I arrived with high expectations but was sadly disappointed. We booked on line a few weeks in advance and requested an adjoining king and twin room for my family (parents teenage son and daughter). When we arrived and I asked if our rooms were together I was told that they were 2 floors apart (in fact it was 3 floors). When I queried this I was offered two king rooms together but it was obviously not suitable for my teenage son and daughter to share a bed but the manager could not see that this was an issue. So we took the rooms 3 floors apart. Only one room was ready (which was fine as it was before 2pm) and the receptionist offered to show us to this room which we accepted. Having followed her down various corridors trailing our luggage with us she finally had to admit that she had no idea where our room was and went off to find someone who did. It was actually in the basement but having said that it was a nice spacious room. In the evening , having put the do not disturb sign on the door and getting ready for my shower, the door was opened by a member of staff which was embarrassing. This was then followed by two men knocking on the door asking if we were in their room (their room was on the 4th floor so why did they think it could be in the basement???.) I appreciate that this wasn't the hotel's fault but by this stage I was very annoyed.

Today - after a long day out sightseeing - my children returned to their room at 5.15 pm to shower and change for dinner to find that it still had not been serviced. I did complain to reception and they sent someone immediately but this is not the level of service that you expect from a 5 star hotel.

Perhaps we have just been unlucky in staying at a busy weekend but we will be glad to leave this hotel and will never return.

I came here with my mum for a short three night break in March. We had a fantastic time, the hotel is in such a great location, the staff were ever so helpful and friendly, especially one waiter in the bar, can't remember his name but he recommended a few of our trips and was patient with our attempts at saying thank you in Dutch!
During our stay it was so cold in the city that once it got to the evening we spent our time chilling at the hotel, making use of the mini bar, the lovely pool, jacuzzi and sauna and then having a relaxing meal at the bar! Perfect.... have already recommended the hotel to friends and family!

Stayed over Easter for our anniversary and were given a bottle of wine and card which was a nice touch.Staff genuinely freindly and the room was quite large with great sized double bed, lovely city view as we were on the 4th floor and expresso machine. The mini bar in the room is re-stocked each day and has 5 different miniatures, sml bottle of red & white wine and then 2 beer, sprite, pure orange, tonic, fizzy & still water, fat & skinny coke as well as some nuts all absolutely free,so for once i didn't mind how long my wife took to get ready in the evening. All and all a lovely hotel and when you consider its only 5 mins walk to central station and 10 to dam square the location is brilliant also.

Stayed at the Grand Hotel Amrath for romantic trip away in February.Got a very good deal from lastminute.com on there secret hotels. Great location next to the train station. Was upgraded on check in. Also as it was anniversary and they had put rose petals all over our room and a free bottle of wine. Free mini is great that is restocked daily. We worked out of the 1st night we had used 60 euros. So is a great feature plus a free tea and coffee machine. We had room service and the beef burger and pizza was really nice and came very quickly. Also found the staff friendly and kept saying hello to us as we walking around the hotel which was a great touch. The check in area is very small but the staff where really friendly.Would stay again on our next trip back to the city. We didn't have breakfast as we thought it was overpriced but there are loads of places to find food outside the hotel. On check out the concierge look after are bags while we explored the city for one last day. Would have looked to of used the pool which looked nice but was just too busy. It's a beautiful hotel with an unique look to it.

We stayed at this hotel whilst ona short city break with friends. The hotel is very easy to find when leaving the Centrall station, just tunr left and you can't miss it. Beautiful location and also very convenient to walk every where that this amazing city has to offer. Check in was very smooth and we were upgraded to a canal view room. Be prepared to pay extra to what you expected a sthere is a City Tax which the agent you book through may not have told you - it's onyl 5% though per person.
Our room was on the third floor, the ceiling as high as our house! but beautifully decorated with woodpanelling, huge windows with remote control curtains. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The mini bar is fully stocked and free. The wifi is also free and quite fast. The bed...what can I say but almost the most comfortable I have ever slept in - very high thread count sheets, bliss and pillows just to sink into and not want to get up!
We would highly recommend this hotel, and will definitely stay here next time we are in Amsterdam!
The swimming pool is small but a lovely temperature, the steam room and hot tub a great addition.

Having spent my 6th visit to this unique and wonderful Hotel, it is truly magnificent and full of highly interesting sights on every visit.

I find the atmosphere calm, efficient and satisfying. None of the staff are obtrusive but invariably helpful, courteous and always ready to assist if requested.

As a frequent visitor to Amsterdam it has been the best Hotel I have stayed in. The rooms are splendid and the provision of the mini-bar, replenished daily at no cost is a magnificent touch. The Wi-Fi is invariably of high quality and works well for receiving even large attachments to emails.

I do not hesitate to recommend this Hotel and will be coming back again and again.

The only downside is the 25 euro Breakfast, a touch pricey and I feel that the barrier is well exceeded when 20 euro's is exceeded

In all a wonderful place to stay with excellent staff, high quality service and great facilities

A great 3 night stay in the Grand Hotel Amrath Amserdam, 8 friends staying in the same hotel for a 50th Birthday, everybody extremely happy with their rooms especially the free tea/coffee and mini bar what a real treat.
The hotel is in a great setting only a short walk to all local amenities i.e the train station, dam square, great restaurant's etc. and the outside of the building is fantastic but wait until you get inside just amazing. All the staff we met were very welcoming and would be very accommodating and try to do as much as they could for you.
We didn't have breakfast in the hotel as only on a room only basis, and at about 25euros this is a little expensive as just down the road 6euros gets you good quality food.
On a whole Amsterdam was great, but the only thing we could have changed was the weather. but if that all we had to moan about I would say A great time was had by all.
