“It's all about the location.”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

Just back from a long weekend here at the start of June, and on arrival I realised I'd stayed here before but had forgotten all about it...well that's Amsterdam visits for you!?!?
Staff on reception were helpful and friendly, even pointing out the discount which should have shown on my Bill for booking online.
Stairs are almost vertical, but they all are in Amsterdam. Room was small and had a portable tv which was about the size of a smartphone. The shower had no regulator, and two settings: boiling or freezing. You had to attempt aqua-aerobics to juggle the two taps to try and get a happy medium of water temperature. But if another flat was showering or running water you were back to square one. Not a gigantic gripe, but one to consider if you don't want your testicles turning to icicles or boiled eggs!
What the Hotel Ben does offer you is a perfect location. Very close to Centraal Station and right on the doorstep of the Red Light Area, restaurants and the many bars; also a short walk to Dam Square. It can be a little noisey in the evening with revellers returning home to the hotel and the many others nearby. I suggest you get tanked and you won't have a problem sleeping. Not overly expensive, but then again, it's not a mansion.
Would probably stay again, but it'll be a wee while. You can only take so many Amsterdam long weekends.

Room Tip: Try and not get one on the main Beurstraat street!

The only good thing about this place is the location everything else is very poor. Our room had really poor lighting and not much room for four people sharing. Even though we didn't smoke in our room but you could strongly smell that the neighbouring rooms from their smoke especially those smoking pot! Very noisy so don't expect to get any sleep.. If u do dose off you'll soon be woken up from the chimes of the bells right outside this place! Very dated inside. Never been to a hotel that has cat flaps in the doors for their cat! Strange! Didn't see any sign of an escape route in the event of a fire which was a bit worrying. Very Steep stairs to climb if you have heavy luggage but you have to expect this in Amsterdam tho. No elevator. I thought I was very expensive considering this place was very basic and dated. Shouldn't be classed as a hotel more a hostel. Never would I stay here again!

We were in a quad for 2 days, I recommend it especially to countrymen Italians who choose to save money to come to Amsterdam  from Eindhoven since it is located just opposite the railway station and the bus terminal .. excellently positioned to reach coffee shops (almost all in the area) and redlight, but also cultural sites such as the Van Gogh Museum and Dam square. Just enough with regard to cleanliness and facilities offered

Great location and really cheap, but that's about it. High and narrow stairs, no elevator. I wouldn't recommend it for a family as it is very close to the red light district and above a coffe shop. It was OK for a group of friends though, pretty good value for money.

I recently stayed in the hotel Ben and it was an all in all great stay. The location of the hotel was perfect as you are right in the center near to central station, dam square and attractions such as the grasshopper and red light district! The staff where also very helpful by coming into room everyday to empty bins fill toilet rolls up etc. they where also very friendly and laid back, especially Ron and fati. I would 100% stay here again it is great for groups of friends travelling together who aren't to bothered about it being too luxorious and are up for a laugh!

Clean, good location, you get what you pay for. Stayed twice no complaints. The steps are narrow and steep so be ready to drag your luggage up..,,,,,,,,,,,,right in the center of the red light,,, can be a little noisy if you are at the back of the building but nothing that would keep you awake at night,,,
