Located near the Centraal Train Station and on the cusp of the red light district, this hotel was perfect for our stay. The wellness center and spa were good as was the service. The best part is the free minibar that is replenished each morning. Great stay and would stay again.

Stay here if you are a couple looking for a 4.5-star hotel and want to enjoy the city center with easy access to Central Station.

This hotel is in an old shipping building. It is charming, and has European appeal. The rooms are spacious, but awkwardly designed (prob because of existing structures) and will be in need of an update soon. The staff are well-trained and friendly. Like other 'dam hotels, if you need something, you will need to ask for it. The beds are comfortable and fairly new, but a bit firm. The mini bar is included in the room-rate which is a nice perk!

The location is a 5 minute walk from Central Station, 5-10 minutes to Dam Square/RLD. We took a few train trips, so this location was ideal. Also, if you take the train from Schipol to Central, your entire airport transfer will cost you 7 euro (r/t!).

There is much to eat, but the center of amsterdam is mostly filled with tourist food aka great drinking grub (Broodjes, fried everything, FEBO, pizza...etc). Make sure you look outside of city center for finer dining (De Kas does wonders).

The pool is located in the lower level and is a nice perk after a long day. The pool was well maintained, and not busy at all. I found the hotel overall to not be filled to capacity and there were few young children around.

The hotel is overall quiet, and you will not bump into too many other guests. The corridors are small and can get confusing - chalk it up again to the older building design. Remember to ask for directions to the Pool!

Enjoy the 'dam!

Room Tip: If you will be in and out - ask for a room closest to an elevator.

The Amrath Amsterdam is a simply stunning building. It used to be the headquarters for several shipping companies and is mainly of art deco design. It is a bit of a warren but once you've been back and forth to your room a few times you can crack it!
The room was gorgeous - high, high ceiling, plenty of floorspace, beautiful furniture, view over the canal. Ultra modern refurbishment, especially of the bathroom. Shame we didn't have a bath, but to be honest we hadn't asked for one and it wasn't really an issue. Bathrobes and slippers were included, there was free wi-fi, and there was also a free minibar - to the astonishment of one American guest who asked at reception - "Even the liquor??"
There was also a Nespresso machine in the room - fast, delicious coffee at the touch of a button. The minibar had 2 x Cokes, 2 x Diet Cokes, 2 x Sprites, 2 x Tonic Waters, 2 x Orange Juices, and an assortment of miniatures, vodka, whisky etc, plus a free chocolate bar and peanuts. This was fully replenished every day.
The staff were extremely polite, smiley and helpful - both reception and the concierge. Housekeeping was excellent - especially considering we had the Do Not Disturb sign up most mornings! Some hotels won't make up your room if you've slept in, but the Amrath staff just come back later. There's also a turn-down service in the evenings.
We didn't bother with the breakfast, although the restaurant did look nice - we wanted to get our day started right in the city. We also didn't try out the spa, which was a shame but we were having such a great time in the city we basically forgot about it! I had a look round on our last day, it seemed pretty luxurious and welcoming.
The Amrath is a quick 5 minute walk (with rolling suitcases) from Central Station, unless you've got very heavy luggage you really DON'T need a taxi. The canal boat stops are also handy - just near the station. You can walk right down to the Rijksmuseum in about 30-40 minutes, or catch a tram. Beware - the trams are NOT cheap, about 2.5 euros for a short ride, we paid 26 euros for a 24-hour canal boat ticket instead. If you buy the 24-hour option rather than the 'all day' option, it's 24 full hours from when you first board, and so you can hop on/hop off as much as you like. So we walked to the Rijksmuseum first, then bought a ticket, and didn't board till nearly 6pm for the ride home - so essentially we got 2 days' use out of it.

Room Tip: Because it's an old building, all the rooms are different. So if you want a particular feature...

Beautiful Hotel in a perfect location. When we were there, the mini bar items were both plentiful and FREE. Free beer, wine, candy, nuts, you name it, it was free. Espresso machines in the room, great dining room and nice staff. No A/C though, the room was hot most of the visit. They have this odd fan system, really doesn't work. Just hope you aren't there for much warm weather.

Great hotel, with a lot of historical places. We enjoyed the swimmingpool in the heart of the city. It's a bit expensive but the money worth it

The hotel was fabulous, staff were excellent & very friendly and due to the Euro v pound everywhere is expensive. We stayed for 4 nights which was enough in a city, we never ate in the hotel but drank quite a lot and the free mini bar was fab for a pre-evening drink but only 1 chocolate bar which my fella nabbed every day...!! There wasn't a towel rail which was a shame as just damp towels then needed to be changed.

After reading some reviews we were a tad worried the hotel was a dark & dingy, far from it it in well lit and has the most amazing art-deco features. Our room was on the main street and our electric curtains did tend to open and close themselves, but the bed was to die for as were the pillows. The thing it lacks is a lounge area in the lobby were you can sit awaiting transport or whist waiting for friends & family.

But next time we visit Amsterdam this will be our first choice but not until the pound is stronger!!

We will be back!!!!

We stayed here for 4 nights and found the staff to be helpful and we were very grateful of the umbrella which the hotel provided ! The room was not the largest. It is a converted art deco building so what the room lacked in storage made up in the beautiful high ceilings. Any more than a few days for 2 people and you would be very squashed . The toiletries were very good and the replenished free mini bar lovely. As the bathroom door is an opaque heavy screen if you are sharing a room you would need to be close friends !-
We got a good price online about 115 a night and would recommend the hotel but not at the rrp of 250 a night.
