“Great Value for your Money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2014

Great value for your money. I was hesitant to book this hotel based on its location, however this proved not to be an issue at all. It takes 10-15 minutes to reach the center of town by a bus that runs all night (note: the bus number switches from 48 to 348 at night, and the pick-up location changes to a different part of Centraal Station, just be aware and read the signs, it's not too big of a deal). If anything, the location was an unexpected bonus - it's close to Westerpark, and feels more authentic than the touristy city center.

Breakfast spread was decent, plenty of options and good hours. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Clean and spacious rooms. Couldn't ask for more at this price point in Amsterdam.

We had decided to stopover in Amsterdam following a Baltic cruise and we were overjoyed by our hotel choice. We stayed in the 4star section thanks to an upgrade from the delightful Irish receptionist called Milou. For our entire stay we were treated so warmly and we really felt we got a lot more than we might have anticipated. The hotel itself is extremely arty and quite funky. The bar/ lounge are was quite unique and cosy. The beautiful brown bread available to customers in the bar/dining area was an inspired touch. The bedroom was just beautiful and the service meticulous and efficient. We would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam. We walked everywhere until we resorted to the excellent local transport network. We could not have expected more than we received in this delightful hotel. Our very sincerest gratitude to all who made our visit so memorable.

Room Tip: Can't really advise here although our room on the 3rd floor was perfect

Situated a few minutes drive from the center and with frequent bus service making every destination effortlessly reachable, Art Hotel stands out as it offers an artistically atmospspheric environment, comfortable facilities and a superb service from devoted staff. Ideal for families and for the tired businessman who needs to relax a bit in peacefull yet luxurious accomodation, while away on businesses.

Stayed in the 3 star section of the Art Hotel and had a great experience. It was very comfortable, quiet, and featured an extensive breakfast buffet. Since we were traveling without a car, I really appreciated the fact that buses regularly stopped directly in front of the hotel to take us into the city center.

Although it is situated outside the city center, the Art Hotel is actually a great place from which to access Amsterdam by foot. Several days, we had very pleasant walks that took us past the beautiful Museum Het Schip, through Westerpark, and across the canals into Amsterdam proper. If you have the time, walking from the Art Hotel is a great way to get to know this wonderful city without the crowds!

Here is a tip if you are using public transportation to get from Schiphol Airport to the Art Hotel - get off at the Sloterdijk Station, rather than going all the way into the Amsterdam Central Station. The #48 bus runs between Sloterdijk Station and the Central Station, with the Art Hotel roughly halfway in between. Getting off at Sloterdijk shaves time from your trip, but even more importantly it is much quieter than the Central Station - no small consideration when you are jet lagged from a transatlantic flight! We took the bus in and out of both stations and Sloterdijk was much easier to navigate. Just head down from the train platform and there is a bus stop. Hop on a #48 bus (you can buy a ticket directly from the driver) and ask to be dropped at the Hempoint stop. It is that simple - the bus drops you at the front door of the hotel.

The WestCord Art Hotel is located in the west area of Amsterdam, literally ten meters away from a bus stop where you can easily hop on #22 or #48 buses and reach Central Staation in about 10 minutes.
We had some difficulties locating the main entrance of the hotel, as we thought the 3 stars and 4 stars were two completely separate facilities: they are not, the entrance is quite large and visible from the bus stop across the road.

Upon arrival, we were given some west Amsterdam maps, an event magazine and lots of discounts and information to visit Amsterdam.

Tip: if you're staying for 1-3 days, consider buying the iAmsterdam card online, it will save you some money if you visit lots of museums.

Hi Frapontillo,

Thank you for your kind words! The hotel has indeed one entrance for both 3 and 4 star rooms. I agree with you in the I Amsterdam card. These are available at the reception for 24, 48 or 72 hrs. From 48 hrs it is a great bargain. You can find more information on the internet.

Booked this hotel through Travelrepublic and got a fantastic deal on a bed and breakfast rate for a family of four. Initially couldn't book a family room through Travelrepublic so hey requested a pull out bed. We were so pleased on arrival to find that the hotel had allocated us a family room anyway. These rooms are ideal for a family of four, with a separate bedroom off from the main bedroom, both rooms have a TV, so the kids were pleased.

Getting to the hotel couldn't be any easier. Taking advice from on Tripadvisor we took a train from Schipol to Sloterdjk for €3.30 (single) a journey that lasts only 10 mins. From Sloterdjk we took the number 48 bus direct to the hotel, the price just a couple of euros and lasting 6 mins.

Check in was quite and efficient. Plenty information given by the reception staff, including free maps of Amsterdam and the offer to book excusions on our behalf if wanted. He staff are friendly and courteous at all times and give he impression that nothing is too much trouble.

We stayed in the 3 star part of the hotel. The beds were comfortable and unlike many hotels I've stayed in there were plenty of fluffy pillows. My husband didn't sleep too well but puts this down do the heat in the room. The room has a safe and a minibar. The mini bar is quite expensive but no more than any other hotel bar. We bought our own drinks and used the minibar to keep everything cool. The bathroom is large with a huge bath in it, great for soaking in after walking around Amsterdam all day. There were plenty of toiletries in the room too and a good supply of soft fluffy towels.

The breakfasts at the hotel are amazing and there is so much choice. Numerous different choices of bread, various different jams, spreadable cheeses and chocolate spread. Different choices of cereals. A wide variety of cooked meats and cheeses. Selection of chopped fruits and salad items and yoghurt. For cooked breakfasts they supply boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon, sausages, baked beans and panckakes. Plenty of choice for all the family and well prepared and cooked,

Even though the hotel is outside of the main area of Amsterdam we found it ideal. The bus runs every 10 mins throughout the day and we bought a pass from reception for €16.50 per adult which covered the cost of all bus and trams for 72 hours, we made full use of the pass too visiting many areas of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is walkable from the hotel but would take about 30-40 mins. We did this on our first day, going via the nearby Westerpark which is also a beautiful place. The swimming pool is also a lovely addition. Guests need to get a token from reception and enter via the main road as is a public swimming pool. My youngest enjoyed it and would no doubt have spent all day in there had the weather been warmer.

Slight negatives of the hotel, the heat in the room, although there was air conditioning it wasn't really effective and unfortunately we couldn't open he window. Also the carpet appeared grubby, but I think this down to a bad choice in colours for the carpet.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay here and would most definately recommend it to family and friends. We hope to return in the near future.

We chose this hotel as it was very good value for money, although it is out of amsterdam there is a bus stop outside that will get you to the center of amsterdam in 10-15 mins and there are also bikes you can hire for the day from outside the hotel . I would recommend a travel pass we paid 12 euros for 2 days, we even got back to the airport using these by catching the 68 bus to the train station and then catching a bus to the airport which took about 40 mins.
Hotel was very clean and quiet and the reception staff were very helpful.
Also a place to hold luggage as we got there at 11am and check in isn't till 3pm. Would recommend
