I booked this hotel as a birthday treat for my partner for 4 nights and I can honestly say it couldn't have been better. We arrived at he hotel around 9.30 and was welcomed by a very polite and helpful lady,we were delighted when she said a room was ready for us and were given our room key along with a voucher for free drinks in the bar for my partners birthday a very nice gesture. We went to or room on the 5th floor room 535 a large design room, on the desktop a birthday card had also been left for my partner from the hotel manager mr Benjamin tam this made us feel even more welcome than we already did. The room was very nicely decorated all modern with a sofa area by the window, very spacious bathroom with bath and separate shower and a very comfortable bed. The hotel is about 10 minutes away from central station by bus but is easily reached by taking the number 48 bus right outside the hotel. The rest of the hotel was very clean and modern too we loved sitting outside having a drink from the bar in the evening, all staff were very professional and helpful, we enjoyed our stay so much we are going to return same time next year and might even upgrade to an xl room you can't beat a nice hotel that makes you feel so welcome roll on next year ;) .....date of stay 5/07/2012

We wanted a comfortable and not cramped hotel not too far from the city centre. We were getting towards the end of our Dutch cycle tour and we wanted to be able to unwind without blowing the bank. Obviously, as Amsterdam is a major tourist destination, you are not going to find anywhere too central. The main railway station is a 10 minute bus ride away. (The buses run every 10 minutes from outside the hotel).

We found the best rate to be via Expedia. You have to be careful when comparing sites, not to confuse the 3* and the 4* parts of the hotel. Also there are different categories within the 4* rating too. We went for a standard 4* room.

We didn't have any original Rembrandt’s hanging over our bed. The room was stylish and they obviously had thought about its appearance. The toilet is kept separate from the bathroom. This is important and the latter is separated from the main sleeping area by a glass surround. The exhibitionism does not end there, as you can bathe in full view of the shunting yard that the hotel overlooks. Strangely the television was an old CRT box. There are the usual pay TV options and free BBC.

If you are on a romantic weekend and want to step out from your hotel room onto the canals of Amsterdam, this is not the place for you. However if you want a 4* experience for the price of a 2* hotel in the centre of town, perhaps this may suit you. The staff are friendly and attentive. They also sell travel passes. There is secure car parking under the hotel for a fee. We also parked our bikes there for free. An Olympic sized public swimming pool is adjacent to the hotel, which would have been fantastic, if only the weather was a bit better. There are no major eating options within a kilometre of the hotel but there are many just beyond this distance.

I would stay here again.

First off, this was an art hotel, but I got a room that had absolutely no art on the walls. None. A mirror, yes, but the rest of the walls were blank and white. My room was tiny, and dank. It felt more like a dorm room than a hotel. The staff were quite blasé and uninterested, they weren't rude but definitely weren't friendly. And the breakfast was super overpriced for what it was. It wasn't an awful stay, but it wasn't a great one. I would pick somewhere else next time.

Dear Amandafantastic,

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on your recent stay with us.
I was very dismayed to read about the fact that you found our staff uninterested. This is definitely not the way we would like to deliver service.

Furthermore I am very interested in your room number since you write that there was no art in your room. Feel free to contact me directly via benjamin.tam@westcordhotels.nl

I enjoyed my time at the Art hotel, breakfast buffet was quite good, though not very sumptuous but considering the price, I guess it was fair.
The room was spacious and quite clean, beautiful decor. The staff were very warm and helpful, there was also a pool. The hotel is very easy to get to by public transport, close enough to the city centre to be convenient but not too near to be busy.
On the whole I had a great time.

Room Tip: The room I was in overlooked the main road, leading to the Amsterdam central, so was a bit noisy in...

very nice hotel, great size room. location was good as buses stop outside and only take 10 minutes into the city centre, or a steady walk of 30 minutes. recommended.

I have stayed in many hotel's in Amsterdam. My first experience at the west cord art. I must say it was one of the most pleasant stays I've had,and I have stayed at 5 stars 4 stars in my 10 years of going,it was my first 3 star and i can't recommend it enough. If its a nice relaxing reasonable hotel you want and a short distance from central station, this is perfect.

The hotel was pretty good, on arrival the room was a bit dusty and the sheets weren't changed the second day we were there, otherwise it was pretty ok. The location was a bit out of the city centre but travelling to and from was quite simple with the busstop being right outside. The Wifi signal was rather weak on the 4th floor where we stayed which was quite annoying.
