to find a drink e.t.c. Many of the staff seemed disinterested in any sort of service. This was the same for breakfast which you could have in the lounge or restaurant around the corner. The breakfast was a self service breakfast. The only thing they asked us did we want tea or coffee at breakfast. We only drink tea and so were told that we could get that from the restaurant . Very strange they will service you some coffee but not tea a bit typical of the non existant service. This is not the service you would expect from such a hotel.
overall nice clean modern hotel but lacking the service you would expect. Would I stay there again probably not as I like a hotel that know how to provide some level of service to its guests. You want it to succeed but it sadly fails in this department.

NIce modern hotel for a business trip. Friendly well trained staff. Good breakfast, shower, free fast internet and comfortable bed. Well maintained rooms. Free shuttle ride (5 mins) to main station is useful on the cold rainy days. Quiet rooms with great views.

Stayed here for 1 night while passing through Amsterdam. I previously lived just outside of Amsterdam and was not too familiar with hotels (having been a resident) I am glad I chose the Moevenpick. The hotel is very new and stylish, the bar downstairs serves a large menu of cocktails and drinks. The room had a great view of the city and had a couch which was nice to sit and read.

The decor of the hotel is very modern and all common areas are kept spotlessly clean. My one gripe- the lobby is quite small and it can seem like the concierge and desk staff are staring you down as you walk though- a bit overbearing for my tastes.

The hotel also has underground parking which is very convenient (and rare to find in central Amsterdam).

I would highly recommend staying here

Just visited the Movenpick Hotel for a two night stay as a birthday treat and it was brilliant. After a harrowing start, nearly missing our flight i was so pleased that on arrival early at the hotel the receptionist checked us into our room and we could start to relax.
All the staff were extremely friendly and professional and very helpful. The room was clean and stylish with a fabulous view. The barman was hilarious although i dont think he ment to be but it was a pleasure after a long walk around Amsterdam. The tram conveniently stopped opposite the hotel so access to Centraal Station was really good.
Chocolates and biscuits with a birthday card in our room was a lovely touch.
Overall a very good standard of hotel.

A great newer hotel with an easy walk to downtown. The tram station is only one block away and the walk to town is only ten minutes. Modern large rooms with great views of the city. Large bathroom. Refrigerator in room.
