“Big rooms bad breakfast”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

I had a room in this hotel and i was not let down except for the breakfst which was tiny and i was hoping for something bigger and more creative for the price of the hotel.
The hotel is close to China town and the red light district, and if you want to visit anne fank house you can buy a tram pass and go 10 minutes by tram to it.
The rooms in the hotel are big and clean and comes with a minibar were everything is for free.
One bad thing is that the hotel is so huge so it can be hard to find things such as the pool or even you room.

Just back from a long weekend staying at the Grand Hotel Amrath, & found the Hotel to be comfortable enough, but didn't really feel like it was 5star. And the location is good if you like being within a few minutes of the station, (& a new chill out lounge/rooftop bar in the Hilton Doubletree approx 500 metres away), but you are a bit removed from the main hustle & bustle, which may suit you fine but we found we wanted to be where there was a bit of atmosphere to sit & enjoy a night cap people watching prior to hitting the sack. You tend to do quite a lot of walking during the day if you're here sight-seeing, so you don't really need a longish walk back to your hotel last thing (it's not on the main tram routes). Bed was very comfy & mini-bar a nice touch, even though we only used one bottle of water all the time we were there. All in all, it was ok, but next time we'd go back to the Kraznapolsky in Dam Square, which is our usual hotel.

This is a very stylish hotel with easy access to the Central Station and the main tourist areas. Lots of good restaurants near by for eating out. The room was very comfortable and included a free mini bar which was re-stocked every day and free wi-fi. The staff were very polite and helpful. The architecture of the hotel is stunning. I would have no problem in recomending this to anyone considering a trip to Amsterdam. Being close to the station is also a bonus for travel within the city and further abroad.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the canal or on one of the upper stories

We stayed at this hotel from saturday 2/8/14 to tuesday 5/8/14. We were here for a short honeymoon after getting married the previous day. We chose this hotel due to its location, its about a 5 - 10 mins walk from central station plus its not bang in the centre so you didnt get the noise. Its a very grand building, the room was lovely, the free min bar and coffee machine were a nice touch. There is a safety deposit box in the wardrobe and this was also free. The staff seemed very friendly but apart from checking in and out were never really had any contact with them. We booked just room only as there are so many places to eat in Amsterdam plus its not that expensive to eat out when your there. The bed was really comfy and we had a few good nights sleep, the curtains were thick and made it pitch black so we didnt wake up as soon as it got light. The only downside was there was no air con so due to the time of year it was a bit warm in the room. But that was only thing wrong i could find with this hotel, it definetly deserves a 5 star rating. The room was cleaned everyday and it was spotless, the mini-bar was always re-stocked and clean towels everyday. I would recommend this hotel and the next time I am in amsterdam I intend to stay here again

Room Tip: Sadly we were on the ground floor so didnt really have a good view but other than that room 35 was f...

We recently finished our 3 night stay here and were sad to go.

The location is great, central and walkable to all destinations. The staff we encountered were very professional and kind.

Our bedroom was great! Large size, luxurious, great bed and good quality linens, black out blinds, soundproofed windows, climate control which did work well for us and a very nice bathroom. One thing we didn't enjoy as much was the glass door creating lack of privacy, but this was not a major issue. The free in room mini bar and coffee was a great touch and replenished daily.

There is a large pool, sauna, spa and steam room free for guests. This was an excellent and relaxing touch! Also a small gym, well enough equipped.

We only tried the breakfast one morning, buffet style which was ok. Not the best hot selection but good enough. One thing I found out at the end is you can request a fresh omlette, French toast etc to suit your wants and needs at no extra cost. I wish I had of known this before instead of reading the small print on our table info at the end.

Overall we had an excellent stay. I am a travel agent and would recommend this hotel to all of my clients wanting a good location, good quality and reasonable price.

We booked the hotel as a treat for our family after reading reviews.

We requested a disabled room and were not informed that it would be unavailable on the first evening until our guests arrived.

The building is nice on the outside and in the lobby but looks like an old swimming baths in some corridors. The room decor, although designed to compliment the architecture was dull and dreary.

The staff were friendly but incompetent. The complaints follow;

Dirty lobby, no toilet roll in room, no air conditioning and when a fan was offered to bring the temperature of the room down it did not work. The remote control was also faulty and remained like that despite requests for repair on two occasions.

Some positives were the in room coffee machine, complimentary mini bar beverages and the space offered in the disabled room.

I would not recommend the hotel at all unless you are more concerned with the history of where you are staying before quality and service.

Be aware there is no air conditioning, the staff informed us that they have climate control that is determined by the air outside the hotel.
