“Great value and staff”
Reviewed 31 August 2012 via mobile

Stayed here with the family for a couple of days as base for Amsterdam. 48 bus stops right outside so easy for the city.
Staff were friendly and efficient and can't fault them. Any hotel" that has "all naked swimmers must be out of pool by 9.00" is interesting.
We had great weather so morning coffee on terrace while waiting for kids was nice.
Loved the pictures and would recommend.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on your recent stay with us.
As you might know, the pool is owned by the municipality and they allow people to swim undressed from 07.00- 09.00. I must agree that this sometimes is a strange sight.
The pool is now closed and will re-open next spring.

Best regards,

Only a short bus ride (No. 48) from Centraal Station, this hotel provides a very good standard of accomodation at much more affordable rates than the city centre hotels. The large room was airy and spotlessly clean, the beds really comfortable and the bathroom more than adequate. Breakfast offered everything you could ask for - cooked breakfast, cold meats and cheeses, various breads and pastries, fresh fruit, etc., Unlimited coffee, milk, water, fruit juices - and if you wanted more of anything, the staff were friendly and only too willing to oblige.
We also found the reception staff to be extremely amicable and helpful, as were the restaurant staff when we dined there. The restaurant food was very good, too - although a little pricey, but not moreso than most places in Amsterdam. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone wanting an affordable stay in Amsterdam without compromising on standards, and will almost certainly stay here on future visits to this lovely city. The weather during our stay was not good, but had it been hot and sunny, the swimming pools and outdoor decking area would have been a welcome part of this hotel's list of amenities. The other excellent service provided free of charge, was the unlimited Internet access - and free printing facility!

Stayed here late August. Nicest hotel of the 3 I stayed in while in Europe. Wifi in the room is nice. Fridge is also a plus to keep waters cold. The room was clean. The hotel is a 10 minute bus ride to the center of Amsterdam, which is great if you want quiet. If you want to be in the center of it all spend a little more and get a hotel near Centraal Station. The pool was disappointing. While there are two and they are HUGE I wish they let travelers know ahead of time it is a public pool. We went to go use the pool to find a long line before it even opened at 12. I then found out it was public and realized my idea of sitting my a relaxing, beautiful, quiet pool was gone! Amsterdam is awesome and I can't wait to go back. While this was an great hotel I'll get one closer to the center of the city.

Very clean, tidy, modern and new. However, the room was tiny. A miracle of planning to get a bed and bathroom into such a small space. Don't take a cat, you won't be able to swing it. The light switches were on the headboard below the pillow level so you turn on the lights in your sleep! Who thought of that one. Staff were not interested at all, apart from talking to each other. Very little to recommend here, struggling for something positive to say apart from clean and tidy.

Room Tip: If you choose a room on a low floor at the back of the hotel, you can watch the red light district g...

The hotel location is less than 10 minutes from the busy city center, or Central Station, by bus numbers 22 and 48 -both of which are frequent and on time (Hempoint stop). In fact if you train in from Schipol, you can get off the train at Sloterjidk station and catch bus #48, going towards Central Station. Although by first impression the hotel is somewhat lacking in curb appeal, it is nestled up against a wooded bucolic area which encompasses an outdoor swimming pool complex, the Brediusbad. Admission to the swimming pool is complementary for guests staying at the hotel. Personally I have enjoyed taking advantage of this perk and going for the daily 7-9 am adult session. (There were about 20 hard-core swimmers each morning who braved the quite chilly water - but hey where else can you swim in the nude open-air in the middle of a large city?) The hotel itself is modernistic in construction and decor. We were on the 3rd floor in the 4-star wing and once we closed the door we could hardly hear anything from outside the room. Our room was clean and free of odor. The bed was comfortable. We were most impressed with the beautifully-finished and amply-stocked bathroom which consists of a shower and a tub, and a big sink. The toilet is in a separate closet. By most people's account Amsterdam was in the middle of a historic heat wave while we were there, but the air-conditioning kept us comfortable during the entire time. Housekeeping staff and the front desk staff were terrific. Checking-in and checking-out were smooth and efficient. In addition, the front desk staff were most helpful and accommodating - they let us check in as early as 9 am - just as we got off the transatlantic flight. The free Wi-Fi worked flawlessly. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel - a great value for the price we paid.

We stayed 5 nights August 2012 and were very pleased with all aspects. Here are some things you should know if considering this hotel:

Location - around 12-15 minutes from Centraal on bus 48, it stops right at the hotel, exit for "Gempoint". You can also take # 22 but have to walk further to the hotel, too far with luggage. Since it is away from the crowded tourist area it is quiet and more restful compared to staying in central Amsterdam and you get a better return for your lodging dollar, a 4-star for less price compared to the city. There is a market close by, just take bus 48 and go 2 stops toward the city for the Albert Heijn market. In the area of this market are several places to eat and drink (less costly than downtown). We enjoyed the Mensjelief Cafe a few times, they had very good bitterballen (fried croquette balls) that go well with beer while waiting for your meal. Across from the cafe is a new cheesemonger and we brought home some nicely aged farmhouse gouda.

Rooms - we had an XL room in the 4-star section. The beds were extremely comfortable and the layout is very good, like a small suite. The entrance area is roomy enough to store a suitcase and keep your shoes there, adjacent to this are the toilet room and the separate bath / shower / sink room then a doorway leading to the bedroom. There is a mini-bar but it is not convenient to use for your own food and drink so that is an item that can be improved on. The rooms are air conditioned and we stayed comfortable during a 32+ degree heat wave. Room service people are considerate and brought towel changes upon request since we had the "do not disturb" sign up due to jet lag.

Etc.- The bar serves reasonably priced beer with a good selection and the food isn't so overpriced as mentioned by some other reviewers and it's of good quality. There are complimentary laptops for public use with a printer attached to one of them and there are espresso machines for 2 euro. The hotel ordered our taxi back to the airport and it's a flat rate of 40 euro and well worth it. There is a large public pool adjacent to the hotel, right behind the property, it provides a good backdrop to the outdoor bar area and is not intrusive. Everything in this property is clean and maintained as you would expect from a 4-star facility.

A special thanks to Benjamin Tam the hotel manager. I had communicated our unforeseen flight delays (2 days worth) and he kindly arranged a room upgrade and sent a bottle of prosecco with snacks as a welcome gesture after the tough trip knowing we were a little frazzled. Later at the hotel's bar he walked up and introduced himself and he turned out to be both personable and professional as was the other staff members we interacted with such as Marieke.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights from 20/08/2012 - 22/08/2012. Staff are professional and helpful, rooms are clean and a good size and the hotel is about 20 - 30 mins walk into Amsterdam Centre, by bus on the 22 which is about 2mins away from the hotel it takes 10mins bus ride to the town centre. The service at the hotel was brilliant and the bed was super comfy, this is great value for money. I would certainly stop at this hotel again when travelling to Amsterdam. My only concern is the company that the hotel use to clean their bed linen, towels etc, is letting the down, this of course is not the hotels fault, but something management at the hotel should look into. Other than that we had a fantastic time at this hotel.
