“Simply the best!”
Reviewed 24 June 2010

We really can't say enough good things about this bed and breakfast! We stayed for 3 nights at the end of May and must say that it was really a highlight of our trip! The location is perfect - we were within walking distance of all the major sights and it was really nice to stay in an authentic home overlooking the canal rather than one of the chain hotels. The room was very smartly designed and made great use of space. It felt very spacious. We had a small sitting area with a sofa and our very own iMac loaded with relaxing music (which we have since downloaded and are enjoying). The round bed was really comfortable also! If there wasn't so much to see and do, we could have stayed in there for the entire day! The breakfasts were delicious and accompanied by engaging and insightful information from our hosts. Their dog Tommie was just way too adorable and also very well-behaved. An added treat was coming home in the evening to snacks and wine that we could enjoy in our room. Really, it is all the extras and added attention that make this place "over the top" and well worth the added cost (compared to some of the other hotels that I researched). If you want to treat yourself to something special, we would highlight recommend staying at Kamer01!!

I stayed at the Kamer with my daughter during a recent 2-day city break in Amsterdam. After reading previous reviews and checking out their website my expectations were high. I was not disappointed. The hosts Peter and Wolter are truly wonderful and their dog Tommie is just adorable. The service was first class but discreet. A map plus advice was duly offered upon arrival, together with a welcome drink and delicious little cakes. One evening we returned only to find nuts, nibbles and chocolates laid out on the kitchen table. We had the Red Room, which was beautifully furnished. There is the odd noise from passing trams, but that was no major problem. The location is perfect. The streets around the Singel are full of interesting shops and cafes. Everything is easily reached from here. We hired bikes and cycled everywhere. In one day we covered the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Vondelpark, the canals and the Anne Frank House. Plus some shopping! To sum it up: It was a pleasure and a privilege to share this marvel of a house with the owners. Just make sure you can get up steep stairs! I have never seen anything like it. True 16th Century Amsterdam!!!!

A couple of years ago,a good friend of mine recommended Kamer 01 as a nice place to stay, while we were meeting in Amsterdam. A "bed and breakfast", I answered, why don't we stay in a nice hotel instead...
But this place was a very pleasant surprise!
The two hosts - Peter and Wolter - master a fine balance of excellent, personal service, an adequate degree of friendliness still not intimidating your privacy.
The place presents an exquisite taste in furnishing and interior in general.
Peter and Wolter serve superb, customized breakfast in the morning. There is a high degree of hospitality including a family-like access to the refrigerators during the day.
I have stayed in several nice business class hotels in Amsterdam, but now I always try for vacancy in Kamer 01 before checking up with any other accommodation.
The place has moved, now located a bit more central, but when I was there in April, I was relieved to find it just as charming and delicate as it used to be.
This is a great place to stay inside, and a central location in the town.

My partner & I stayed for three nights at Kamer01 in late May of 2010. The entire experience was excellent. There are several forces making this place an exceptional B & B. First and foremost, are the owners, Peter & Wolter. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and cared for. We were greeted with a little snack & beverages and great conversation. Peter & Wolter were there to answer any questions and to give advice. They recommended three restaurants for dinner which were all stellar. Their breakfasts were delicious. The rooms are very large and extremely well-appointed, including your own iMac! The cherry on the top of the sundae is their adorable dog Tommy!

You can certainly beleive all the other reviews, and I agree with all of them. This is a beautiful place to stay in Amsterdam and Peter, Wolter and Tommy make it even better. Their hospitality is incredible, and the cleanliness of the place can not be beat. It rained pretty steady the three days we were here in may on our way to Sicily for 2 weeks, but we enjoyed our stay very much and loved the wonderful breakfasts. We stayed in the Red room and it has an extremely comfortable bed, and much roomier than the pictures on the internet look.
Tommy the beagle is another highlight, and is precious and so well behaved!
I would highly recommend Kamer O1, as a fantasic value as well.

My friend and I stayed for two nights at Kamer 01 - from Friday to Sunday. We had the red room at the 2nd floor. The whole cityhouse is absolutely charming and in an excellent condition. We loved the mix of the old cityhouse with very modern and trendy interior. The room was large, had a big doublebed, a very nice bathroom, sofa with coffeetable, tv and a desk with PC - what else could one ask for. The kitchen on the first floor, where we had our breakfast each morning, was really nice and cozy. We were free to have coffee, beverages, beers and wine, and a selection of food. The guys (and the dog) were extremely friendly and we enjoyed being with them. If we go to AMS again, we will return to Kamer 01. Jane and Anne, Denmark.

We stayed in Kamer01 for 8 nights. It's wonderful in every way and I never want to stay anywhere else in Amsterdam. We stayed in the Red Room and it is beautiful and charming and completely comfortable. The location of this B&B is fantastic, you're in the heart of Amsterdam, just steps away from the tram if you want it. You're within a few minutes walk of so many restaurants, bars and sightseeing opportunities it's impossible to list them. The Anne Frank house is about a 20-minute walk.

The beautiful breakfast room overlooks a canal. The week we were there, it was overcast and rainy almost all the time but the view was still lovely. Wolter and Peter serve a delicious breakfast of warm rolls and croissants, a variety of cheeses and meats, fresh fruit, fresh squeezed juice, coffee, yogurt...we really got spoiled and miss those great meals terribly, now that we're home!

It's really Wolter and Peter who make this place so special. They're both charming and funny and gracious and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They took so many extra steps to make our stay perfect, like printing out vouchers for a tour, and our boarding passes for our outbound flight, getting a cab to take us to the airport at a great price, lending us an ironing board and even the use of their washer.

TripAdvisor really needs an extra category for a place like this.
