“I was expecting more......”

Have just returned from a great first time visit to Amsterdam, which we thoroughly enjoyed, however I was expecting a little more from this hotel.

IMHO this is not a 5*, carpets were worn and service was not attentive enough for 5*, there seemed to be new staff who maybe needed some more training?

Room was ok, however nothing more than a standard hotel room, yes bed was comfortable, nespresso coffee machine good, yes came in early evening and replaced used cups and replenished tea/coffee, tidied bathroom but no turn down, free minibar good but this is paid for in rate

breakfast ok, hot items left under a heat lamp not my favourite, ordered French toast one morning, don't order if in a rush....., didn't use restaurant or bar so can't comment.

Pool area, small but enjoyed after walking around the city

Checkin made an error on our card and charged 3x to our bank.....not good and this was merely laughed off as the employee was a new starter and not made aware until check out - not happy!

Loved Amsterdam however if/when we go back I would choose more central although this hotel was handy for the central station

This is the only hotel that I've been too that has high ceilings in the rooms and the room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated as well. It is a beautiful hotel and they have kept the hotel interior decor to match the past of the hotel which was a shipyard warehouse. It's also the only hotel that I've ever been to that provides the guests with a complimentary minibar everyday whcih was restocked daily. The location of the hotel is excellent, being about a 5-10min walk away from the city and the Amsterdam Centraal Station. The service was excellent and the porter, Stefan, was very friendly and nice. I will definitely stay here again when I'm back in Amsterdam next year. Thank you Grand Hotel Amrath for making it such an pleasant and enjoyable stay for my friend and I.

This hotel is a must stay! An excellent location within walking distance of the main downtown area. Excellent service 24/7 with a fantastic restaurant right on site! The pool and spa were clean and relaxing. The rooms were generally clean but a little dusty. Breakfast was AMAZING!!! I wish I was eating one of their croissants right now...

This hotel is beautiful and in a great location for the city. The rooms are really spacious, and the beds are super comfy. The spa is great and we really enjoyed our time there. The hotel staff were really helpful and polite and happy to help you with any request.
However a word of warning do not eat at the resturant, we had a very traumatic experience there and I would not like anyone else to encounter the aggressive and rude waiter who nearly ruined our trip.

Grand Hotel Amrath occupies a magnificent building and is situated very close to Amsterdam central station, making access to and from the hotel with bags, very easy. Overall our experience of the service was extremely poor except at our 'French' breakfast, where the waitress was good. On arrival, only two people were available to check guests in and out, and whilst the people at the desk were charming, it was quite a wait in the lobby. On our first day we arrived at lunch time and had tea and coffee in our room before setting out for the afternoon. When we returned at 21h00 we found all the used cups etc as the room had not been serviced. Perhaps this is standard, but in a 5 star hotel I would've expected more. We also asked for more coffee cream / milk which never arrived. We made our booking on Expedia and had to cancel the last night of our stay. Although we contacted the hotel two months before our stay, they were unwilling to refund some or part of our third night. This is probably standard practice but highly disappointing given we were able to give them such a long notice period.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room.

We loved the hotel, its beautiful and grand in a great location. The bed was the comfiest I've ever slept in, the free mini bar was great (although they were haphazard about refilling it) and we enjoyed the spa. The restaurant was horrible, poor food and worse service at extortionate prices. We complained after our meal and this felt like a battle (apparently the customer was 'wrong' at the Amrath' and this reflected on the whole hotel and stay for me, which is sad. If you go to the effort of training your cleaners to be polite then surely train your managers and waiters in basic customer service.

This hotel is well located and in easy walking distance of Amsterdam's Centraal Train station. Rooms were large enough and beautifully decorated. Nice bathroom as well, but did not include a makeup mirror. The mini bar was a plus, especially considering that breakfast was very expensive and not included in the price (approximately 40 USD). Coffee could be made in the room and orange juice was in the mini bar, replenished every day, without charge.

Reception staff was very helpful and friendly. Concierge could have been more helpful, especially since we had to get to the port on Queen's Day when all roads around the hotel were closed. Since we had a lot of luggage, that we did not feel we could pull all the way to the port, we asked for assistance from the concierge and he was unable to help us, even though we made the request a day ahead of time. Apparently since it was a holiday, there were no extra porters on hand. To my mind, this is not the level of service expected in a 5-star establishment.
