“Again a wonderful experience”
Reviewed 23 December 2011

I had my second visit to this delightful Hotel on the 9th December, the room was again excellent. Well furnished, delightful bed wih an abundance of pillows.

A wonderful Bahroom with Tub and Shower, plenty of Towels and Terry Robe and Slippers,

The free WiFi was fast and reliable and the complimentary MiniBar was a welcome highly appreciated extra, I can only again express my satisfaction with this Hotel. The Staff were friendly and efficient and he room was always well cleaned and the Bathroom and MiniBar well stocked.

Very comfortable hotel in a convenient location for the train station. The room had all the conveniences you could wish for including tea, coffee, bathrobe and a powerful hairdryer. The mini bar was free, which unfortunately I did not realise until half way through my stay. The ceilings are very high but the room still managed to feel cosy. The only thing that I found a little strange is that the remote control curtains started to open on their own about 4am which was a bit shock and took some getting used to. I cannot rate the breakfast as I did not try it and the gym/pool area in the basement also looked nice. All in all I would stay here again.

We arrived at Centraal Station & the walk to the hotel was just a few minutes. Each & every staff member encountered was very pleasant, helpful, & nice. The hotel itself, like a charming, old time, grand luxury ship with narrow wood hallways & a maritime decor in the stained glass ceiling at the top of the main stairwell.

The room was clean & the bed was comfortable. Because of the odd shape to the room, the bed was a little too close to one wall, but nothing to complain about. Remote control curtains, convenient master light switches in the headboard, free wi-fi throughout the hotel, & free mini-bar re-stocked daily were appreciated features.

The concierge was always right there or just steps away & offered insightful help. He really listened to what we were asking & was knowledgeable & pleasant.

The bathroom was clean & overall it was fine. The fold out glass shower doors wouldn't stay put & resulted in a bit of a mini-flood on the floor ...but was taken care of with two towels, (there were extras so it wasn't a huge issue)

Amsterdam is a small city so I can't imagine an inconvenient location, but I found this location to be good. It took 5 minutes to walk to Centraal Station, about 5-7 minutes to walk to Nieuwmarkt, about 10 minutes to the Rembrandt House, & about 20 minutes to walk to the Rijksmuseum (if that helps to get bearings while looking at a map)

We will certainly be staying here again.

I was promised a superior room and I was not disappointed.
Bath robes and slippers, free drinks in the mini bar, a selection of tea and coffee and a comfortable bed- all in amazing surroundings.
The health spa was nice but the jacuzzi was not warm enough, neither was the swimming pool.
The service was very friendly and helpful, although I was charged city tax even though I had already paid in with the booking.

Free, fully stocked minibar! Need I say more?!

Massive comfortable room, central location, gorgeous building. Not too expensive, but the staff were very slow checking us in (I think it took around half an hour!). Will return.

Fantastic hotel. Beautiful gothic looking building - apparently was used by Gestapos...adds the extra thrill to it. It really left me breathless each time. I stayed two nights at the Grand Amrath. Hotel is right next to Amsterdam's central station so it was a short hop and skip over with my suitcase. It is also a stone throw from the red light district but removed enough to keep that all important serenity.

The hotel concierge and staff were extremely friend, with great tips and lots of smiles. The bed...oh those pillows were divine, bathroom was nice and large. And the free mini-bar (which was topped up twice in one day)! Can never go wrong with that. The complimentary Nespresso machine, the lush decor (yes it is intentionally dark) and being able to open my curtains without having to get up in the morning - priceless.

Loved it all round. Don't think just book it. I would not advice eating at the hotel as a friend who has stayed there many times said the food was as good as your usual hotel food. Go out and explore amsterdam! Checkout the Thai Snackbar Bird which the concierge confessed that he ate at alot of the time. Have breakfast at Pancake! on Berenstraat and have dinner at the amazing Balthazaar on Elandsgracht.

Booking on-line is never easy . . . but if traveling to Amsterdam, this is where we would stay again and again. Ideal location for exploring the city with everything within walking distance and every day an "adventure".

Excellent concierge service - everyone was so helpful, warm, and welcoming.

No matter what the event - anniversary, birthday, or a much needed vacation, you're just one mouse click away from an unforgettable experience.

Worth every penny!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a City view and make sure they include the mini-bar. Don't forget your conve...
